ArmyNP, I'm here at BOLC now, last week! Combatives were not an option. Only those that failed the PT test were exempt from combatives (they do regular PT while we did combatives). I dreaded doing it, but it's not bad and actually kind of fun. The short course reservists did combatives in the morning with us and then did PRT in the afternoon. They do this so the short course people can learn how to perform and conduct PRT. (no worries, this is mostly just stretching exercises). Those of us that are active duty do PRT during regular BOLC. Don't be anxious about BOLC. It is not hard at all and it is actually lots of fun! You will make lots of friends. While I'm happy to see my family again, I'm actually sad to leave!

Kgg6, I don't know anything about the HPSP and AF, just wanted to say I am an army CNM. I'm very happy with my decision to be a military midwife. Good luck with your journey! :-)

I don't really think sheets are needed. There are two people I know that brought them, but seems like just more stuff to haul out to the field, guess it's a personal opinion. I just washed the sleeping bag they issued us and it's fine. I did bring a hotel pillow with me to the field. The packing list says food is contraband, but we were instructed to bring food. There have been issues with vegetarians not having enough to eat in the field and the cadre just said to bring your own food. I brought tons of snacks this week and thankful I did. I'm not vegetarian, but the MREs and chow get old. You just have to eat in designated areas only-- don't want to attract ants/mice/snakes to your tent. As far as paper, I would just bring a small memopad that fits in your acu pocket. I am assuming you are short course/reserves? If so, bring lots of pt uniforms. Our short course people have to do PRT twice a day in the field and the 2 sets on the packing list aren't gonna cut it, especially since you are sleeping in them too. I would also buy two new canteens, you don't want to drink out of the issued ones! Even if you have a camelback, many times they want canteen only at formation for uniformity. Any other questions, just let me know. Oh and Dranger is correct, it is very easy here and I'm older and not one of the "hoohah hoohah type".

I have been here in Jan and if does get cold. If you are reserves, you are mainly just coming here for the field portion so know that you will be in the field in jan. I would probably pick march if you have a choice! It is SO hot right now for us. But march would be perfect. We are wearing the dress uniform for graduation. What are dorm sheets for??? You will get all your TA 50 stuff here.

I'm also a NP and I'm at bolc now. You really don't need a printer, the hotel has a business center. I bought two pair of boots but I'm active duty and I knew I would use them. They are on the packing list, but no one really checks and I know another person that only brought one pair. You will probably be fine. Just make sure they are authorized boots. They are strict on that. If you have any other questions just let me know.

I received my army orders too! It looks like Armymom and I will be going to bolc together! I am continuing on to Ft Benning. Ironically I had Ft Stewart on my top 3 choices, and Benning was not on my list. But I am very happy we are going there. I have heard great things. I'm excited.

Dogleg, Congrats! Are you active duty or reserves? Do you know your bolc dates yet? I just signed my contract yesterday. Now I'm in wait mode for orders.

Congrats!! So did you get your contract? Any idea on when you will go to bolc? So far I haven't heard anything!

Ladyfaaz, From what I understand, the regular RN board was in November and I was told my selection board was in December. I assume your fnp board was probably in December as well? That would make sense why some RNs know before we do. Hopefully we will all be in bolc together in July! I want to get to work already!!!!

LadyFaaz, Have you heard if you officially got in? I'm still waiting on the official word. I haven't signed any contract yet. Will feel better after I sign that! I see you are FNP? I am a CNM. And yes, I thought I would hear in December too! I hate being in limbo.

I am a Frontier Alumni and I have nothing but positive things to say. Every school has pros and cons, but overall I feel like I had a great education. I love, love, love Frontier's rich history and traditions. It really is a big family and my classmates are not only colleagues but best friends for life. To clarify, the clinical rule is no OOH VBACs. VBACs in hospital during clinicals are acceptable. Frontier does support OOH birth, the preceptor just has to maintain malpractice insurance for obvious legal issues. I would encourage you to call the school if you have any questions or need clarifications. Frontier was my first choice and I have no regrets. (Disclaimer, I know nothing about UofC or other schools). Good luck!!

Any idea how long the scroll process takes? My recruiter said we are waiting on scrolls to come back.

I am pretty sure they can take Frontier Bound payment out of your student loan money. I don't remember having to come up with $500. Call the financial aid office at Frontier and ask. Good luck everyone!

I am almost done with the cnep program. I have four boys (15, 13, 6, 4) and have worked pretty much full-time since I started the program 2 yrs ago. I did go PRN at work, but work full-time hours. Basically I need the $$, but I like the flexibility to turn down hours if school is getting too crazy! I am going full-time at Frontier and when I first started my husband was deployed. I work dayshift and nightshift, whatever shifts I can pick up at work. The program is not easy by any means, but it is doable. You will have to give up things, learn to say no to people. I no longer volunteer in kids church, my house isn't always clean, my kids have learned to eat pb&J and ramen noodles. I have a very supportive husband who is not afraid of rolling up his sleeves and doing dishes, laundry, scrubbing toliets....whatever needs to be done. And thankfully my kids make good grades without needing me to hover and check their homework. Basically, I'm just trying to say that it is a tough program, but it is doable. I don't consider myself a genius, I just study hard and keep on going no matter how bad it gets. I have one term left, and I will say it has went by fast! Good luck to you!
