  1. Me too! So excited! I am starting with the Bridge class in January! yay us.
  2. What a Breathe of fresh air! lol Some day I hope to be like all of you truly loving my job! sigh someday.
  3. This is my fear! I have been at this job for about 6 months now, I am terribly bored and don't feel I have learned anything that will carry any weight in another field. I am planning on trying to get on at Texoma medical Center in Denison because the Metroplex has not been kind to me when it comes to interviews.
  4. I see what you mean RED. maybe for others like Baylor and THR, I know their GN positions are only open for s short window. I dont know if Parkland closes there GN nurse applications at a certain time. Who knows maybe she just didnt like me???
  5. Oh thanks for the information! I wasn't aware that if they offer you a position you pretty much have to take it! Still I think the experience would be beyond beneficial even if I am not offered a position.
  6. Hi all! I graduate in just a few days! I have been searching for a job, and so far the only lead is with a county MHMR. The position is brand new, the program was created to take the pressure off of local ERs. It will be a clinic setting, and will involve assessments, possibly drawing lab work, and giving referrals. I have a strong mental health background. But you hear all the time that a new nurse needs a year of med-surg and then you can go anywhere! So I am afraid if my first job is in Mental health I will be limited as to what positions I can get later. Do you think this is true or just an irrational fear?
  7. Graduation is in 27 days and I need a job! I have applied to several HCA internships all over the DFW area. Has anyone else applied? Have you heard anything? What are the internships like? Any and all information would be helpful! I have applied to Denton Regional, Plano Medical Center, and Medical City dallas. Thanks!
  8. I went to a job fair where a Parkland recruiter was there. I thought it would be good to put a face with my application you know network! The lady from Parkland was not very friendly and said WAIT till after I had passed the NCLEX to apply. They have so many applicants, and dont want to risk hiring someone who doesnt pass the NCLEX. The whole interaction was a bit discouraging. At the same fair a mental health organization was there and offered me a position. so I may go that route, and try to get acute care experience later. Good luck to everyone!
  9. I heard from a lady at Parkland that its best to apply to thier GN positions once you have passed boards. she basically made it seem like they don't even look at apps for those who havent passed yet!!
  10. I currently attend the regular BSN program, after 2 semesters with 2 semesters left I owe over 5,000 dollars and can not continue the program until that money is paid off. Thus I have to take a semester off work pay it and then possibly come back. it is a great school great faculty and staff great education. I truly love it here but it is very expensive the Finiacial aid department is Rude. They do give some scholarships but with tuition this high you really have to have outside non government loans. i will get my BSN i do not know if it will be from here but I will get it. Oklahoma City University is a great school but it is a very expensive school. with room and board THEY ESTIMATE cost AT about 50,000 a year. A YEAR! Nurses make good money but not that good.
