  1. For me...Yes. I never studied in LVN school and passed with a 3.0 and now I am in my second half of my first semester of my LVN to RN program and I am hitting the books. The content is the same, but they require to think deeper and know a lot more.
  2. I took the exam yesterday after studying on and off for 7 days.. 3 hours or less a day. My AITS was 70.0% Reading 83.3% Math 73.3% Science 56.3% English 70.0% I used the practice exams in the ATI study guide and the 2 online practice exams. My score for PE A was 74.7% and PE B was a 64%. I am over the moon.. I am so bad at test taking and I let my nerves get the best of me... I am not happy with my score..But, it is high enough for my ASN program that starts next month.. God is amazing all the time and I have a great support system of family and friends.. I also love this site.. Many of nights I stayed up looking for encouragement on this long road... Thanks to all members and let heal the world!!!
  3. Please do not take it personal.. I too did the same thing.. I went out and meet with the dept. managers at the places I wanted to work..Handed them my resume and other stuff.. all were very impressed by my effort to come in and meet with them..all sent my stuff to HR...all knew that I was a new grad with no LVN experience.. I got a call from HR to come in and test for the job.. I was sooo excited that my hard work paid off.. I took the test on accident for MA..and passed it with a 96% and also took the test for LVN and passed with the same score.. I was then taken into a recruiters office and stat down and asked about my education background, my prior work experiences, ect.. I did well in my mind.. all to be told by the recruiter that I needed at least 6 months of experience to be looked at..and all the managers were impress with me..but next time do not go and speak with them.. I need to come thru HR instead.. and sent on my way home...jobless and hours of my time, gas and energy wasted... That was in July.. so I hit the ground running and got hired on doing flu clinics at 2 different agencies and then got a job as a school nurse.. I am just waiting to hit my 6 month mark so I can march back into that HR office with my head high and go get the job I should have had in July.. Good luck and do not give up..
  4. Thanks for the advice.. I did get offered the job with more hours and I accepted it. My current job was super understanding and wished me all the best.. I feel so blessed in this economy to have a pick at some jobs rather than none at all.
  5. I agree with the above poster..it's either a really good sign or really bad.. you can do the trick by trying to register to take the exam again..if it brings you to the credit card page and lets you pay again..you did not pass.. if it give you a message to contact your nursing board as you have recently taken this exam..YOU PASSED.. I am sure congrats are in order..keep us posted.
  6. BrandonLPN..thanks for the reply..yes it is all in the same district, but different school. I just started the other position this week and I guess I am struggling with that fact of just starting and being trained and then leaving for more hours... I did the interview today and it went well and I was informed that is it going to be closer to 30 hours a week instead of the posted 20 hours. It will be with special ed and 1:1 care for a student vs..where I am now is with 3 dm students and working on being able to staff the health office and the 3 dm students, but only 16 hours a week...
  7. So I just started a job as a school nurse and I had a call today, coming from the same school district that I just hired into asking me to come interview for a position at a different school. My issue is that the new school that just called offers a few more hours per week, 3.5 more to be exact. If offered the other job, should I decline it and stay where I have just started or take more hours? If take more hours, how do I tell the job I just started? Thanks for your advice.
  8. I am also an LVN in the Bay Area. I guess you answered your question as far as what is the difference between the two, one is an AS degree and the other is a BS degree in Nursing. In Northern Cali you have several options of doing your LVN to BSN..CSUEB is one of them that you did not list. You do not need to have a number of hours as an LVN, just hold your license and you are allowed to apply. The other difference is the amount of time to get your degree. Most lvn to asn programs allow you to come in at the 2nd year of an ASN program, making you have to finish only 2 semesters or 8 months to become an RN. The BSN program are a bit longer, as for the higher degree you need more units. Good luck on your choice. I will be applying to an ASN program, do the 2 semester and finish my BSN online. I don't care for school much and my life is pretty crazy so the more time I have outside of school is better for me.
  9. I am in Ca. I had a background issue with an infraction for disturbing the peace. The board had to finish their review prior to releasing my plastic license or a temp. I got my letter requesting additional info from the court in March of 2012. I set my exam for April 27 and my file was approved once they had my results showing that I passed. I got the ok from the board on May 6th and I drove to Sacramento the next business day and paid via check in person. I walked out with my temp license and my hard plastic came in the mail about a week later. So..over all.. the process took about 2 week after they had my passing results..on top of the 2 months they had my additional info from the court. Hope this info helps..but remember, they take each case on a solo basis and your could take a different amount of time. Good luck.
  10. Congrats..that is the good pop up.. I it accurate.. every person I know that has used it, the outcome was the same. As long as it says results delivered and then you try to re- register and you get that pop up..you are golden. I tried less than 1 hour after testing and I got the good pop up and my name was on the BON site 2 days later, here in CA. Now start the job of job hunting.. Best of luck and have a great weekend.
  11. I agree..let them tell you no before you assume you total out of the game. Brush up and go impress them in person. Best of luck.
  12. Med Surg is the foundation to all other nursing..In this you get to learn about the body's systems and how one works with the other. You lean a majority of your skills, cath insertion, injections, chest tubes, NG , and the list goes on depending on your program. I had the most fun here, but my passion is L&D or Oncology. Good luck and you can do it..
  13. I would jump all over the school job.. if the money is the same and commute is shorter and you get benefits...I say go for it.. The surgeon office sounds good, but you will do a lot of front office work and I am not sure if that is what you are looking for.
  14. I agree with the other posters. I went to school in S.F. and lived in Oakland and my commute was WAY longer than 20-30min.. I had to be at school by 8am in SF... If I did not pick up carpoolers to cross the bay bridge, I would have to leave my house at 6am. If you pick up carpoolers, then the HOV land moves quicker, but still longer than 20 min. Bart is good, but you have to make time for breakdowns, as they do happen from time to time and that will ruin your commute. I would say live in Oakland, near Kaiser. As long as you stay away from area below Macarthur Blvd in East Oakland, you should be fine. Above Macarthrur Blvd in East Oakland, Peidmont, some parts of West Oakland, North Oakland and Downtown you should like and your commute will be a lot easier and cheaper. Good Luck..
  15. Inside your packet should have been a book that breaks down the areas of the exam. The exam is national so the topics you get can differ from the next person and the level of difficulty can also differ, as the exam is a CAT test that changes to adapt to your level of knowledge. I took my exam in CA in April and I have not 1 drug dose, no maternity, no drag and drop. I passed the 1st time with 85 questions. I had a lot of SATA, isolations, delegation and med question about which med to not give based on the info given about a patient. My friend took the exam in Feb and had all the questions that the exam had. She had very different questions from mine, and she passed. I say study your content, know your lab values for Chem, CBC, and toxic levels and s/s and side effect of medications and your basic nursing core facts, and you will do fine. Good luck.
