Become a Nurse without Nursing School
Even people who are trained through University programs in different countries can't just come to the U.S. And practice as a nurse. They have to take a couple additional classes and sit for the NCLEX before they can practice. Nursing is definitely hard. However, some countries have different scopes of practice and definitions of a nurse...

Soooo discouraged:( First Med Error
Do not be so hard on yourself. Everyone makes medical errors at some point in their career. What most people don't realize is that although the individual does play a role in it, there is a system flaw or breakdown that has failed you, the nurse. Mistakes happen, we are only human. It is a great thing that no harm was done. The important part is that you learned from the mistake. I'm sure you have a lot of guilt and anxiety and that is all normal. Don't let this effect how you deliver optimal patient care in the future. Press on and learn from it! It will be okay, promise!

Advice for MSN
That was the predicament I was in as well. I chose Excelsior Colleges MSN with a specialization in nursing education program. It is affordable and I am just about finished with it and it was a great investment and I absolutely loved the program. Plus, it is all online with no quizzes or tests.

Question on reacting to tachycardic afib
I agree that it is within our scope of practice to hold a medication based on our assessments. Of course document why you held it and depending on the medication, just update the physician to cover your own self.

Question on reacting to tachycardic afib
I would be concerned that the physician is allowing the patient to stay in rapid afib with RVR. Despite the patient being asymptomatic, the tachycardia can cause other problems such as stroke and not allowing the patient's organza to get the full amount of blood due to the ventricles not having enough full time. Not only that but the patient can decompensate at any time and if they do, it will be very fast.

Fluid bolus by gravity or pump?
Gravity with a pressure bag. A lot of organizations are doing away with "gravity" boluses due to the theoretical possibly of an air embolism, of course rare. Some nurses are more comfortable using a pump for a fluid bolus.
