Hi, just thought I would say Hello! I live about an hour from UTMC. I work for Covenant Health. It's funny that you are thinking of moving to TN, and I am moving back to FL in the fall if all works out. UTMC is only hiring BSN, and making many of their ASN nurses get their BSN. I think they have to have a large percentage of their nurses have a BSN to maintain Magnet status. I know it is a great place to work. I would be there if it wasn't over an hour drive. Hope you like it up here. I regret moving here all the time. It was a culture shock for me. I just need to be close to a beach! Of course, I am an hour from Knoxville and where I am there isn't much to do. It might have been different if I had chosen Knoxville. More things to do with the kids. Enjoy!

Hi! I will be attending MTSU Family Nurse Practitioner I am PRN, but work 24+ a week in the ER Full time student I am excited and nervous. It has been 7 years since I graduated. Plus I now have 2 kids where in my BSN program I didn't have any. Will have to learn to not feel like I have to do everything to be a good Mom. I gave a great support system.

I will be attending MTSU. I received my M# and registered for Adv Patho, Pharm, and Health Assess. What are you taking in the Fall?

I wanted an online program instate so I could keep costs down. I looked into Graceland as well. I hope I can find some people who are going to be in the RODP classes with me. Have you decided where you are going? Have you done the RODP application?

I start Fall and am wondering how the classes are done as well. Do we log onto RODP's website? They have a link on their website. Hope you can figure it out soon. Let me know if you figure it out.

Is this a Regents program? I will be starting in Fall and wondering how it is set up for classes and coursework.

I moved from Savannah 4 years ago and would move back in a hearbeat. There are plenty of great places to live in Savannah without moving further out and increasing your commute. I lived in a better part of Georgetown that has a good school. My family lives in Southside and it's nice there. You just have to know where to go. Memorial is great to work for! If you have any other questions let me know. I still have my house there just in case I can leave here!

Hi, I live outside Knoxville, and I haven't heard of new grads having problems finding jobs. There are quite a few hospitals in and around Knoxville to choose from. UT Medical Center is in Knoxville, too. I work with a nurse who graduated from UT. All schools have their own issues. When do you start?

There are a few schools that don't require you to have any bedside experience before you start NP school. I believe Vanderbilt is one. I work in the ER, and we have 2 NP's who had no experience when they started NP school, went right through both. I think some experience is good to build critical thinking and to humble you. That way you don't take the nurses for granted.

I like Jacksonville personally. I recently moved from Savannah, so not too far away. Plenty of jobs, and they have a couple of hospitals there. There are some nice cities close by to visit when you are off. Good luck!

So arg928, did you accept the position with the private facility? I start at one in 2 weeks, so I am wondering how it is going to go. Would love to hear any experiences at private facilities. Thanks.

I am so excited to start 12/26! I am going to miss the ER, but I know I will learn a lot at this place. I love the idea of helping women recover and move on with their lives. I am a little apprehensive of leaving the ER so hopefully that will decrease over time. I will be working 7a-7p, Sat-Mon. Any helpful hints anyone has for me?

I have accepted the job, which is Sat-Mon, 7a-7p. Even working every weekend, it seems like a great schedule. I am exhausted after working 12 hours in the ER, and not really getting to know the patients. I will stay PRN in the ER, to keep my skills up. It will feel a little weird not doing a lot of the clinical skills, but will pickup so many other skills important in this field. I am excited for this change.

I have been looking at a private facility, where there are nurses there 24/7, therapists, and MD's available 24/7. The residents want to be there, and want the help. I am an ER nurse, so this would be something new for me. We deal with the psychiatric emergency, then they usually go to an inpatient facility. This facility is not locked, and they are free to roam around. I am ready for a change from the ER. I would like to get to know the people I care for, longer than just a few hours. I hope to make the change soon. It seems like a great facility.

Where is the facility located, if you don't mind me asking? I have been interested in making the change to this area of nursing. Did you take the job? If so, how do you like it? There are a few facilities located around where I live. Thanks, Crystal

Hi. I work at a Covenant Facility in Sevierville, right outside of Knoxville. I love working with them because they own at least 5 or more hospitals in and around Knoxville. This means that you can transfer between facilities after a year and not lose benefits or CTO already accrued. I believe the starting rate for new grads is around $19 or so. Not much more. There are other hospitals in Knoxville that might pay more. I love living in Sevierville because it's only 40 minutes from Knoxville. The hospital I work at is very family focused and everyone pretty much knows everyone. We just built the new hospital and the ER is 38 beds. You would love it there. I was pregnant with my first child and 30 years old. I went to the hospital, they checked me and said I was 3-4 cm with contractions every 4 minutes so they placed me in the room, started the IV and placed me on the monitor. They let me get up to go to the bathroom less than 30 minutes later and when I got back to the bed I told my husband I thought I had to push. He ran and got the nurse, who pushed me back on the bed and said she was crowning. She then asked if this was my first, and caught Ava. The nurse could not believe that this was my first pregnancy. I am an ER RN, and I couldn't have told you that I was going to have her right then. There was no way at that point I could have crossed my legs and not pushed. You are trained to deliver babies if you have to, and you sound like you did everything you could have. Some women have fast labors. At least I knew that going into my second pregnancy, and my OB induced me. I labored 4 hours with my son and pushed twice. I thank God I didn't have him at home. We have delivered too many babies in the ER and lobby lately. When that baby wants out they come. I wouldn't let the charge RN make you question yourself too much.

Still nothing here. Really nervous.

Have you guys applied to other schools? I am getting my application ready for a few others. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst.

I live in TN right now, moved up a year ago. So where else have you guys applied to? I hope the letters come soon, so we can stop worrying. Of course, if it's bad then they can keep it. So will you guys be moving with families if you get accepted? Crystal
