Been reading the thread. i have been interested in travel nursing for a long time and thinking to do it soon. How has your experience been, Dee?

Hi codeman. i havent done my 1st travel assignment yet but i am a traveler. I have seen 49 states except hawaii. i have driven cross country from nj to cali before. so i though i'd give you some tips. i have found mapquest to be helpful. u can plug two places in and find out how many miles, how long it would take and approx how much gas you will use. it also depends on how much time you can spend in your road trip to see some things. it depends on how many hours u feel comfortable driving per day as well. check out the different routes and states on those routes and see if there is anything you'd like to see or major cities you'd like to see . i have done the rt 66 and has many interesting things on that route as well as attractions that u can see if u venture off ( if you have time) like the grand canyon, monument valley etc etc etc make sure you have navigation system or be really good with maps. make sure you have FM radio or lots of CDS/ipod. make sure you bring cooler with drinks and snacks so that u don't spend too much on conveinence stores. road trips can be fun and interesting if you prepare. some of the experence is just going with the flow as well. and be very careful with truck stops, shady motels, shady situations etc. people have been abducted before. definitely check in with people when you reach destinations or let someone at home know which route you plan on taking. have car charger for phone and iPod . i wish you well on ur 1st assignment :)

yes i did tele 7 years then wanted to do travel nursing. i then realized that i would be more marketable if i did ER. I now have 5 years under my belt. so its good to hear what u just said.

My specialty is ER for 5 years and tele 7 years before that. a beater car huh? i hear you need a car in hawaii for sure. did you island hop when you were there?

hi been there,done that! after reading, it seems that completing the 1st assignment is key. i live in NJ and wondered if it would be at an advantage to take a "travel job" here as my 1st. how long does it take for agency to reimburse you the fees, travel expenses. is it usually in a good time frame? i wanted to go to hawaii or colorado or out west but worried how i'd get around. what did you do. where is your home state? i've worked for an agency in the past so i am aware of how fast they orient but it has been several years since i did that. i would just be concerned with computer/documentation orientation. these days it is so important to make sure that your documentation is straight. thank you again for responding :)

can any body recommend any good travel nursing companies to go with? I would be interested in hawaii, colorado and cali. it seems like there isnt many assignments in hawaii or colorado.

Hi all. Im new to this. I have always wanted to do travel nursing but never did. i ended saying where i was for 12 years. Now i would like to venture and finally try it out. any pointers? what companies are good? how do you get around once you're at your travel assignment? rental car? etc i am interested in hawaii, california and colorado.
