Calling all Grand Canyon University Spring 2014 Hopefuls!!!
One pair of scrubs first semester. I bought a greys anatomy. Before 2nd sem began I purchased one more along with a landau. It helps with clinical & labs to have extra! Get the usual, notebooks, pens, pencils, oh, & a MASTER CALENDAR!! You must put all assignments in one place so you don't get confused & forget anything. Please stick to that calendar! Write everything for the semester in there with all due dates & knock them out the way early if you can. You'll be grateful that you did! ☺

GCU 2014 Summer
Hi everyone. Ebak, for you at Boswell I can tell you now, our campus is strict about us looking good. They are trying to mold us into professional nurses. From this point on you represent GCU. Everything that you do & say can be held against you. Please be careful about what you post on social media. Shoes must be all white however I've seen a pair with a purple Nike check. (1pair) nails must be clean & short, no polish at our campus. Polish even un-chipped harvests bacteria. Hair kept up out of face & off shoulders in your scrubs. They did away with fundamentals & we now have "foundations" which teaches u the ethics behind nursing. It's a great course in which we all need so we can be aware of the rules & our limits in the profession. We don't have clinical in level 1 but luckily at Boswell, we have volunteers from the hospital who come to our labs for health assessment & allow us to practice on them. It's so much fun & they are very nice, we enjoy them as well. Books: I always purchased the bundle which to me was quick & easy. Some ppl did buy their books online & purchase the codes separately. One more thing, for pharm, look for Pharm Phlash, these are flash cards with every med & all you need to know about them. These saved me! You'll see once you get them! ;-) Relax guys, it's lost of hard work but you made it this far for a reason. Manage your time & study hard, you've got this!!!

Oh they did? I never knew that. Gotcha

Who is finding nursing school way easier than you were told it would be?
Say no to holistic care? Why would you feel that way? Caring for a patient holistically is the best way to do so. It's the whole pt & their families. Are you in a BSN program? They really enforce evidence based nursing practice & holistic care in those programs. I go to GCU & I truly appreciate my professors & the curriculum for leading me on the right path of achieving what's expected for healthcare by 2020. Maybe your teacher wasn't literally showing you table manners but manners in general. Maybe that's her way of teaching professionalism... Try to appreciate your teachers bc I think they do what they do for particular reasons.

Ladies if you're a single mother or not legally married message me. I have info that can help u pay for school.- Calling all Grand Canyon University Spring 2014 Hopefuls!!!
Hello. I'll be at Boswell level 2. I was in the same boat as u. Everyone will be piled up in the main hallway on the first day. Just join them & someone will direct u from there. You'll probably be in one room for the introduction by our director first.- Calling all Grand Canyon University Spring 2014 Hopefuls!!!
Hi. Sorry I'm so late responding. Yes we have. I don't know it from memory but it is M & W mental health & Med Surg lecture. One in the morning from 9-11 & other 1-3 tu med surg clinical starting on the 28th I believe. Fri mental health clinical starting on the 17th. That one is 3 wks only & the other 10 wks. We were able to choose where we wanted to go. I have Del Webb & Boswell. We will have open lab days on the leftover days with now class time or after class. I'm so excited to begin. Oh & there's also an evidence-based practice class that is online.- Calling All GCU Fast Track Students & Grads
Don't forget us at Boswell, Sun City! We're the first cohort there. :-)- GCU 2014 Summer
Sorry to butt in guys but I'm in the program at Boswell. (Level 1) We are able to take the exam to become a cna once the first level is completed & I "heard" lpn after level 2. We no longer use ATI. We do however have HESI case studies to practice with but I'm guessing we will be using HESI to prepare for the nclex since GCU is switching to the HESI A2 for their entrance exam. Program is awesome, love it so far! I live hearing from new grads or someone who previously completed the program from GCU! Always positive feedback, gives me great hope thanks!!!- Why does school have to be made to be (seemingly) unneccesarily difficult?
I don't know what school you went to or what program but in a nursing program you can't choose your classes. You have to take the courses as they're set up in the curriculum. This semester I had 4 classes including health assessment and pharm. We signed up for this so we need to learn how to get through it. I consider it a challenge that I'm willing to fight through!- Calling all Grand Canyon University Spring 2014 Hopefuls!!!
Don't plan on a life. Lol Jk you'll know what u can & can't do. I have 3 kids so there's only so much I can do. My friend has 2 kids & she had to skip out on camping but was able to throw her daughter an extravagant bday party. Camping fell during a week with 3 writing assignments & the party was bw tests. But u do want to be careful. If u have something to coming up in ur planner stick to the assignment before going out. You'll be fine trust me!- Calling all Grand Canyon University Spring 2014 Hopefuls!!!
Correction, the recording was for Communications. Ur very welcome! I know you're excited! It'll be here before u know it. Maybe u should go buy the latest edition of the nclex book & the pharm phlash flash cards! Those help tremendously!- Calling all Grand Canyon University Spring 2014 Hopefuls!!!
Workload? Papers? Where do I begin??? Lol so far I've written at least 3 750-1000 word papers in APA & a 500 word. You're correct about us not having exams in those two classes. We do however have presentations. In Foundations there are journal entries due every Sunday & in communications there is a discussion question (DQ) due every Wednesday night at 2359. (Get used to that military time if u aren't already) those weekly writings have to be a maximum of 250 words. U have to properly cite in APA also. I used to hate writing but I've gotten so used to it by now. We did have more writing assignments but they were a little different. For example. We had to do a patient medication teaching in Pharm, a recording of a conversation in pharmacology, & an assessment of a patient utilizing different questionnaires in HA. You guys will love it. I'm loving every bit of it. Take it all in please & don't rush it. This semester had gone by so fast. It was bittersweet. I'm excited for level 2 but I'm hoping it goes a little slower. Lol I've made the best of friends. I feel like we're all a big family. Everyone is so willing to help bc we don't want anyone to get left behind. We're all in this together! MsBond, sounds like your lab may be longer than ours which is something we all had hoped for for the new level 1. Lots of time is needed to learn all we need to. Also, do you know where we're located? It's across the street from Boswell. Hope to see u there!- Calling all Grand Canyon University Spring 2014 Hopefuls!!!
