  1. Had a patient who was dying from cancer of her tongue, which spread over her face. Had Mrsa oozing out of her trach and nostrils. Suctioned for copious amounts of green sputum each time I went up her nose. Felt bad because it was a friends aunt. I had to keep excusing myself with each suction. Had a man with a abdominal mesh. The wound was huge and the odor was ungodly. I was pregnant and had to do his wound in increments. He was such a nice man and thankfully he understood. After my pregnancy he was still in rehab and I was showing pictures of my daughter and oops, he saw my pubic mound. Lol. Didn't realize it till a therapist showed me. Woops!???
  2. With your kids, I'd do the take away if you don't help gig! With your fiancé,I wouldn't give him any, until he helps out. Either that or leave the house a disaster and eventually someone will clean. Maybe, do a chart with expected chores for your kids and reward them when the chore is done, just to get piece of mind and study time!! Good luck with that!!
  3. Thanks, that clarifies a lot. My kids are older now so it will be easier to study. Aside from them bickering they do give me my space. I will inquire more from their program after I read up on it more
  4. Ok so I have to retake all my classes again. That stinks but it had been like 10 years. As long as I get my Rn then I will be happy
  5. I must of read it wrong in guessing. Could of swore it said would accept any length for those subjects as long as it was an accredited college
  6. Hello, I was thinking about going back to school after being an Lpn for over 20 years. I've taken most pre requisite courses such as A&P and micro as well as English comp one and two. I've read that this school transfers credits with no time limit which would keep me from doing more schooling. Any insight on this school would be appreciated.
  7. When is this show supposed to air. The description sounds good so far. Doesn't sound too demeaning.
  8. I'm in New Jersey and can do virtually everything except drawling blood from a pic and Iv push meds. Other than that we do NG tubes and even chest tubes etc. we are responsible for our patients including new admits and care plans. No one counter signs for me. And I am hearing that r scope for Lpn is going to be broader which would allow push meds and blood drawls. I've been at my facility for 16 years.
  9. I've told my co workers. They all know as well as my family and friends. I don't care if they know or not. I'm a good nurse with a big heart. I'm medicated and when I go over the deep end at least they know why. Lol.
  10. I too, have been diagnosed with bipolar 1 for about 6 years. My husband took the time to research it and took me to my doctors which saved me. I was being reckless and out of control. My problem was sexual in nature. Always had to be center of the conversation and flirting to the point of getting phone numbers and meeting people out for drinks. I owe my husband everything, if it wasn't for him I'd be spiraling out of control. I was seeing a psychiatrist but have been stable for years. I take Effexor, Prozac, and lamictal, which helps with the anger I was experiencing. I would not sleep for days either and trazadone helps with that. I have to say, I do miss mania because from the meds I'm now tired all the time.some days it's even hard to do a load of laundry. But all in all feel great!
  11. That's the thing, we just hired a bunch of new nurses and I was saying they won't stay because of no work. I did have the time to spare but now I used up all my days to be cancelled. I don't feel special because I'm " grandfathered in", and really do feel for the other nurses. I guess what this thread is coming down too, is that the economy plus the insurance kicking patients out before they are ready. We are suffering because of it and the fact our facility became greedy and opened up two other rehab facilities within the same locations.
  12. Like I said ,I've been with this company for 15 years. I've never saw it this bad. I have PTO time and accrued sick time as well as 4 weeks vacation. I'm grandfathered in!One would think I would not get cancelled because of seniority but apparently that isn't the case.
  13. I live in New Jersey. We never had to be mandated before. I feel as though is a problem between the company. They opened up two other facilities in pretty much the same location. We're competing with ourselves. I've never saw it this bad and I've been with the company for 15 years
  14. My work just told us that they are now doing mandated cancellations. We were all hired for 40 hours and are now working 32 or less. The problem is , the census is at its all time low. Some are afraid of losing their jobs. Have any of you ever heard of mandated cancelations? And can you apply for temporary unemployment?
  15. The patient could of been retaining fluid (a cities). I've had a patient that had abdominal distension and parenthesis in the past, and it was her abdominal fluid vs bladder. Bladder was empty. I've also had the machine measure more and when inserted foley was less.
  16. My job allowed me to get Iv certified. I've been at my current employer for 15 years. But the pharmacy your facility is with may do Iv certification classes as well. Good luck.
  17. I've been an Lpn for 21 years and been aloud to hang and start an Iv for 12 years now. I work in New Jersey and I'm Iv certified. I can maintain all lines, hang Iv antibiotic and other meds. I can start a peripheral line too. I would think being a new Lpn that was taught in school, being our scope of practice is now more broad. And always look up all meds you are unsure of!! If you were my nurse I would of felt you were incompetent. And I'm sure she felt the same way being she asked your name. I still look up meds I'm unsure of. Doesn't make you a stupid nurse, just a cautious one!! Best of luck!!
  18. No deficiency. We were deficiency free!
  19. No the state survey wants you to dry your hands then get a new towel to turn off faucet. I did it the way your saying last year and was told I washed my hands well. But it does make sense to use another towel being the faucet is dirty.
  20. That makes sense. We were inservice real quick but no explanation. Thanks for replying. Wanted to give my friend an explanation.
  21. Had our state survey and was told that after u wash and dry your hands that you need a fresh towel to turn off faucet!! Was never taught that in nursing school and looked up several sites on the issue and nothing is mentioned. Just asking your advice, being that your hands are already cleaned after washing.
  22. I think it is probably fascia tissue. Ur best bet is to use adaptic and wound gel in my opinion. Ca alignate is for draining wounds.
  23. Thank u very much. This kind of drug, enzyme replacement therapy, causes reaction at the infused site but not known as the opposite site. And your answer sounds sufficient. Have a great day!?
