Going from Adult to Pediatrics
I graduated in May of 2012 and started on a med/surg floor in a small community hospital that September. It was mostly adults but we did get the occasional pediatric patient especially during RSV season. After almost a year at this hospital, I was ready to move on and so I started applying for full time or prn positions. Ended up getting a prn position in pediatrics at a bigger hospital that turned into full time 3 months later. So it's definitely possible to go from adults to peds. Most employers from what I've seen really like to hire nurses with med/surg experience.

Im a New RN stuck in limbo!
I've been going through somewhat of the same thing. I've been an RN for a little over a year now and working night shift med/surg full time and prn pediatrics. I have a history of some depression but never anxiety until this past July and within two weeks I had been to the ER twice with sky high blood pressure and heart rate. Both times I was told it was anxiety. I've been trying to manage it with some meds but hasn't been working so I started therapy last week. The only thing I can relate the anxiety to is work and night shift. I feel somewhat stuck because I can't leave my job because of bills and I can't find a day shift position to see if it would help... I'm hoping therapy will help me sort some of it out. But I just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone! And if you figure out a way to cure your anxiety, definitely let me know!

Advice Needed
So here's my problem... I have been working on a med/surg floor in a small hospital for almost a year. I was hired with the manager knowing that I eventually wanted to transfer to OB. So when my 90 days were up I went ahead and put in my transfer so that when a position came open, I would be first in line. So about three months ago a position came open, and my manager said the job was mine as soon as she found someone to replace me. Well since our med/surg floor has a high turn over rate, every time she hires someone, someone else seems to quit so my transfer keeps getting pushed to the side but they have been cross training me in OB when the census is low on m/s so that soon i can go over to OB full time. Well, yesterday I found out a new graduate was hired on the OB floor.... While I'm still in on the m/s schedule at least through November... I feel like this isn't fair. I feel like that was my position that they just gave away to someone else. Am I wrong to feel like this? I feel like I should confront management about it but I'm somewhat shy when it comes to this stuff and I have confrontation. But I feel like I keep getting pushed to the side and walked over... And I was promised that job... Any advice??

Thinking about Per Diem
I interviewed for a PRN position a few days ago for a NICU floor and if offered the position, I would get 12 weeks of orientation since I don't have prior experience in NICU which is the same amount of orientation they give full or part time. So i guess it depends on the hospital/floor.
