  1. I would say something to the effect that "it seemed that Jesus has play a significant role in your life and you want the benefit that you experienced to be shared with everyone." This is just to start, to make a connection. Then if appropriate, make a spiritual assessment given spirituality is part of nursing scope of practice. Find out his view of being a Christian and health care intervention (are they in conflict, are they compatible, ... etc"). Also find out him being a Christian, him being a "temple of God", how does he take care of his physical and emotional health, his view of it and so on. What I am saying is, turn it into an opportunity to do some pretty good nursing assessment.
  2. Why don't you look into getting a MSN in Clinical Nurse Leader as part if the course work involves the business side of running a nursing organization?
  3. The ability to be more than just listen, but to understand. The ability to form connections quick. The ability to stay calm. The ability to have great team work. The ability to stay neutral and not be judgmental. The ability to switch fast (e.g. Interacting with someone who is super depressed and the next minute you are interacting with someone who is manic). The ability to see the person behind the illness that s/he is suffering from. The ability to take verbal diarrhea.
  4. Yes, rough. But doable. You literally can't work at all. There won't be enough time. Also you won't have time to reflect what you learned.
  5. Like other posts mentioned already, you might want some inpatient experience first as that will give you a good foundation. You'll learn stuff you won't learn in school which can apply to outpatient.
  6. Maybe the question is are you stable enough to be a nurse, does not matter what kind? If yes, then the next question is would working with pts who are coping with depression and/or psychosis trigger you? By trigger, I means things like causing you to freeze, unable to focus, flashbacks...?
  7. My colleagues who have CNL are floor nurses. Sometimes they are charge nurses. They are involve and/or lead in other committees and task groups that will have a direct impact on how the floor is run. Participate in scheduling, staffing, budgeting, interviewing... Etc.Of course, there are potentially management type of nursing positions they qualify for if that is an interests.
  8. On top of my head: John Hopkins, UCSF, Washington ...etc
  9. Maybe consider becoming a nursing attorney given you have a leal background.
  10. Couldn't you pick projects that are related to mental health during your MSN? I know of a handful of my nursing colleagues who do have a CNL. But they all already are working in mental health already, so I don't know if that would make a difference.
  11. RN has a LOT more paperwork. More responsibility also. In terms of career advancement, RN has more flexibility.
  12. Since they are "old" pick their brains for their experience. Keep wat helps and ignore what des not
  13. Organic chem. what helped was that I had a great teacher.
