  1. I felt the exact same way. It took a while for me to feel comfortable! It's a good trait to have to be worried and scared... those are the nurses who focus on the important details... you'll start to get the groove... ask your manager for a longer orientation period. It took me 3 years, but I'm finally feeling comfortable. There will always be those days that make you question why you did this to yourself... but then there are those that make you realize that there isn't anything else you'd rather do! Good luck and keep your head up
  2. I've always been told that waitresses make good nurses! They are good at prioritizing, juggling multiple tables "patients" and make sure their customers needs are being met!
  3. Just a little info on the pharmacy thing. I became a pharmacy tech while in nursing school. mainly because I thought it would help me in my career, but also to see what all the fuss was about between nursing and pharmacy. A lot of times we arent aware that the pyxis is empty because the count could be off (nursing or pharmacy's fault) or we are out of the med or are literally about to bring it up as you call. But working in the pharmacy with some lazy techs I know that sometimes people just dont do their job! Just as an FYI.
  4. The way I look at it... Experience is experience. You need to have experience somewhere to get a job in the future. If it comes down to it in an interview just explain that it was a great experience. You got to work in an area and help the under-served. I am a new grad too and I am in the same boat. Do I take the job or pass in hopes that something better comes along. As a new grad your choices are limited without experience, so it's best to get the experience while its in front of you.
  5. Sorry iPhone autocorrected a lot of my post!! Grr ?
  6. I have no choice. I've worked 25+ hours a week to pay for nursing school and my bills. It's a struggle and I but off more than I could chew during a couple semesters. Just so what you think you can so. Many jobs work well with students schedules and can help you by giving you less or more hours. My best advice is to look ahead at your schedule and request off work or request less hours on weeks you have a test coming up or a busy week. That way you aren't stressed trying to do it all.
