  1. I would notify the MD whose name she is using....I sure bet he doesn't know how out of control this person is!!
  2. I didn't even know you could get into NP school without some experience working as a nurse first?
  3. I find this disturbing since I live in America where the language spoken is English.
  4. As we are a very close group of girls who work well together, I walk into the nursery one evening and say, "what's up ******!" I then step a little closer and see a MD sitting around the corner charting. I was so embarrased I said, "omg I'm so sorry I didn't know you were sitting in here!" He says "thats ok, I think I will try saying that the next time I come in here".
  5. What do you say during a job interview when you are asked why you are looking for a new job? For me, i just want to go from a "for profit" facility to a "not for profit" facility. Is that a good enough answer?
  6. It was a TAH, and the doc that wrote the order was not on call that night so the nurse practitioner that was on delivering babies that night does not give orders on GYN pts.. I was the charge nurse that night but i was so busy! I had 2 baby's go bad and pain control issues with 2 other pts so i didnt really think this was going to be turned into the issue that it did....oh well, thanks for all the comments and i will be speaking to my manager next week! I just didnt think i had to sweat the small stuff especially since this grown woman was just admitted to be babysat anyway!
  7. Our pharmacists do not come back in after they close. I got the bottle at 8 pm and i told them it wouldnt work...they said that was all they could give me.
  8. We had a 50 year old that our gyn doc admitted the night prior to surgery for a TAH because "she couldnt be trusted to stay NPO after midnight." He ordered a betadine douche to be given at HS. The pharmacy sent up a bottle of some betadine solution in a liquid medicine bottle. I had no means to give that as directed since it was not an actual douche with a nozzle attached nor did i have any capability to safely make my own. I needless to say did not give it, told the day nurse the reason why. She was furious and waited till i got home that morning, then called me and ranted for 2 minutes on my voicemail about how furious the doctor was and that she was writing me up and didnt understand why i couldnt give it. I am not understanding how it was possible to give this as directed??? Btw our small "for profit" facility pharmacy closes at 9pm so my hands were tied except to go to my local grocery store and buy the right product myself!! This nurse who wrote me up made me feel like i killed this pt! Any advise i could get would be much appreciated!!
  9. I understand having to take call but maybe a 4 or 8 hour shift a month, but they are using an on call person who already works full time and filling in scheduling holes and not hiring more people.
  10. I would not take it personally, but welcome any orientation i could get! Sounds like you are doing great!
  11. We now have to pick up 30 hours of on-call requirements every 4 weeks! I was wondering if other people have this crazy requirement. We are short staffed so we know that when we are on call that we will be working. I think that 36 hours a week is enough work for me....after all i do have a life and a family too! I am thinking about just leaving mother/baby for good!
  12. Holy crap! That is crazy!!!! You should have 3 couplets at the very most 4! NO TECH? Thats like 10-12 pts! We have to chart, weigh babies, do pku's, get c-sections up, meds, teaching, breastfeeding assistance, more charting, call md's, not to mention if a baby goes downhill, call lights constantly going off, postpartum hemorrhage, triaging phone calls, etc..... You are not a wimp, you r OVERWHELMED!
  13. what you are experiencing is not uncommon. You will get the hang of it. Everything is brand new and please do not be so hard on yourself. 7 days is not long enough for a new graduate. hang in there! :)
  14. i don't know where your from but I don't make $50k a year to start much less after 17 years.
