  1. Hi, Getting kinda sick of ppv casemanagement d/t excessive charting/follow up. It seems the pts are complex with numerous phone calls/documentation. Which, to me questioning if this is worth it. A pt fell yest, had to call office, md, pt then documentation, without a dime to me. Also, another pt hospitalized, had to do transfer oasis with no pay. Last week had to do d/c oasis on pt whom refused visit. Office does not pay paper time and states all care and documentation is the visit rate. Just wondering if other agencies pay for charting without visits or excessive time spent on pt care?
  2. I agree, I dont care if they never give me another pt again, i wont risk my life so they can make there money. I look at it this way, Im per diem, I get no benefits, haven't had a raise in 3 years. This is the only thing I ask of them in return for quality care for there pts. Stay safe!
  3. Hi, When you refuse a pt just make sure you report off to a supervisor or another nurse so you aren't accused of abandonment. My comfort level is 12-14 pts. Sounds like there dumping wayyyy to much responsibility on you. You have to learn to stick up for yourself and say no in HH or they'll take advantage of you.
  4. If you & your husband have concerns regarding your safety in certain areas I wouldnt think twice about refusing the assignment especially if there was no escort. I have refused assignments before, but they do get upset and you may not get as many referrals from your agency. That being said, In light of all the recent shootings and my location in Chicago, I'm really rethinking if HH is for me!
  5. This is the bad part of hh. Try to claim an attempted visit to at least get gas money in the future. If pts screw with my time like that I usually try to discharge or give away the assignment.
  6. I once had a nun in home health whom shall I say, got her moneys worth out of me doing extras. I would take out her garbage, get her mail etc.. but one day she asked me to water her plants. One was hanging from a ceiling over her makeshift Alter. There I was on a chair leaning way over to try to get to the plant, when you know it I lost my balance and fell. Lordy Lordy I fell right on the Jesus statue! But didn't break it Thank God! Being Catholic I always laugh at the thought and say there's no one as manipulative as a cute old nun.
  7. You should try home health. Today I took out a pts dog for her and another I screwed in a new light bulb. I don't mind, especially if they may hurt themselves doing these things!!
  8. I would chart refused wound care. This would also mean non-compliance and be cause for discharge.
  9. Most of my pts want to be seen between 11am-2pm. Lots of unpaid wasted time scheduling.
  10. I agree with everything she said. The paperwork is overwhelming and cuts deeply into your home life. I've been charting nightly till 7-8pm and I'm part time. HH is a whole different animal, usually you love it or hate it.
  11. Very frustrating! Whats worse is when you go to the home as scheduled, and there not there! Wish I could be of some help, but its one of the negatives of working HH. Sue
  12. There still on paper, so no email. I work for another agency on computer and sent 2 emails, and 2 voicemails and still no one put a discharge oasis in the computer for me starting last fri, Finally I got another sup to do it late yest. Just saying, I have enough to remember...
  13. Also, if freq is 2xw, you could make it thurs, sat this week and still be in compliance?
  14. I think you should expect support from your office regarding correct info and paperwork. I also have to call 2-3x for such things as lab results, supplies and no one seems to get it right. I am polite, but get your act together. Staff is getting paid d/t the hard work of hh rns and the support should be there as in any business office. I'm not asking you to make me coffee or call my pts. Just to do your job. Oh and my agency has quit faxing me my pts labs, I have to go in and get it using 5 bucks worth of gas. Thanks, bet they wouldn't do that.
  15. Im in the midwest, and when theres a snowstorm, I call my pt to check on them, and if there ok I will visit them the next day. Most of them are worried sick about you if you go out in the storm anyway. Document you contacted them or family and write a missed visit. Your HH should have a triage # assigned to each pt also. They should be involved now and not dumping the responsibility on you like many agencies do. Please stay safe, its scary enough driving in traffic on a good day here in Chicago!!
