Cleveland Clinic RN New Graduate
I'm sorry to hear that Kayemmejay. What did they have you do for the physical test? I was offered the PICU position. I so excited. I'm in pretty good shape, but I heard that the physical test is hard. Do what you can to get in good cardio shape. Start walking and doing weights. Even if it is light. As long as I pass they physical test I'm in. I can't wait to start. I also got a job at Menorah Park. I'm not sure if I should take it and just concentrate on the PICU.

Teacher said NOWAY....new grad hiring into ICU positions
It is very possible. I'm a new grad without any nursing experience except for what I got in school, and I was just hired in a PICU. I have a B.S. in biology and have been working as a chemist for the past 7 years. I think you need to be in the right place at the right time. I went for what I wanted at a hiring event. The manager was impressed by my maturity at thought I would work out. However I don't think my situation is common so you might want to try get som experience in and ICU as an aid if you can. Also network at your clinicals (with nurses other than your instructor) and maybe even your insturtor can help you out with a good recommendation. Good luck with the search and your last year of school.

New Grad in PICU
I'm so excited! I was just offered a position in the PICU. This will be my first job with my career change. I have always wanted to be in Peds, but was a little discouraged when I heard stories that new grads are generally not accepted. I thought for sure I would have to do my time in another department before moving to where I really wanted to be. Well my dream has come true! I'm so thrilled to be apart of this specality of nurses. If anyone can give me some advice or words of wisdom it would be greatly appreciated!!

Passed my NCLEX RN on Aug 17 2012
Congrats! I did a similar route with the review books as you, and I agree that LaCharity is a must have! I wish I would have used it though nursing school.

NCLEX Advice Please???
I started by reading Kaplan so I knew how to answer the questions. That is really important. Then I broke it down by system. I went to a half price book store and bought a bunch of NCLEX review books and thats how I studied. I used La Charity the day before the test as a refresher so the info was fresh in my head. And I think that is a great book. I also think that you need to really dwell on infection control, delegation and prioitization. That is why La Charity is so benificial. Another good book that has good NCLEX hints is the princton review. It give things that the NCLEX is always testing on that you need to know. And believe me it was right. Good Luck!
