  1. Does anyone know if this hospital has a nursing union. Also what the pay rate is?
  2. As others have stated this has nothing to do with any legislation. The push towards bachelor's prepared nurses is due to the 2010 IOM report on the recommendations for the future of nursing. As well as hospitals pushing for Magnet status.
  3. I have not signed paperwork yet. However, I did contact HR regarding relocation assistance and they offer up to $1500 for expenses (hotel, plane ticket or gas, car rental, food, shipping and first months rent) but everything needs to be purchased in your name. They told me to bring the receipts to the HR dept some time after my first day to fill out the paperwork and they would then reimburse me. Im coming from out of state- not sure if that makes a difference. Hope that helps! Ps: did you already sign paperwork? I have yet to hear anything...
  4. I was told by the PICU nurse manager that she believed August 13th is when orientation started
  5. UCLA here I come.... all the way from WI. I got an offer from the PICU today and I know no one in the area so be my friend :)
  6. so keep your head up!
  7. I was only on the phone with her briefly so I'm not sure, but I literally got the call only minutes ago and I heard from an internal that they were looking to hire a bunch of people for the PICU
  8. Just received an offer from UCLA !!!!!
  9. My best advice is NETWORK! Figure out anyone you know who is a nurse and try and get your foot in the door with their help. Also revamp your resume, include specific skills you have done in your different clinical rotations, this way your future employer will see that they don't need to start from square one that you DO have skills! PRACTICE your interview questions, there are millions online (I recommend Johns Hopkins' practice questions- google it). WHEN you land an interview, wear a suit, hair pulled back so it's not distracting, don't bring your pursue...be professional bring a briefcase with multiple copies of your resume ready on professional resume paper. I also put together a portfolio which included letters of recommendation, transcripts, professional goals, clinical research projects, professional objective, etc. In your interview focus on teamwork, patient safety and patient advocacy. Also come up with at least 5 great questions for the nurse manager or HR so they know you are interested and serious about this job. Lastly, be flexible. I was told that you are 5 jobs away from your dream job. As a new grad in this market you can not afford to be picky. This may mean relocating, working in a clinic, nursing home or a floor you aren't in love with (although, don't tell that to your future nurse manager of course!) This is coming from someone who will graduate with her BSN this Sat the 19th and I have had 2 interviews and 1 job offer and the other offer still pending. If you have any other questions I am more than willing to share my tips/tricks for landing a job.
  10. No it's in Chicago. I'm from the midwest.
  11. Good Luck! Be confident :)
  12. I'm dying to know... I actually received another offer from another hospital in their NICU (yay).. but UCLA is my first choice and I have to decide by Friday!!! Crossing my fingers we hear verrrryy soon.
  13. @Sally- so you're friend heard that rumor about PICU or peds? Now I'm getting worried!
  14. Congrats jesusgal1023 & cocojnel. I have my second interview Friday morning! Praying for that informal interview :)
  15. @cocojnel- also I noticed that you interviewed on the later date... did you perhaps see how many people they interviewed in your group. There was about 25 that interviewed in our first group from what I "guesstimated" by looking at her sheet.
