  1. I finally landed a hosp rn job 22miles away, 30 min drive
  2. I'm at st Francis hosp in Wilmington
  3. I'm at st Francis Er internship in Wilmington. I interviewed for Christiana er residency program too but didn't get that job.
  4. Hello. I'm in my 3rd week of my 4 month orientation. I'm in the classroom for 2 days and I rotate to various department for the other 3 days to shadow the nurses. I will be with my ED preceptor starting in about a month and that's where I suspect the stress will start, lol
  5. I just completed the achieve program at LaSalle 2012. LaSalle is a great school. I was worried like you too. I already had a bachelors in business with a GPA of 2.7 from 1999. I was concerned that they wouldnt accept me.I dont think they were concerned with my GPA because I had to take a boatload of other pre-reqs since my background was in business not science. I think what helped me was that I had A's in all my science pre-reqs and the other 10 classes as well. I know you are applying for the MSN, so hopefully they will see that you matured as a student and received higher grades as you progressed.
  6. Congrats on passing boards. I also applied to this program and havent heard anything. I'm thankful to say I am now employed in a new grad er program. I will still let you know if I'm contacted.
  7. Hi. Congrats. I was told to just buy blue scrubs. I think I remember being told eventually we will get a stipend. The first day is business casual.
  8. Excited and biting my nails at the same time. One more week before orientation
  9. How's the new job going. CCS called me for an interview, but I declined it because I was forturnate to land a ER job.
  10. I was offered a position like that too from an agency. I dont think they care who they hire, while I was waiting to be interviewed, the receptionist had me filling out paperwork as if i was hired already(w4 info, emergency contact, etc), that was red flag #1, so i go to the interview, only it wasnt an interview, he was asking me what job i would like to wo work(rf#2), he offered me school nurse position, i said do you offer training bc im a fish out of water, he said they dont offer training, and ran down the typical things kids come to the nurse for, tummy ache, cramps, headache and even said a couple of kids need tube feeding . I told him i dont feel comfortable and this is putting my license on the line. To make matters even worst, the agency set it up so I'm considered a private contractor, meaning that if something bad happen they could sue me not them. I said thanks but no thanks. That was in Oct 2012(i grad may 2012). So i went back to the drawing board and landed a nurse residency job in the ER, and i start next month. So if I was you, i wouldnt take this job and be very careful of agencies that just throw you to the wolves. You worked very hard for your license and you dont want to lose it and you said its 2 hours away, this job isnt worth it. You have to ask your self what happens if something really serious happens and u will be like a deer caught in the head lights. Trust me i thought long and hard about that job, and something better came down the line.
  11. I dont have anything to comment on. but i want to see the responses you rcv. I start an ER new grad position Feb 10 and I could end up with this same shift
  12. Thanks everyone for responding to my initial post. I will try to take your advice [COLOR=#003366]♪♫ in my ♥ and not engage in negative self talk. I too feel like I'm more book smarts too [COLOR=#003366]bokerglory . I start Feb 10. [COLOR=#003366]Racer15 dont feel bad that you are looking things up, bc thats just means you are taking initative and your willingness to learn and I know I will be doing the samething as well. I know nothing about IV's or mixing drugs, so u r already head of me. I just order the pocket guide, thanks .
  13. Thank you for responding. Those classes will be incorporated in my orientation. I have one book so far, Emergency nursing by incredibly easy. I will buy the CEN review book.
  14. Hi. Im starting this topic for any new grads or new to the ER. I think it will be good to come here to compare notes, encourage, vent and support each. I myself, am so nervous and excited at the same time. Will I be a good nurse, will I learn quickly, will I easily pickup a good technique to start IV"s or blood draws. I'm in count down mode to start my new career, 22 days. My orientation will be 4 months
  15. Hi..Im starting ER new grad position next month..if its ok I will PM u some???
  16. If you are willing to travel, Maryland hospitals are hiring lots of nurses with no experience, I just interviewed with St Agnes last week but I was lucky enough to just land a new grad position in my hometown. I hv no hospital experience or hookups. I showed my personality and that's honestly how I think I got the job. It was a gpa requirement, I had a 3.7. I hv my bsn too
  17. Thanks for the info. I just cleared my inbox.
  18. Hi. I know its hard, but you have to be patient. I grad with a BSN/3.7gpa and i was getting shot down too. It took me 6 months to land a new grad position. My phone only started ringing 8weeks ago. I was granted 2 new res programs at 2 diff hospital. I was turned down for the first job and then a month later I landed a job. The problem I was starting to run into, was that some programs had the nerve to tell me that I aged out the new grad programs and that they dont hire anyone unless they r within the 6 months period of graduating or graduated 6 months earlier. One site, Hershey hospital said if you graduated prior to summer 2012, need not apply. I wish you the best of luck and keep up the good work
  19. I'm someone who can juggle it all. I went to nursing school while I still worked full time and still grad with a 3.7 from a top school, so I can still give the er 110%. My current job I landed with my first marketing degree, so it has nothing to do with nursing. I really want this er job, so my only issue is to quit my full time job now or do it in. 3 months with a buyout bonus. My future is in nursing, I make more in my current job but my life dream is to be an er nurse, and that's what I'll be
  20. Thank you for responding. I definitely will be a sponge and always rewmember to ask why?
  21. My current job is open 7 days a week, so I was going to schedule it around my ER schedule, this schedule will only work if I'm on 3 12's, come the 2nd month of training , I'm assuming the first month might b day shift m - f, , the more I think about this isn't going to work
  22. I was hired for the ED dept new grad position. No med/surg positions available unless experience. I really want ER, I will rough it out till may. Thanks for responding
  23. Hi group. Am i fooling, myself to think i can continue to keep my current job of 13years and a new grad er position. I was advised that if i quit now, i walk away with nothing, if i wait to may i can leave with a buyout pkg(enough 2 pay 2 years of college tutition for my child). Im so torn, should i just walk away or try to balance it, and if i cant cope then just quit my old job? Decision, decision, decision. I do know no matter what I am keeping the ER job.
