Can't even get classes.
I know what you mean, I called around to every school imaginable when I was searching. I have heard some crazy horror stories from some of my friends where they had to go to 3 to 5 different schools. If only the people creating all these programs could work together and put themselves in our shoes for a moment, then I think they might consider changing the system! I finally decided on Unitek College in Fremont Ca, because they offer the pre req's online for the lvn to rn. There was no way I was about to go all over the place trying to get pre req's, hoping I would be completed in enough time. To much stress and time. After reading over all the posts, I think there is a lot of great advice here for you especially by willowita. If you took the advice of showing up to class on the first day that would really get you in the door and your instructor might like the drive you have. Hang in there. E-Mailing the professor would be good to, that way you can get in front of him, shows them just how much you want to be in his class.

I am NOT getting MATH!
Either am I, maybe we can study together. Too bad this site doesn't offer something like a group study time where we could get together and discuss certain questions we have with each other, but maybe that is what the forums are for!

Trying to find a job while in school full time?
I’m sure with the holiday season approaching there will be many places looking to fill just about any spot, so look around and call stores to see if they need any help during your off hours of school. Talk with your teacher and see if they have anything you might be able to do. What about Career Services, does your school have a center and do they know of anything? Maybe even try to sell AVON, bring your books into class, ask the other students if they want to buy anything. This could give you a little extra money. A receptionist job might be something you can do if you find a place that needs to fill the specific hours you are requesting. If all else fails, just wait until November when you mentioned you would be able to do the nurse aid. Remember you still need time to study but a few hours here and there will add money in the bank.

Rough start.. Study tecniques?
I agree with Saysfaa, index cards are the best! At times, I write so much on them when it comes down to remembering something on the test, sometimes i can recite all the info that was on that specific card. Don't ask my how I do it, I have no idea but it works! When I realized I was able to remember what the whole card said, I started to number the cards and associated that specific item with the number. Strange I know but it works. I haven't tried color coding them, I wonder if that would work with my memory. Can anyone else do this? If I'm the only one, I'm sure someone is going to want to study my brain someday!

Military spouse desiring to go to a Nursing School
I envy you with the benefits you'll receive because the more help the better but it is well deserved, please thank your husband for his service. I don't understand why the private school wouldn't accept you, because you don't have any nursing yet? Isn't that why you are going to school to get nursing? Can you elaborate, I'm really confused? There are many areas of nursing, what are you thinking about? I'm going to Unitek College, they don't have a wait list.

Lpn route or RN route?
If you read my post I was just saying that you can do the general education courses at the same place you plan to enroll in, so why bother going to 2 different schools when you can do it all under the same school.

Lpn route or RN route?
:nono:Don't start at a community college; I almost made the same decision. Look for a college that offers online gen. ed. classes. I was about to take my general education at a community college until I talked with Unitek College and they offer the general education courses to you online if you are enrolling in their rn course. I was happy to see I didn't have to deal with more than 1 school because that would just be more stress on me. And look for a program that doesn't have a wait list where you can get in as soon as you finish up your pre req's. Good luck to you!

Nursing School Blues??
Just relax and think about what you are doing this all for. I get sad at times then I bounce back, it happens to all of us. Now wrap your arms around yourself and that is a hug from all of us here at the forum to you!

Nursing at Disneyland
My sister's friend applied there but ended up getting a job at a local doctors office instead. We were all routing for her hoping she could get us some free tickets because embarrassing as it may sound I've never been to disney world .

Giving up on California
Did you try and ask your school for any help? They might know a few places that are hiring that may not be leaked to the general public. Try that before you move.

Sacramento Resident Wanting to Become RN
I go to Unitek College and my sister graduated from their a few years ago. They don’t have a wait list and I think they may offer some type of benefits for you since you were in the army. They are a good group, and instructors are very helpful.

How Do I get a Camp job for next summer?
I was talking about this the other day with someone. It sounds like so much fun. Can anyone that has done it tell me about what your days were like? Did you like it or wish you never did it?

How do nursing students get to and from school?
I drove or rode the bus and then I started carpooling! Saves money and you get to know the other people in your class.
