MD was angry I questioned him.
Great job!! Nurses like you save lives. Nurses are the front line in medicine and all nurses know that we are literally the difference between good or bad outcomes. Kudos for not being intimidated by the MD.

Religious accommodation means no Saturdays....ever?
As religious nurse I also could not work Saturdays. However I ended up working every Sunday of the month.Even though I did my weekends they're still were some nurses who did resent the fact that I do not do any Saturdays even though I did my share of weekends. I understand the op frustration but as long as that nurse was open in her interview period. She should just let it go and speak to the management about the staffing issues w/o bringing up this nurse. When I went to crna school this issue came up again when I had to take call on weekends. While the PD did not make any special accommodation I was able to switch my Saturdays and Friday night's calls with some of my understanding classmates. But let me tell you when that call schedule came out I literally would break out in a cold sweat and would not calm down until I was able to switch my call. I think it is important to note that if an orthodox Jew was driving his car and sundown came he would lock his car and walk to where ever they had to go, Orthodox Jews are that committed to keeping the Sabbath. I acknowledge that this can be a stressful situation for everyone involved. But if there honest open communication these issues really can be resolved to (almost) everyone satisfaction.

Chem requirements for admission
I went to school in ct and that 1st chem class was pretty tough. I personally would not take any shortcuts and take all the classes. The first semester of crna school is pretty stressful and you can some what alleviate that stress by having a strong foundation in chemistry. Good Luck!!

Why Do Nurses Quit?
I totally agree with you. Part of the stress of being a new nurse is prioritizing what to do first. Perhaps this new grad felt it was more important to give another patients there scheduled meds and felt the IV could wait. I am not saying that what she /he did was right, but one thing I know is humiliating someone never helps. It just builds resentment which leads to new grads leaving( which by the way was the point of this article). At my first job at a busy telemetry unit, they hired 9 new grads and all quit by the end of the first year. A common theme for the reason why they quit was due to some sort of public humiliation that they endured from some of the staff. So yes I understand that no one likes bring up NETY again and again, but that is a real reason why new grads leave their 1st job. So if we want to retain our new grads we have to find a better way of treating/educating them.

Why Do Nurses Quit?
""If I took report and this was the situation you'd bet I would say something very directly to the nurse who was sooooo busy. We could debate this all day long I suppose but I still think it's a poor example of an unfriendly environment." I think openly and loudly humiliating someone and insinuating that a newer nurse, who is obviously going to be weaker in terms of time management, was "soooo" busy is part of the issue. Newer nurses are slower, they don't know all of the nuances of a unit quite yet, and when they are purposefully humiliated in front of everyone it can do enough damage that they feel targeted and move on to something else. The post is about why nurses quit, specifically new graduates. The quote was from a new graduate. You can't get any more authentic than that, whether it be your personal experience or not." I totally agree with you. Part of the stress of being a new nurse is prioritizing what to do first. Why are Nurses and CNAs so mean/rude
Um not really around 90% of the nurses and cna's I worked with are the most compassionate people I know. Nurses and techs are overworked underpaid and unrecognized posts like this just put the nursing profession in a bad light. I think it is were you work as opposed to the nursing profession ad a whole.

Very, Very Bad Week
Hi, I am so sorry for your loss. When I was a student in an accelerated program, my wife delivered a stillborn baby at 39 week. There were no complications what so ever and there were no warning signs to why this happened. It was crazy hard to get up and return to school the following days (especially since I was in midst of my OB rotation). But life went on and although time does not heal all wounds, it does help. Goodluck to you!!

Nursing school too hard on purpose?
I can say from my experience that not all schools are like that. My schooling was great. My professors were on top of us and expected a lot from but they were very supportive. Also not all nurses don't give students the time of day, In my unit we welcome students and we def don't try to intimidate or ignore them. You obviously were in a really rough school that seemed to be over the top, but you should not make such general negative statement about all nursing programs solely based on your experience.

Ever have the spike come out from a hanging bag of blood?
I once had got the wrong tubing for blood, I realized that before I hung the blood, so I got the right type of tubing and somehow between unspiking the old (but not used) tubing like 20 cc of blood poured. It looked like a blood bath, all over the IV pump, pole, floor and tubing. Of course our 70year old GI Dr. decided to round at that moment followed by our 75 year old school cardiologist, They both looked at me like i was nuts mopping up blood, while explaining to them that this blood was unrelated to the GI bleed that the GI Doc was consulted for. Well all well that ends well, my supervisor just laughed other nurses came and helped me clean up and the pt also thought the whole situation was funny. ( however both of those Doctors still kinda of look at me with a wary eye)
