Army Nurse first duty station- Ft Lewis or Ft Gordon? PLEASE HELP!
I was stationed at Fort Lewis in 09/10. I loved it there. A Lot of things to do outdoors; such as natural rain forest, great fishing, cruise to Alaska. Then there is always the big city of Seattle. The downside: A LOT of RAIN and Drizzle. (part of living near a rainforest). PT is done in the rain.... Wait. your an officer. scratch that. All us enlisted know medical officers only do PT 2x a year. at testing time.

NIH New Graduate Clinical Research Nurse Internship
I work on the same compound as a NIH facility. I will see what I can find out about the internship.

What do you like about being a research nurse?
It depends on the facility you work for/at.

What do you like about being a research nurse?
I work with a Nurse Practitioner in research area. Great paying position with a lot more patient interaction than RNs and LPNs in the field (at least where I work). My advice is to apply for a research nursing position while going to school for MSN. It will allow time to get the experience to apply for the research certifications which adds to the $ potential.

Most productive way to spend 5wks before starting 1st ER job?
If you have your ASN or BSN, then in most states, obtaining your paramedic can be as simple as 2 semesters of additional schooling. Just something to add to your resume

Most productive way to spend 5wks before starting 1st ER job?
ACLS and PALS are big requirements in any critical care and Emergency Department settings. At least here in Virginia and Maryland

LPN starting pay $26.50!
I work in 65k/year position with the government as an LPN. The part that sucks, Is I am active duty so do not make the 65k my civilian LPN counterpart makes; However, I am getting out soon and have had 2 tennative job offers. 1. is returning to the exact job I am doing now at 65k (contractor) 2. getting my research certification and returning as a protocals nurse for 60k (but as DOD with benefits) Government Contracting jobs tend to pay higher than average but they are like a temp agency. once contract is up, Government may or may not renew.

How did you start out?
I currently work in medical research for the military. I got into research nursing because I was assigned at my job after completing LPN school through the military. There are those who work here as contractors who are not certified in research as well as DOD civilians. Both LPNs and RNs can obtain the certification as well as work in research field without experience (though it pays less than those with cert. and can be more competative to get the position.) Many of those who work in writing Protocals and Standard Operating Proceedures (SOPs) while the rest of us uncertified do the foot work until we become certified. There are 3 places you could try: National Cancer Institute. Comprehensive Cancer Information - National Cancer Institute USAMRIID USAMRIID Walter Reed National Medical Center WRAIR - Jobs You can check out USAJOBS - The Federal Government’s Official Jobs Site You might also look into Contracting Agencies for government. It is kind of like working for a Temp Agency to get your foot in the door and to get the research experience.
