I was invited to the nursing honors society and everyone says it's a big deal to join. I've even heard that some nurses have been turned away from graduate school (with fantastic GPAs) because they weren't a member... I do plan on going to graduate school at some point, but is this really necessary?

Mayah, my hubby bought me some Nikes for Christmas, but they aren't comfortable enough. I think at least these are more for looks, lol

I took a nursing success skills course last semester and it really helped me with better study habits and being more organized. I can't explain everything here but I will tell you a few. For a single suject, converge class notes and notes that you take on your own so you don't have a lot of repeat information. rewriting it to converge it will help you remember it and it organizes your notes neatly. Also, only write your notes on one side of the paper so that later on when you're studying you don't need to continuously flip the paper over to find information. Writing it only on the front will keep the information all right in front of you. This is a little off topic but I wanted to add this in becuase it was helpful to me. When studying on your own, read the major titles and subtitles to get an idea of what you should be learning about in the section. look at diagrams and read the information under them. Read the sections and then re read them, highlighting the pertinent information. These are the things you would copy down and add to notes from class. It is time consuming but after I did it, I found it to be very helpful!

A&P1 is a lot of memorization of bones and such. It's really not too bad but I picked up "Pocket Anatomy and Physiology" by Shirley Jones. It has a section for bones, muscles, the nervous system, the brain the heart and so on. Great little pocket book! I highlighted what we were studying at the time and when we moved on, I washed it off and started highlighting the new information we were to learn. It was really helpful - so much so, I still have it! It was also helpful in A&P2 but that class was much harder than the first. Make sure you don't take it hybrid!

Great topic to start! I would love to find people who may be going to school with me. Olivia, I bought this book off of Amazon, it's called "5 TEAS practice tests" by Mcgrall Hill. It has five tests in it to practice. Also, I had to brush up on my grammar and so on and I used this website English Worksheets VERY helpful if it's been a while. I hope to attend The University of Central Florida, Cocoa, in January. Went for the interview on Tuesday and I should find out tomorrow if I actually got in.

I hit up the math lab like crazy and also used Khan's academy (online website). Very helpful!

If you quit no, you've wasted more than money; you've wasted much of your time even prearing to get IN to the nursing school. Just becuase you're in an undesirable situation right now doesn't mean it's going to stay that way. I say stick with it and learn what you can.

If you take all those classes in the same semester, make sure you have great teachers. I am in statistics and chem right now and it takes some work! A lot of math in both classes, but really if you have good teachers and devote the time, you should be alright. A&P II wasn't hard but required a lot of time dedicated to studying. I'm not sure about the English... is that like communications? That class requires a lot of writing (how much depends on the teacher) but again, if you get a good teacher it isn't bad. I think taking all at once is doable. Nursing school will be a lot tougher so I guess it's better to test yourself now!

Your right... I need job security and either way I am going to have to sacrifice. maybe it's better to go for the higher degree now if I can and take less time in the long run. Thank you all for your input. It is very much appreciated :)

That's great! What is your name? I know a girl who was in my anatomy class that got in as well so if I go there maybe we can all study together! UCF has two cuts and I made the first one but now I have to go for an interview to see if they like me.

I can do the BSN online??? Is that an additional two years or how much extra? The community college I'm going to is switching to a university. Their ASN is 5 semesters and then it's an extra semester after that for the BSN, so not much of a difference when compared to the university that offered me a position. Here where I live they hire ASN's but in Orlando they will only hire BSN. I know I'm definitely going to continue my education, I guess it's just a preference of how and where. I'm definitely willing to relocate to get better pay but I'm sure I'll be happy with what I get since I have nothing now Ruby, I'm sorry to hear that their father will be away so much. Bless your husband for serving and bless you and your family for standing by him :) I know how you feel about daycare because I feel the same way. I don't like my son having to be with anyone else (even family) almost ALL day unless he's in school.

Ruby, I also had a friend in the community college program and they hired her as a nurse tech after her first semester. If she passes the NCLEX in a few weeks they are hiring her on. It's just a really hard decision because my son is so young... he'll end up being with my mother in law ALL the time if I do the BSN right now (which is really the best option) and I'm not ok with that.

Thank you all! I guess I just thought it would be more pay but having more job opportunity is well worth it. llg, I'm not worried about immediate cash in my pocket. As of right now I have no job and am going to school FT so even just having the ASN is great for me. I wont be struggling with bills and I'll have extra money. The thing is that I was offered a position in the nursing program at the community college I go to now and also one at a university. At the community college I'll get my AS degree and it's three days a week. The university is the BSN program but it's 5 days a week 8-5. I'm trying to look at the pros and cons of both because I have a son and a husband who is working and going to school as well. Either way I will go for my BSN. My final goal is a Masters.

I have a friend who got her BSN over a year ago and she told me she only makes .25 more than the nurses with an ASN. Is this really the difference? I hardly see how going to school for two extra years will only get you a quarter more an hour.

Hello All, I was just accepted to two schools. I was hoping that someone could help me out with the schedules for each because this will determine which school I go to. The First is Brevard Community College in Palm Bay for the ASN degree. The second is UCF Cocoa Campus, for the BSN. I keep hearing conflicting schedules for this one but for the most part I'm hearing M-F: 8-5. Also, if you went to either of these schools, how was the program? How are the teachers? Any help is appreciated.
