I don't think 10 is too many. You might find over the course of your interview that some of your questions are answered without even having to ask them. Make sure to leave space to jot down answers/notes and any follow up questions that you might get on the spot. Good luck!

Hi there, I recently went through the same interviewing process and will be starting a perioperative residency shortly. DanielOR_RN covered a lot of the same questions I received. One of the first questions the panel asked was what I thought a perioperative nurse did. It seems like such an obvious question, but it's definitely worth practicing your answer for that one ahead of time. Before I was done I also made sure to ask how my progress would be monitored and if there were formal and informal evaluations so I would know if I was on the right track.

The work is hard, but it's not impossible either. The most important thing is you find what works for you and stick with it. What works for you and what works for the people on either side of you in lecture might not be the same, and that's ok! Here are a few things that worked for me and please feel free to message me privately if you want more in-depth info or idea. - Keep up with the reading as best as you can. I found it worked to skim/do a light reading of that week's topic prior to the lecture, then after the lecture go back in an do an in-depth reading so I could add to my lecture notes/ppts - Study with NCLEX style questions. I found putting material into context helped me understand a bunch of it better. It will also help you get used to the type of questions they'll ask on tests. - If the instructors provide a case study with their lecture DO IT! They will be somewhat time consuming, but completely worth it. - Along the same note, if there's a case study or study guide to complete for lab make sure you do it prior to your class section. - Take advantage of open lab periods when the tutors are there. You don't have to work with them, but they're always willing to help. It's really tempting to leave for the day after classes, but spending time here and there during the semester working on your skills will pay off in clinical. You'll also avoid the massive crowds the week before skills check-out at the end of the semester. Like I said, feel free to message me if you have any more questions or want me to give more examples. You're welcome! There really wasn't much variety in terms of class times. Lecture was on Monday and Tuesdays at 8am. The schedule was divided into two week blocks, so for example, one week classroom A would be focusing on one subject, while classroom B would be getting a different subject. The next week the instructors would switch rooms and teach. So when picking lecture classes it doesn't really make much of a difference. The same is true when picking a clinical section. It has nothing to do with where you go and who you end up with, so just pick whatever is open or available. Where you do get some choice is seminar and lab. I don't remember if first year everyone had seminar on the first day or not, so it might not even matter that much. I opted for a Monday lab time which meant I had Wednesdays completely free which is nice if you want a little free time in your week (for studying, family, or work) or if you have to take any other science classes and need to factor those into your schedule. Keep in mind all of this could have changed in the last couple of years since I graduated, but probably not too much.

I graduated, passed my boards, immediately entered an RN-BSN program for one year, and now I'm about to start a new grad residency program at a major hospital/health system in the area. I wish I had been able to work right out of the CCP programs, but health reasons delayed that. That said, focusing on getting the BSN full time meant I was eligible for most new grad programs requiring a BSN.

Hey all, Congratulations on getting in! CCP was a great program and I'm glad I went there for my initial nursing education. Unless they've changed a ton since I started (in 2012) you'll probably get more information about orientation later in the spring. It was mid/end of May when my class had ours. They'll walk you through all the things you need to complete and let you know when you need to have it filled out. This includes health forms/vaccines, signing up for classes, background checks, and signing up for a drug test. We also had the opportunity to try on and order our uniforms that afternoon as well. There's really not a ton you can do but sit and wait until you get more information from them. The only thing I would make sure to be aware of is the vaccination titers. Start saving your pennies now if you think paying for them is going to be an issue, because they're usually not covered by insurance, but that would be the case wherever you ended up going to nursing school. The best piece of advice I can give that I don't think I've seen mentioned on here is pay attention to e-mails and online announcements from your instructors/department. From the start the instructors in my program were very clear about using e-mail and online class related message boards for communicating and making last minute changes and announcements. Saying "I don't know, I never checked" is not acceptable. It's on us to be checking, sometimes a couple times a day, to see if there's something important we need to know. I don't know if all programs are like this, but there's a good chance at least the email part will be true. Stay on top of checking those type of things and it will help you stay on top of everything else. There's very little excuse for not at least trying to keep up with when your instructors decide to deviate from the syllabus or whatever else they might throw your way. Good luck!

We must learn IV stuff at some point. It looks like weeks 8 and 9 are when we cover that in lab. We might not do all of it in the first semester, but I don't see how we would get away with never doing it.

So far so good. I like my teachers so far and the material, but getting used to the reading load is taking some getting used to. All my organization is starting to pay off, though. I take back my asking how you saw! I just checked the list. I'm also at Einstein with Elaine Kemp as my clinical instructor.

Speaking of seminar, is it just me or is the information we need for that not on the webstudy site? It was last night, but when I got home today all the seminar related stuff disappeared.

I'm also nervous and exited for tomorrow! Everything just got real. I was also able to access the webstudy material(not sure if it's because I've already taken an online class or if it works for everyone.) They have more information and reading lists on there if anyone sees this before tomorrow and wants to take a peek.

I just came on here to post that. I don't know what made me check again, but I'm glad I did.

I know we'll have to do the reading eventually, so when it gets done isn't really my issue. I'm just more concerned with the fact that they didn't make an announcement or note that they amended the reading list. Oh well. On a side note, I ended up getting the study guides that came with the Weber and Potter & Perry textbooks. I've found they're a big help when it comes to deciding what to highlight and pull out of the reading for notes. I'm not suggesting everyone rush out and get them, but if anyone is interested maybe I can make some copies or scan the pages before I write on them if you guys are interested. I've found one for the pharmacology text that I might try and order too, but might hold off until after classes start.

Have any of you started the reading yet? It looks like the list they originally put up on the group site changed and all the readings from the Potter and Perry text were removed for the first week. On one hand I'm not complaining, because that's a huge chunk of reading that's been eliminated and the page numbers weren't lining up with the assigned chapters. On the other hand I don't want to not do it and be under-prepared come that first Thursday. I'm going to try and e-mail someone at the school tomorrow, but maybe one of you know what the deal is.

That was what I was thinking when I picked the color. I kept reading stories from people about stethoscopes disappearing that I figured why not get something I know I'll like and will be less likely to leave with someone else.

I got a pink/"raspberry" colored one. I'm assuming they can be any color you want them to be since they're going to be yours for however long and getting one that you know you can ID is a plus. Can you imagine if we all had identical stethoscopes?

All white shoes. I wound up getting a pair of all white nike air max 90s they were on the more expensive side and in mens, but I knew what I was getting into since I've had to do the size conversions before and AM90s are hands down the most comfy pairs of shoes I have EVER EVER EVER owned in my life. I decided it was worth it. I know feet and comfort levels are different, but I've worn this model(but in different colors/patterns) for 8 and 12 hour shifts that involved a lot of standing and walking and I felt ok with my decision.

The neverending uniform struggle continues. After no sign of any package yesterday I checked the tracking info and there was a delivery confirmation. After checking with my neighbors I called UPS and they basically said, "Sorry, but you'll have to get the sender to trace it for you." I know this isn't Advance's fault, but it still sucks and I'd like to know where to package could have gone to/been delivered by mistake.

I checked it again this morning and it said it was on the truck and would be delivered by the end of the day, go figure. I hope it's the same deal for you too.

I ordered online June 2nd and received a call from the people at Advance last Monday(the 4th) telling me everything was back ordered and wouldn't be shipping out until the 19th. Then Friday I get the e-mail notification that it's shipped, but according to the UPS tracking records it's just the mailing label that's been created. I'm not overly concerned about it, but I would like it to arrive so I can try on the actual shirt with an undershirt of sorts and make any exchanges if needed.

Yes, you use the same book and the same lab book for both 109 and 110. In 109 you go from chapter 1(levels of organization/cell and chemistry review) through 18(the endocrine system). In 110 you start back up at chapter 19(blood) and end at the end of the book with the reproductive system/development. That said, depending on who you have as a teacher you might cover different chapters more in depth than others and only sort of deal with some of them in your labs. Good luck! Thank you! I ended up ordering the ones that we're supposed to order along with my shirts and all. I figured I'd wait and see once we started how strict they were about the bottoms being different before getting a different pair or being stuck without. Have you or anyone else thought about shoes yet?

Where are you guys getting the alternate scrub pants from? I remember hating the ones they had from orientation when I tried them on, but if I can get away with not having to go that route I might.
