  1. There are plenty of tutorials out there. I would skip the book. Check you books website I bet they hae one with annimations. I drew a big ole cell and put what is inside the cell and what is outside the cell. In the begining you just need to memorize the stuff, but then as you continue to learn nursing it comes up and eventually you just know them all. You will need them for the rest of your career. It tough stuff and I think I got a B on the test, but now at this point being in my last semester I know them all.
  2. You are all in this together. They say nusing school is very competitive but never have that attitude. There are the people you will lean on when you have bad days. You can complain to your family or your boyfriend but they will not really understand how you feel but your peers will. There are days I don't know what I would do without them. They let me cry to them when I lost a patient. No one else understands how you feel when you lose your very first patient. They celebrate with you when you both do well on an exam. If I were you I would make friends with the older people they are at a time in their lives where they have learned to prioritize and have already formed study habbits. The young ones may not make it. I think it takes someone very special to make it through a nursing program at the age of 18 because of the amount of work it requires. I know at 18 there was no way I was mature enough or disciplined enough to go through this.
  3. Welcome to Nursing School your social life no longer exists It is one crazy ride. I am in my last semester. It is going to fly by. People gave me all kinds of advice before I started but what I remember the most is there will be days you cry and there will be days that you jump up and down with excitement. School is very overwhelming and you have to have the attitude one week at a time. There is no sense in worrying about what is going on next week when you still have plenty to do this week. From experience I can tell you that you will be so excited and nervous all at the same time to give a patient your first injection. There will be many many tough days, but its the good days that keep you going. There will be patients that touch your life and you touch theirs. There will be days where you come home and sit down on the couch with exhaustion but your heart feels very big and like its smiling. Those are the days that you know you are in the right place and that this is a career you want to do forever. Good Luck to you just remember millions have done this before and if they can so can you.
  4. Hello Everyone I have a group project to do and my section is on the power of nursing. I need to define what it means which is in my text book. Then it goes on to say a little bit about personal, professional, and organizational power. The book is written above me. I am not out in the real world of nursing yet. I am still under that nursing student blanket and have not had the chance to experience real world nursing. I keep hearing how it is so much different in the real world. I would guess that includes politics. The book says that every nurse has power. I get that part. We have the power to evoke fears in those we care for. We have the power to speak the truth. We have the power to control our time and resources. So my question is What does personal power, professional power and orginizational power mean to those of you that are already working in the field and how do you think if effects your patients? I am looking to use some quotes for my presentation. I think it would be great to have asked the question and not have text book answers on what a nurse should think it is. To me personal power is being able to manage my time and have the ability and knowledge to provide care to my patients. To me as a student professional power and hospital power are not something I have the ability to experience yet. In out text power is not a negative thing. It is described as the ability to create, get and use resources to achieve one's goals. So no negative talk please. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
