Well i just started my last semester of clinicals. I can day this, that my clinical group is paired up on the same floor not the same patients. I however am all by myself. At first I was a bit apprehensive about it however, now I enjoy it. Not having any other students on my floor made me push myself. My instructor told me this week 4 weeks in that she did it on purpose. She said she read my previous evals from past semesters and thought i could handle it. She also had me take more patients then other students. I not only exceeded her expectations but really I proved to myself that i am capable and competent. It is such a good feeling! I am not the nervous student I once was. I am a team player. I help the Cna's and other nurses whenever i can. I just know that i dont need the security blanket anymore! :) try it solo! You will be amazed at what you are truly capable of!

Im so sorry for your loss. I can relate...I lost my mother and my father very tragically. You do need to allow yourself time to grieve. Although i never got over the loss it will get easier. Think to yourself what your mom would want you to do. By no means going part time is a failure! Im glad you have that option. Don't give up! Wether it takes you 1year or 2 doesn't matter. Think about your health. Just like it takes time for a patient to heal from surgery same goes for losing a loved. You cant expect yourself to be able to concentrate in school and go through the grieving process with such a heavy load on your shoulders. Go part time and maybe pick up full time when you have dealt with your feelings. Only you can decide. Again what would your mom want. She was and is your cheerleader! So dont give up! What has got me through is i spend every sunday with her. Thats our family day. You have to make a plan and give yourself a day off to breathe and enjoy life

I am in level 4 at acc. The program itself is not just 8-5. Clinical times vary for example sometimes 12-14 hour days 6:30am-7:30pm and other times are 2 days a week 8 hour day 6:30-3:30, 12-7:30. I have a 7 year old and am a single mom. The sacrifice is so worth it! She has been a trooper. All though i have missed important things, This is only temporary. She is so proud of me :) she is counting down the days till i graduate in december. I study 6 days a week to keep my gpa up. Clinical hw can be very time consuming as well. You will be an example to your children. Breastfeeding no worries they are very understanding.

What about teaching patient care of incision, teaching s&s of infection, when to call doctor, nutritional education to aide healing, teaching cough and deep breath using is, splinting...?

This is encouraging to hear! Thank you! I would work in post partum to get my foot in the door. I like PP but it bores me. I love L&D! I like to think on my feet and love the rush of slow one minute and crazy the next. I understand it isnt all rainbows, however I like how everyday is different

Story of my life is i get really complex questions right! I get simple basic questions wrong! I got all Efm questions right, as well as pp assess and newborn assess, but basic questions like G&P i got wrong. I think its how the questions are worded? The question didnt out right say woman was pregers just that she was in office and G&p tpal were.... Got it wrong because she was pregnant in office. I get prioritizing questions right I am usually really good with those. One question said pick the statement that is correct about placenta and umbilical cord : 5 Choices- i narrowed down to: umbilical cord has two arteries and one vein, or placenta uses 3 types of diffusion? I picked umbilical cord answer because placenta uses 4 types of diffusion according to our maternal nursing book

Just finished my pedi rotation today!! :-) advice make a little cheat sheet for normal vitals tape on back of your id. Always verify vitals with primary nurse before documenting! Say you get some crazy reading of 50 resps you wanna recheck and verify with rn. Always say in documentation verified vitals with primary nurse! This covers your butt. When doing bp on small children legs work better and make sure you hold leg straight otherwise you get error. Cluster care, always calculate max dose range for every med given based on mg/kg/day dont go to professor until you have wrote this out and question anything that is over max dose. Try to find another source via hospital intranet to prove safe dose otherwise call pharm. Hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy the learning experience.
