Northeastern Hybrid Direct Entry Nursing Spring 2014
Hi bdw1001, Congrats on your acceptance! I am currently in the program, and it's been ok. You said that you will be living in Beverly. For exams that is perfect because they are all at the Burlington location. Labs are held in Boston. However, clinical is a different story. Even though you live in Beverly you may have clinical as far out as Brockton. Also, I am not sure what your post- BSN plans are, but the only real "direct entry" offered is the Administration/ Management degree. The Neonatal NP requires 2 years of clinical RN experience. They told us Psych will be an option once we finish, but we have not heard anything about that. Many of us have contacted the directors of the on ground NP programs and were told that they are not accepting any more students, or that the Masters specialties are not available to Burlington students.

Hi Adventure780- I have been doing some research on this new program. It seems like a good program, but is expensive, just like most of the nursing programs in the area. If you contact the admissions department, they are really helpful and more than happy to answer all questions. They are willing to walk you through the application process, if you need help.

Hi Kristenk64, Congrats on your acceptance! My biggest advice would be to keep up with your assignments, or even ahead if you can. This program is very fast paced. Even though the lectures are online you will be meeting at least three times a week (lab, clinical, and exams). Also, try to find a study buddy, and yes payless shoes are fine as long as they're all white and comfortable because you will be on your feet all day during clinical.

Hi Celticsgirl17, The program is really fast paced, so it's important to be organized and self- disciplined. I would suggest learning medical terminology, dosages, and investing in a NANDA book beforehand. It wasn't required but you will find it VERY useful. I cannot comment on clinicals because they do not start until next week, but the placements this semester are really good. Our cohort has lab every Saturday and exams Wednesday, the first is tomorrow.

The clinical schedule was sent to our neu email. It also said that our lab schedule will be given to us at orientation.

Did anyone who placed an order on prep day receive your uniform and supplies yet?

Cc1031- I plan on driving. I wouldn't take the train from tf. It would take longer and probably cost more. People that commute to Boston from RI usually leave from downtown or drive to Attleboro and take the train from there.

Congrats cc1031 and bigeyes4! Bigeyes4 I live in Providence too, next to RIC. I don't plan on moving since we'll only need to be there 3 days a week. :)

We were told that we do not get to pick anything as far as the schedule goes, all of that will be done for us. Clinicals will be once a week m, t, or thurs. The lab will be on Saturday in Boston for 3 hours, and tests will be Wed in Burlington, whenever we have scheduled exams. Because its pretty late, the only source of fin aid you can receive through NU is the federal loans from filing fafsa. They did say that you can request to be put on the waitlist for NU sponsored loans and scholarships because students may drop between now and sept. There is a $30 lab supply bag that you can purchase at the next orientation. You will need all white sneakers or nursing shoes, a stethoscope, bandage scissors, penlight, and a name pin that can be purchased from the uniform place in NH.

I'm going to apply to RI student loans, they offer a nursing/primary care student forgiveness loan and repayment program.

I would prefer the earliest lab and 1-7 clinical.

Celticsgirl17- if you'll have everything completed on time, there's another cohort starting in January. Yes, labs will be in Boston on Saturdays, well at least for our cohort. 3 classes during the RN portion are at the grad level, so you'll need to earn a B or better. The rest are undergrad courses so you'll need to get a C or better.
