Indian Health Service
I am graduating NP school in a year (specialty FNP) and want to work in community health & primary care. I live in the northeast right now but would love to move west for my first NP job. Has anyone worked for IHS right out of NP school? I'm having a hard time finding info on whether or not they hire new grads, and if the jobs are typically for outpatient or inpatient work. Specifically speaking I'd like to work in the southwest- AZ, UT, CO, or NM area.

Hi! I couldn't fly out because with the short notice prices were insanely expensive, and without a gaurantee job I couldn't spend that kind of money. I wish I could have though because I would love to work there! So it was two phone interviews for me, I think they went well but it's kind of difficult to tell on the phone. Still waiting to hear back!

Validity of Pearson VUE Trick...
The trick was accurate for me and all of my friends that did it! But none of us believed it until we saw the official license number online. Congrats!!

Do you know what unit she got hired to? Was it for the new grad program?

Follow up????
I usually try to call HR to follow up, it's hard to actually get a person on the phone and sometimes once you do they want nothing to do with you, but it can't hurt. If you know the nurse manager's information of the unit you applied to you can send them an email or a phone call stating that you're very interested in the position and you thank them for taking the time to review your application. Usually there are so many applications for every position that just getting your name out there again might be the difference between them paying attention to your application and just quickly looking it over.

I interviewed for a pedi unit as well and I'm in the same spot as flights for me to get out there next week are about $1000! So it will be over the phone again for me, I hope that me not being there to see the unit won't hurt my chances either. I also still need to apply for an AZ license, I would rather pay the extra for a temporary license than start the process before hired and not need it at all. What unit are you interviewing for?

I currently am in Massachusetts where the job market is horrible. The phone interview just had a bunch of situational questions. For me the problem would be finding a way to get out there quickly enough and a place to live on such short notice.

I had a phone interview yesterday and am in the process of setting up a peer interview for next week. My problem is I live on the east coast right now and flights are wayyy too expensive for me to get out there before the start date (second week in February they told me). I also have no idea where I would live, etc so it's all a bit exciting/scary at the same time! They didn't mention what pay would be though, which is a factor for me because moving would cost a lot and my student loans are really high.

I have applied to some LTACs but haven't heard back yet. Do those generally pay better than nursing homes/assisted livings?

Salary at MGH
I know of people that got new grad jobs there and have about a 6-month orientation where they are only getting paid $11/hr, then once off orientation they'll get full pay

Just wondering what the average nursing home salary for an RN is in the Boston area. I'm a new grad having a hard time finding a job and thinking about starting to apply to nursing homes in the area. Thanks for any help!
