Questions about DCN
I called Deconess, and after several calls and emails they finally returned my messages;they informed me that there isn't a August start that the next start would be in Jan 2006. That seems so far away. It still bothers me that they have my paperwork, etc and I have had to contact them and they haven't bother to call or contact me to see if I am still interested or let me know of any changes etc. I just wonder want is going on with this school since the buyout. Has things changes there? Those of you that are still going to school there are you still happy with this online program. carly

Online LPN with Deaconess College and states that do not recongn. online programs
I guess what I was trying to say and wasn't very clear about it ( sorry about that). If you are a LPN and you have choose to finsh getting your RN through DCN or Phonix online they are more likely to reconize your RN then if you had gotten your LPN and RN online together. WA is funny about that. They are very concerned about the clinical portion. They want to see a certain amount of hours devoted to clinical time in a hospital setting or site. I hope this explains what I am trying to say. There is another online program that you can get your nursing by studying and taking exams, I believe there are about 6-7 exams and then you go for a clincal evaluation at a hospital somewhere across the state sometimes miles from where you live. It takes 3-4 days. Other then a bootcamp type prep most individals don't have any clincial back ground and this is what WA state is concerned about. I am not completely sure about all my facts, getting most of my information second hand because my friend tried going this route to get her RN and after checking with WA state DON she decided to moved out of state and go to a local college. I hope I have made things a little more clear. I really wish it wasn't so hard to get a RN degree, There is such a shortage and large numbers on waiting lists at local colleges.I do understand it is important to have a good clinical background and experience before working as a RN and I think that WA state is trying to make the pratice is save.

Questions about DCN
Wondering if anyone has heard anything about the January start for Deaconess? I was one of those students who missed this last start. I haven't heard anything from Deaconess since April so I am wondering if I need to do something or if it's just a little early or if they will be contacting me? If anyone has heard anything let me know! Carly

Online LPN with Deaconess College and states that do not recongn. online programs
I was told by someone that Washington State will only take LPN's that have finished their RN online and they will reconize some online programs;it has alot to do with their clinical portion. Anyone from WA would have to call their BON to find out of Deaconess or anyother program would be accepted. If anyone has any other information regarding WA I too would like to know.

Anyone heard from Deaconess about summer start admissions?
just thought I would let everyone know know I finally was able to talk to someone from Deaconess today, wasn't very encouraging tho, was told they are still working on the approval ,which I am not sure what that details or what approval they are talking about but once they find out anything they will be contacting people, he told me otherwise figure I would start Jan of 2006. I just wonder why those of us who are waiting to be accepted aren't able to talk to a counselor we are alway directed to someone from admissions office. Is this the same procedure that everyone goes through? Oh, well Iam just glad I was able to talk to someone, even though I felt they seem a little put-off with me. I feel less stressed. Just wonder for those that haven't been accepted yet have you heard anything yet, what have they told you? Would be nice to know how many of us will be in the January 2006 start? Again congratulations and good luck to everyone !!!! Carly

Anyone heard from Deaconess about summer start admissions?
Angela I too would like to Congratulate you I am so excited for you, and Kelly thanks for the encouragement, I am not going to give up I feel to close to give up, I know that if I don't start this time around I will start in Jan 2006! I have been gathering all my information for the clinical site ( which is where I work) should I continue to work on this or wait until I get accepted in the next group or in Jan 2006 to go ahead and give this information to the clincial site? Do I need to contact Deaconess first, I forgot to ask about that when I called. I did called on Monday afternoon and they told me that Scott would be returning my call but I never heard back he must be really busy, so I tried again today about 3:30 and got a recording so I left a message. A friend was told that if she didn't get in now that she would be in the next group for sure ( jan 2006). I feel real postive about Deaconess, especially after reading Cheri's message I know I am making the right decesion for me, and even if I have to wait ( hoping I don't) until Jan it's worth it! It's good to know that there were students from the state of Washington there at the clinical evaluation, because I remember awhile back there were someone from either CA or WA wondering if either of these states accepted Deaconess graduates. So they must now because there was someone there, that is great! I will keep truck'n along , and if anyone hears anything new let me know. thanks, Carly

Anyone heard from Deaconess about summer start admissions?
Hi Kelly, What do you mean by the school is waiting for state approval? Does that mean that the online portion isn't approved by the state or the board of nursing? Do you how that would effect those that attend online out of state?I not sure if you will know this or not but will that prevent others from going there to school or using the online portion? I am alittle disappointed that I have heard nothing from the school not email a phone call or a letter, nothing that seems so strange to me. I am still going to apply in for the January start ( 2006) and pray that I get accepted in to that group. I wonder if all the changes are just normal or because of the buyout? Oh, well thanks for keeping us informed. :)

Anyone heard from Deaconess about summer start admissions?
It is Thrusday 7:26 am my time, I live in the NorthWest of the USA. I still have not heard anything. I will give it about noon and then I will try calling again onless someone calls me first. If there were so many people who want to get into this program this time around does that mean that those who didn't make it will get first on the list in 06? I wonder what the hang up is and if it has any thing to do with the buy out? If anyone hears anything let me know. Is there anyone else out here apply that is from the Northwestern states(CA, OR, WA)? Carly

Anyone heard from Deaconess about summer start admissions?
I called yesterday 4/12 in the afternoon was told that the admission office would be contacting everyone one way or the other today 4/13 either by mail. A friend call early that day and was told that they would be contacting people by phone between the the time of 9am to 7 pm so who knows, I am not sure what the hang up is or why. I am getting really discouraged though and very worried I have talked to my place of work and I have been told I can do my clinicals there as they are a teaching hospital and other nursing schools around the area have students there also so I won't have a problem finding a place to do clincals, all I need to do is get accepted, I just feel so sad right now

Anyone heard from Deaconess about summer start admissions?
I am a little worried, first they let me know they didn't get my High School Transcript so I rushed them my copy, the last copy I had, I called back last week because I read here (on this site)that several other students had already heard back said they were accepted; they told me they were still waiting on the highschool transcript so I called my highschool again and again they express mailed another copy, I email the admissions office to make sure that the address we sent it to was ok but haven't heard back yet so I am sitting here on pens and needles to say the least! If I don't start the summer I hope that means that I start inthe fall ( Jan 2006) I am wondering if the delay is because of the buyout? I hope we hear back soon

for those who are are going to start Deaconess in August of 2005, are you a little nervous with all the changes that are going on? Did they say anything to you when they let you know you had been excepted? I am alittle nervous I applied early in Febuary and was told I would know by the first week of April.Haven't checked my mail in a few days though, I am worried about all the new changes, and how they might effect us and geting our RN. Deaconess buyout......
Hi LTNurse, I wonder how this effects those of us that are hoping to start this summer or fall? Will the program be the same ( online and clinical sites) Did this just happen in the past few days? Now I a little scared that I won't be able to get my RN this way. Where can I go to read about these changes and how they might effect me? Carly

Share you Deaconess Experiences!
Dear Poe Me, Was wondering why you seem to be so angry, did you have a bad experience at Deaconess? Are you a RN now or are you trying to get into a nursing school at this tme. I personally think it is wonderful that there are many different options out there for those who are wanting to be come a RN. There is such a nursing shortage, as well as a larger shortage of really dedicated and committed RN's. Acquiring knowledge and skills can be gain by many different ways, either through a tradtional or non-tradtional school. We all learn by different methods( visual, oral, hands on,etc). although some nursing schools practice the teaching of the whole holistic individual they can't seem to related that to the students they are teaching. I appreicate that Deaconess realizes this, and are trying to offer the oprotunity to those that really want to be a nurse. We need more nurses with a heart and the desire. Do you feel this way about all online nursing schools ( EC, Phonix, etc) or just Deaconess? Carly

Deaconess
Would like to know if anyone is from Washington State and doing this school, and if so do they have any suggestion to where you could go to do your clinical hours?

Share you Deaconess Experiences!
Hi everyone I am new to this site, I think it's just wonderful to have a source like this site to draw from! I have been searching for information on the nursing school called "Deaconess" for the most part I have been able to get most of my questions answered, and have pretty much made up my mind that I am going to apply; I have a application from a friend that has already sent her paper work in and is now waiting to hear if she has been accepted. I just have a few more questions I hope someone out there can answer them for me. 1) how are you graded for your clinicals and how soon after you start the program do you do start clinicals? Does your perceptor or instructor at the hospital site grade/Evaluate you? 2) I have just started to work at a local hospital, and they have alot of nursing students from other areas( towns) doing their clinicals there, do you think I would have a hard time appoarching them about letting me do clinicals there? Would I approach the DON or HR? 3) does anyone know if you cover the same information in each quarter as you would in any other nursing classes for LPN>RN. I guess what I am trying to find out, for those that have or are doing the first quarter what subject are you studing and will be tested on, and the same question for those that have completed or are in quarter 2 right now. (what would be a example of the different subjects you might cover each quarter) 4) Can 2 student who are doing the deaconess program use the same clinical site, and can you choice the area/department and the hours you would like to do your clincals? my only worry is, does a school such as Deaconess cover the same information as if you were in some of the other nursing schools. :)
