  1. I would also like to share my happy tears experience... I am still a fairly newbie nurse with a little more there a year of med surg experience. Just this past weekend, as I was getting report, one of my patients name sounded really familiar. When I went into her room to introduce myself I realized I met her last year when she was really sick and required an ileostomy bag placed. During this admission, she was getting better and was back in the hospital to get the ileostomy closed. She was really excited to see me again and started telling me how she told everyone about me after she was discharged. I was so happy that she was getting better that my eyes started brimming a little with happy tears. I am glad that i am part of her journey to recovery. Sometimes, there are days when I question why I became a nurse, but seeing her made me realize why I entered this profession again.
  2. Hi, sorry for the late reply! Any luck so far? I dont have any CNA experience, but I have worked as a medical receptionist for 6 years. I am bilingual in English and Chinese though. My advice is to get any experience you can get and then keep on trying. Dont give up!
  3. They were both for Med Surg positions. I was excited to land an interview, but it all happened after I accepted the positon already. I declined the interviews.
  4. Hello, so sorry for the late reply! I currently work at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, but I believe one of the reasons why they hired me was because I went to school at Beth Israel School of Nursing. But shortly after I got hired, I started to get replies back for an interviews from other hospitals like Methodist and Lutheran. Be patient and dont give up!
  5. Hi, I was a new graduate with an associates degree in 2013 and I was able to land a hospital position a year later. At that point I was already working as an RN in the community setting and enrolled in BSN program. I must have submitted over hundreds of applications. Just dont give up!
  6. Dont worry. I am right there with you. I started working in October. I am currently working in the med surg float pool. Been on my own for about a month now. Everyone says it gets better. I really hope its true! I usually get so anxious the night before I have work that I cant sleep.
  7. You are not alone. I am in my third week of precepted and I do feel overwhelmed, incompetent, slow and even stupid. I have been given 5 patients with new admissions. I barely have time to document assessments. I also do it very slowly because I dont want to miss anything, but my preceptor keeps on telling to speed up. She also mentioned I am slow. It makes me wonder if I am in the right field. Everyone keeps on telling me to not give up. I really hope it will get better. Dont give up. We are all going through the same thing. :)
  8. It took me about a year and after 100+ applications before I finally landed my first hospital position. Good luck!
  9. Hi FLboundBSN! You are so lucky to have obtained your first hospital position so fast! It took me a little bit more than a year to find a hospital position and as I have mentioned before, I am starting next month. Looking forward to sharing the experience with everyone else! I am pretty anxious, nervous and excited all rolled up in one. I hope that the experienced nurse won't "eat the young"!
  10. Hi everyone, I am also starting in October as a med surg float nurse. Reading everyones posts makes me feel very anxious and jittery knowing that I will have to go through everything you guys are going through. I am sure we can make it through this together!
  11. Thank you estrellaCR for your prompt response! I have applied to at least 80+ positions on the HHC website now and I have not received a single response. Its just very frustrating. Every couple of weeks, I try to fix my resume again and hopefully will get something, but still nothing. I guess I will continue to try again.
  12. Hi, I was just wondering where you guys submitted your resume for the HHC hospitals? Did you submit it through the HHC website or just faxed it to the numbers listed on the website? I have been applying since March and I have not received any response. It was frustrating when I called the HR department because they also didn't seem to know were to send the resumes to as well. Does anyone know the process how HHC hospitals hire? Thanks. Best of luck to you NYRN92!
  13. Hi, I missed the open house event as well. Does anyone know of any other job fair or open house events in New York City? Thank you.
  14. Hi NycRN92. Thanks for the information. I also received the post card as well. I'm sure it is a generic post card they send to everyone who applied for a position. Best of luck to all of us!
  15. Hi everyone, Can anyone tell me how much the fee is to obtain the NJ license? I have been applying all over NYC Hospitals but it has been very difficult getting a response. I'm thinking of trying NJ hospitals. Thank you!
  16. Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it usually takes for a recruiter to contact you from a HHC Hospital after you apply? I hope you guys don't mind for me to vent a little because I am starting to feel frustrated. So here's my story. I graduated in May 2013 with an ASN and was licensed in June 2013. I enrolled in BSN classes in August and started working as a community nurse at an adult social daycare in September. I recently got certified as a Patient Center Medical Home Content Certified Expert in March and since then I started running around doctor's office encouraging practices to participate in patient centered medical home along with working at the adult social daycare. The problem? I am itching to use my clinical skills. I feel like I forgot everything already. I really want to be able to use the hands on skills I learned in nursing school. I have been furiously applying to hospital positions all over New York City since March - and have not received any interviews. Its just frustrating how almost all positions require you to have either two years of experience. How is anyone supposed to get that experience when no one is willing to train? I have read that HHC Hospitals are willing to train new grads so I have been applying to them. Please cross your fingers for me. Thank you for reading my vent.
  17. Hi everyone, I just need some career advice and I have no clue where else to turn to except here. I am a new nurse graduate. I graduated last year in May, licensed in June and found my first job as a RN in September. I am currently working at an adult social daycare center as a community nurse. There is a lot of patient education and assessement involved. I have learned things but there are no clinical work involve. I feel like Im forgetting all my nursing skills and I feel like there is no growth at my current job. I love my coworkers but hate the managenent. I started to apply for new jobs. I want to find a position in the hospital and get that golden one year of med urg position so that I can go anywhere I want afterwards. Im not really sure what I want to specialize in (but Im leaning more on peds). Ive been applying all over, but as an inexperienced new grad in New York City, its been extremely difficult. After lots of rejection, I applied as a dialysis nurse at DaVita. I have an interview for next week. My question is, if I work as a dialysis nurse, will I have difficulty jumping into a different area of nursing? Eventually I would like to get a feel of what its like to be a floor nurse. Im so confused now. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for reading my long post!
  18. congratulations! As a new grad myself, I hope to one day be "that nurse" as well.
  19. Hello everyone! I am a new grad and was licensed about a little bit more then a month ago. Ever since then, I have applied to 15-20 places are so. I applied to clinics, long term care facilities, hospitals (even though I know its a slim chance) etc. Its been at least a month now and I haven't heard back from any of them. A email acknowledging that they at least received my resume and cover letter would be nice. I wouldn't mind getting a rejection email either since I would have closure and move on. But the fact that I haven't heard anything is driving me a little bit crazy right now. I am very tempted to give the HR department a call just to see if they received my resume or not. Is it bad contacting them? Thanks!
  20. Haha. Im sorry, I feel a little bit slow, but what exactly does GCU stand for? Im currently trying to find a college where they will take the most of my transfer credits, with the lowest tuition or the fastest route for me to complete my BSN. Prior to my ADN program, I completed two years of pre reqs and other elective courses. I havent made a final decision yet, but I have already heard from an admissions officer from Utica and Chamberlain. Havent heard from Drexel yet, thats why I want to ask you guys for opinon. I have read soe positive review online. Thanks!
  21. Hi everyone! I just received my license last week. I graduated from an ADN program, so I hope to seek employment while starting an online RN to BSN program. I've currently narrowed it down to three schools I'm interested in. I'm interested in Chamberlain, Utica and Drexel. I was wondering if anyone who went to any of these programs have any opinions about them? I'm currently most interested in the Drexel online program. I have already called Utica and Chamberlain for information, I was so surprised how fast they tried to get me to pay for my application fee over the phone! Thanks in advance!
  22. where did you find that information? crossing fingers for all of us!
  23. i hope that ny will be just as fast!
  24. do you guys know if there might be a chance we can get our license number posted before the quick result? maybe possibly tomorrow? i dont know how i can get through this next 48 hrs. lol
