  1. yeah, contact your recruiters in either facility. my suggestion is to take the RN1F and apply for permanent (A item) after 6 months when you become eligible for that promotion. this means you get benefits, etc. (that was what i did when i worked there) relief is higher pay but honestly, they dont have benefits and im not sure how they go through promotion anyway.
  2. RNBSN4 and Sophia432, I just received my letter that I passed, too! Whew. Yay!
  3. That's awesome RNBSN4 and Sophia432! I hope I get something too, that it's at least on it's way to the east coast... Last time, I never received my letter. I had it resent again and still didn't get it. I really hope I get something! Yay! So happy for you guys. Keep going at it!
  4. This is my second time applying. I had been called to do the civil service exam (oral interview) before, but i was only on the list for 6 months. Shortly after that interview I got a job so I decided to stay in New York for at least a year. Just be mindful that you'd have to go through the process again when your eligibility expires. It's not a matter of "keeping in touch," there IS a time limit. I got a call back when I decided to apply for posted positions again and the recruiter said they couldn't consider me because as of the day before that, I was no longer on the list...
  5. Hey, Sophia432! Took it a little while ago and yes, those three minutes were not enough! It could go either way, because I feel like the personality ones are the bulk of the assessment. Let's hope we can be a match for county!
  6. I uploaded those that I have, but I also included recommendation letters and scans of my certificates, awards, etc. For those that doesn't have a category, I just placed it under "other."
  7. start here Los Angeles County Department of Human Resources-Job Search and have a lot of patience! :-)
  8. Not yet, Sophia432! I have tomorrow off so I'll do it i the morning before it expires... Yes, the practice ones are so hard! I hope you did well! You probably did much better than you think.
  9. I wasn't offered a job [yet], just the written exam. Hopefully it goes well so I can be on the list. I was on the list last year but was offered a job here in New York and by the time I started applying for a position my eligibility had expired since it had already been 6 months since my oral interview.
  10. r. yusi, was the position you interviewed for the RN I-ER position? i wonder if you got those because ER experience was required. congratulations on the offer!
  11. Sophia432, i am to take the written exam too! i did the study guide assessment and it was so difficult! i think i read in the letter that we would need a calculator too, so im gonna review dosage calculations as well.
  12. Great, congrats! :w00t: Are you hired as staff or per diem? Do you know when you're starting?
  13. congrats, guys! yes, i do hope mine gets in soon. good luck and call away!
  14. im so nervous now...:uhoh21: i hope i get mine soon too! if they sent them out at the same time, maybe mine is going to take a day or two longer because im in NY. i hope i passed!
  15. i did my initial interview on that day too, XimenaT! have you called to find out if you passed? i was going to, but figured i should a few more weeks... or days! ahhhh... this week, we reached the 4-week mark, am i right? ahhh well, patience, patience... :icon_roll
  16. a lot of the people in my class have found jobs already, but i still havent found a full time position. i graduated in jan (BSN) and got licensed in NY in may. i have applied at hospitals in the city too, and have started looking at some places upstate. i do have volunteer experience (lots of hours and even an award from the hospital) but have not gone forward with getting a job at that hospital. i also have IV cert training and ACLS since i needed these to be competitive when i got licensed in california (in march). i have gone on one interview in cali, and a few in NY. all of them seemed like it could move forward but there's no word at this point. all i can do right now is stay positive and keep moving on to the next thing, even if that's starting with an application all over again... hard as it is, i'm lucky and very thankful for the support system i have. us new grads still looking for jobs just need to go through this and keep going!
  17. thanks for the info myitas! :) and congrats on getting a start date.
  18. congrats on everyone who have surpassed their waiting and have moved forward on their process! yayyy! :yelclap::w00t::cheers: i appreciate all past input here that has helped me prepare for what to expect in this process. i was just wondering how i should go by this for myself. i had my civil service interview on july 30th and have since been interviewing for other places. i live in new york. and might start a full-time position soon (i've been doing per diem work part time while applying to RN jobs in CA and NY). if i do start a full time position in NY, i might stay for 2 years to qualify for a loan repayment program--so, if i do this would i have to do the civil service interview again to be on the eligibility list again or stay on it? if anything, i may be applying to a different position within the county in the future. i had the initial interview for RN I position. does this mean i would have to do another interview for a different position? thank you for all your input!
  19. Thanks, myRN85! When you got oriented, did you have to wait for more new hires to go on that orientation process in Manhattan? Or did you go as soon as your paperwork was done? Thanks for your input on the car. If I do work in Brooklyn, I might find it hard to do multiple visits a day just relying on the buses...
  20. hang in there, lifeisgood2012! persist that there is a place that will see your potential and train you to be the nurse that you've always wanted to be. yes, LTC is not a world we were trained for in nursing school, so those facilities shouldn't expect us new grads to know the "shortcuts." easier said than done, but don't beat yourself up. i tell myself the same thing (still looking for a job 3 months and counting). just remember to keep going and to also take care of yourself. seek comfort in your support system and keep going.
  21. Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone has had (or know someone who does) experience working with VNSNY with their Brooklyn region. What is the hiring process like? Did you have to wait a long time to get oriented? I was told I may need a car to work in Brooklyn. Is travelling by foot/public transit possible while working in this area?
  22. I also met a fellow alumni of my school (BSN program) who got hired there as a new grad. He loves it and even offered to hand in my resume, but I haven't heard back from him or MSKCC, though I havent reached out to them personally either. If you know MSKCC are gonna be at a career fair, definitely go because that's how fellow alumni got the contact.
