Patient fx hip after family refused alarm
I dont see how you can be blamed, after I read the latest. I would have insisted and documented the refusal also. I'm not a nurse (yet). The NH should have rules to protect their employees. I think the NH failed both the patient and their employees.

Are these sneakers acceptable for nursing school?
I bought Nike that are all leather and all white with a smaller black swoosh on the one side. I did see a pair of white leather nike's with a white swoosh on the side after than. I wore them for the first and second semesters so far without issue.

Grateful for male nurses!!
I'm glad to see that male nurses are well accepted. My clinical experience so far has me throughly convinced that I am on the right path, even at 48. I probabaly have 20 years or so to give. I have 3 semesters left before my ADN and then only the nursing related classses for my BSN (I plan to be working as an RN in between). I have no doubts about my decision.

Internal Fetal Monitoring
I'm in my summer OB class, and reading the book about fetal monitoring. In the book, it has an image showing the attachment of a spiral electrode to the scalp, but it stops short of saying just how the spiral electrode remains attached. It leads me to believe that it is basically screwed in to the presenting part. Can someone tell me more about this? What effect does it have on the fetus? Thank you.

Fifty-four and I start school on Monday
I started prereq's at 46 - almost 3 years ago, I have three semesters left for my ADN, and whatever it takes for my BSN. I am one of the older students (not the oldest) and being a male, I am really the minority. I realized that I need to keep learning and progressing to a goal so as not to stagnate. I am very happy with my decision to do this and with my progress as well. Good luck to you.

Some guidance and advice needed please
I got my first associates degree from a larger public college, the second one at a community college and I'm in the nursing program there now. (3 semesters to go!) Being an older student myself, I would agree to take your pre-req's right where you are. Dont wait for an uncertain future move to happen or not happen. There are definite price advantages to a community college for pre-req's too.

Not sure this is for me....
I did enjoy working at the LTC facility, but I knew I was not going to be there long term. It is not what I was meant to do. I am in my second semester and still going. There are so many avenues that you could take. If you're like me, you did not choose nursing, it chose you. Good Luck Charles

For pre nursing students
Good luck to you. Glad you are sticking with it. I waited a 'few' years to figure out what I wanted to do with my life (I'm 48). Started classes for pre-req's in 2009 and just finished my first semester as a student nurse. Now I have this summer to get through with a light load only 4 credit hours, however the next five weeks is the 3 credit hour OB class. Going to be a tough one for sure. On my current pace, I will be done with school Dec 2013. So only 3 semesters after summer classes are over. I need to balance work with school and I do not currently work in the medical field. You sound like you're doing this for all the right reasons and I wish you well. Never give up on your dreams.
