I'm an LPN and LTAC , Kindred in particular, was my first job out of nursing school. I started 3weeks after graduatio nad was the first graduate nurse of any type they had ever hired. It was my job of choice beacuase of the variety of patients you take care of. I wanted to learn as much as I can.I was there for 20months and really learned a lot. Esme12 hit the nail on the head with the type of patients and how busy it is. You have to ask yourself what type of nursing you want to get into. Good luck to you!

Congrats! :yeah:3weeks after I graduated, I started working in a similar facility. The best piece of advice someone gave me was to not be afarid to ask questions. You may feel dumb asking certain questions....DON'T. The only dumb question is one you don't ask. Be a sponge and soak up as much info as you can. Lastly, don't take you work home with you. What I mean is as soon as you get to the door to leave, take a deep breath and leave what happened at work, at work. Easier said than done. After 10years of nursing, I still have to remind my self of that.This is an exciting time for you asd you should be proud of yourself. Welcome to the nurse family!

I understand your concern about retaliation however you have to look out for you.Your health comes first. Write down everything that occured that way you have a time line. If your supervisers do attempt to retaliate, you'll have what you need to defend yourself to their superiors. In every facilitiy I've worked in, there have been proceduers put into place to protect the employee form retaliation. i'm sorry that this has happened to you and I wish you the best of luck!

I have been working at the VA for a little more than 2years now. I was not a new grad when I was hired but I know of sevral new grads that they did hire. the statement that they don't hire new grads is false especially if you have prior medical experience of any type. LPN's can start as a GS4 (new grad without medical experience) and work their way up to GS6. It is definitely worth looking into. Good luck!

If you are looking to eventually move to a different state, my advice would be to look under usajobs.gov and try to find a job at a VA hospital. The reason being, once you get into the VA, if you decide to another state, you will not have to apply for a nursing liscence in that state. Your current liscence will be good in all 50 states as long as you transfer to another federal facility. Also, the benifits are awaseome. Best of luck to you! =0)
