Finally decided to quit nursing
I would love to never have to be a bedside nurse again. I have an ASN only and have worked as a Staff RN on a med/sug/tele floor for 2.5 years. I quit this job a year ago because I had to move to another state because of my husbands work. I didn't get a job there because once I wasn't working in a hospital, I couldn't bring myself to go back to one. I didn't enjoy the job for several reasons, many have already been explained in this thread. I want to use my nursing degree because I am still in debt with student loans and feel like I shouldn't increase this debt to get a BSN. I know there are many positions for RNs away from the bedside, some of which have been mentioned in this thread. Many of them require a BSN, as well as, prior experience. I have applied to many positions that state prior experience or BSN preferred instead of required, but I've had no luck. It's time for me to do some type of work, I just can't figure out what that should be.

Can a home health nurse choose which neighborhood he/she sees patients in?
Yes, that baby needs and deserves care, but it's up to the individual nurse whether she/he is willing to put her/his safety on the line to provide that care.

Can a home health nurse choose which neighborhood he/she sees patients in?
Thanks, everyone, for the replies. I have decided not to apply as a HH nurse here. I don't want to be turning down patients that need care because my husband doesn't want me in a neighborhood and I don't want my husband to worry about me. Most importantly, I don't want to be in danger. The companies around here don't seem to provide escorts or body guards. Maybe I can be a HH nurse someday when we move away.

Remote, Nationwide, Flexible, etc
Thanks so much for answering. I appreciate your input. I've been applying for some of the companies that you put on a previous post in this thread. I'm going to try it out and see if enjoy the health screenings. Thanks again!

Remote, Nationwide, Flexible, etc
I have a question for adio. I was wondering why you work at a clinic now instead of for these other companies as a health screener? I have worked at a hospital for 2 1/2 years and don't like it. I've been looking into doing these health screenings. It seems flexible and fun to me. I don't care if I lose my skills and I don't need to make as much money as I do at the hospital. Was there just not enough work for you? I was just wondering if you don't mind answering. Also, do you like working at the clinic? How did you go about getting that kind of job. Thanks.

Can a home health nurse choose which neighborhood he/she sees patients in?
I have recently moved to a new state and am looking for a job. I have worked as a staff nurse on a med/surg/tele hospital floor for 2.5 years. I really think home health nursing is what I want to do, if I can find the right company. My husband says he will not allow me to go to patient's houses in certain neighborhoods in town (he grew up here) because of the danger I may be in. Before I apply to any hh companies, I was wondering if an employee can turn down any patient because of the location of their home?
