Transition from Hospice to Hospital Case Manager
Hello allnurses, I am currently an admission nurse for a hospice company. I have been a nurse for 12 years in multitude of different specialties. I am getting burned out with my current role as an admit nurse. The territory is huge, driving 120+ miles a day. 5x week. Sometimes working 12+ hrs a day including charting. The emotional factor is also finally starting to get to me. Anyone who has worked hospice and now works as a hospital Case manager or patient care coordinator. Please enlighten me on how the transition went. I am eyeing a job at Kaiser hospital in the bay area of California. Thank you all in advance!

6 month sabbatical to Travel. Input?
Thank you for the advice. An opportunity like this only comes around once in a blue moon. Thanks for the AHA advice HouTX. I'll definitely be looking into teaching a cpr course while abroad. I hope my future managers see this sabbatical as a learning opportunity and not a giant vacation.

6 month sabbatical to Travel. Input?
@SmilingBlueeyes We have at least a year saved upon coming back. My market is competitive, but I am not going to be super particular for a specific position upon getting back. Our unemployment rate is very low @ 3.4%. I think getting a travel contract would be an easier 'IN". Have you taken sabbatical before?

6 month sabbatical to Travel. Input?
Thanks for the fast response. I'd say I am pretty well liked by staff and patients. Definitely giving at least a months notice and leaving on good terms with my director. We have a solid cushion put away for when we get back to the states, including an emergency fund. Have you done anything similar before? @RNPERDIEM

6 month sabbatical to Travel. Input?
Hello Allnurses Family! A little bit about my situation: I have been a nurse since 2008, LVN for 4 years and RN for 4 years. I have worked in Case mgmt, LTC, PCU, TELE, ICU, private duty, and currently working neuro-surg at a magnet/research hospital in northern California. I make great money and love most of my co-workers, . My girlfriend and I have decided to take a 6 month sabbatical and travel to SE Asia, New Zealand, and Bali. Neither of us will be working while out there. We have been budgeting and saving for about 8 months. We have a nice financial cushion for our trip and for some time when we get home. A colleague of mine did something similar last year and said she had some trouble getting hired upon coming back to the states. She had only been an RN for 2 years prior to her trip, but obtained a travel contract at my hospital. I am hoping with my diverse experience and current position I won't have too much trouble coming back to work in the states. I am not ruling out volunteering or teaching CPR while out there but haven't found many solid leads out there. I feel it will hinder the freedom of doing this trip in the first place. If anyone has any advice or referrals for good volunteer programs out there, please let me know. -Thank you all in advance!

Help deciding which floor !
I say hop on the PCU job to make it easier to further your career if Critical Care is something you're interested in. You can always grab a per diem job working in Peds to keep those skills up. :)

Thank you! What program did you join of you don't mind me asking? I have a friend at WGU and she likes it. It may require a few prerequisites before I can start it. I was looking into GCU as well.

ADN desperately seeking CAREER ADVICE.
Hello everyone, I am seeking some advice on my current situation. I got my LPN in 2008, and my ADN in 2012. I have worked in SNF, PCU, ICU, case mgmt and currently per diem night shift on a Neurology/Neuro-Surgical floor. I make great money at the hospital I am at. I am burning out working night shift and over the floor nursing. I wanted to go back and get my BSN-FNP eventually but not sure if its a good financial decision with the amount of student loans I would have to take out, on top of the 30k i already owe from my ADN. I like the flexibility of being per diem and making alot of money along with my own schedule, but I am not happy with the work I am doing anymore. At my hospital the NPs only makes slightly more than an RN. I understand it's a different role and not as physically demanding as working as an RN. I thought about going back to a case mgmt position but I think it will be difficult without my BSN. Should I pay off my ADN debt before diving into more student loan debt? Any advice is much appreciated for anyone that is or was in a similar situation. Thank you all in advance. -KBM

What makes a good nurse case manager?
Inori I believe that is RN Case and Disease Management. I did that telephonically for a while, but also met the pts weekly for their assessments.
