Tottie I just finished transitions, one small paper (2-3pgs), one larger paper (6-8pgs), another assignment that was kind of fun, and then the weekly postings. It wasn't bad, I made an A...the hardest thing for me was that the holidays were happening during it, and after having already completed an LPN program and an ADN program in the past, I started to question why i was putting myself through the work of school again when all i really wanted to do was get out into the mall and enjoy the holiday spirit and do some shopping. But otherwise, it is very do-able to focus on a single class when you work full time. I start Soc on Jan 4, and have so far logged on and looked at the class a bit (what is available, the syllabus and stuff), it looks like a little more work but interesting subject matter. A lot of reading it seems. Maybe we'll be in the same class?!? I have 27 credits to go!!! PS, I graduated with my LPN in '97 and my ADN in 2000, so it's been a while for me too, my paper writing skills are still rusty lol.

I start my 1st Chamberlain on line class jan 4 for my BSN
Congrats, I just finished Prof. transitions, and will be taking cultural diversity for session B starting Jan 4, maybe we'll be in the same class :). Transitions wasn't bad, interesting subject matter. I did have to write a few papers though. I am pretty confident in my grade, should make an A when I get this weeks points for discussion threads. Hardest thing for me was having a class right before the holidays, when I am working full time and all I want to do in my off time is sleep, shop and wrap presents, not write term papers lol. otherwise, it was great.

Question for my Chamberlain RN-BSN peeps ...
Good luck Lunah, I've just gotten started, and am loving taking 1 course per session... but I may get anxious to get it done at some point, and start doubling up also. I work 530am to 2-3pm 5 days a week, so one class is really plenty for now. Let us know how your combinations pair up!

Chamberlain RN to BSN
I have a question, wonder if anyone computer savvy can help me out... My instructor says our Professional Topic Paper must be submitted in WORD only, Office 2007. I have Microsoft WORD, Office 2007 installed on my laptop, but I was planning on using PERRLA to write my paper. When I was testing out PERRLA, the program states there is a bug when saving documents that corrupts them, so you must save them as Word 97-2003 documents. So.... is my instructor hip to the PERRLA program and discouraging its' use? or will it matter if I have them typed in Word 2007 but saved in Word 97-2003? I'm a little confused by this. Can anyone enlighten me? Have other instructors mentioned similar requirements?

So far so good, I wonder if we're in the same class?? Week one is great, I'm looking at week 2 and having a little confusion over using the library search engine to find an article from a nursing journal though, I've never had to do that before, Last time I went to school my journal articles were on paper pages lol. How's it going for you?

Chamberlain is somehwat pricey, but I am starting today, and so far the first course looks very, very good. I love the format of Chamberlain, with the two 8 week sessions. By the looks of it, it is just what I was hoping for, and personally I'm happy to pay for a good program that is going to meet all of my needs and provide me with a good education. I'm looking at it that way, rather than thinking I could get it for less money (but at what price to my lifestyle?). That helps me to justify the cost. Just food for thought :)

Thanks for the info on the PERRLA Christy, I went and downloaded it and it's amazing :). Did you also buy the apa book? I think I should buy it as a reference, but just wondered if others might think it a waste of money if using PERRLA.

Chamberlain RN to BSN
Hi Everyone, I am also taking transitions 351 starting monday the 26th. I've already been in the course, read the assignment for week one and was debating posting on the discussion threads, but I keep chickening out lol. I just keep freezing when I try to think of a critical experience or whatever that first question is calling for, I start to answer and then think that I really should pick a better patient scenario....then I can't think of one that will be good to use lol. I guess I'm just a little nervous to get started. I have used angel before, a little bit (at OU college of nursing, for about 2 weeks before I realized it was a rediculously BUSY program for a working nurse and withdrew), so I'm navigating it pretty well. I posted a bio about me on the course roster, if you want to look at it go for it!! look forward to getting to know you all a bit here and there, so we can go through it together :). Nancy D.

Thanks Sue, I appreciate your insight :). I will be starting next monday, yay!!! I'm taking NR351 Transitions in session A and Socs350 Cultural Diversity in session B. Is there a list of elective type classes I can look at to pick my last class? I got a little freaked out when I first heard about all the papers, I thought about picking Kaplan... SOOO glad I researched so many options and did not. Of all the programs I researched, Chamberlain met the most of my needs and I have worked with the nicest, most polite people who have taken excellent care of me. Some of my coworkers think I'm making a poor choice to spend twice as much as the local state colleges, but I have told them I'm willing to pay for the convenience and enjoyment of not having to run around with clinicals or do big group projects... I'm going to do it the way I want to do it, by studying and enjoying the process, not being stressed out for months on end like LPN and RN school. I've already done nursing "school" twice, now I want to enjoy the learning!

Ahh, Thanks for the heads up Lunah :). As for the financial aid Shawn, I just did a fafsa and am taking more student loans out. Who are you working with? I'm working with Josh, and he's outstanding. Are you going to be able to have everything together for the Oct 26th start? I'm starting with professional transitions, maybe we'll be in class together...well, figuratively speaking lol.

Thanks for all the info Lunah. Can you give me any ideas of what some of these papers everyone talks about are like? Do they give you topics? Questions to answer? Is there a lot of research involved? etc. Just curious as to what lies ahead, I haven't written a college paper in 10 years, I WILL be one of the rusty ones lol.

I found out today that Chamberlain accepted all of my transfer credits, so I came in 2 under the required 32!!! My financial aid is set, I'm ready to start on the 26th, as soon as I fill out the enrollment paperwork and fax it back to Josh. I'm excited to get going finally!! Can anyone tell me about the Professional Transitions course? Josh is recommending that I start with this course.

BSN or training certifications? More competitive/competent in L&D?
I think the BSN is really going to be important for any MSN degree. I am about to begin my RN-BSN program so I can learn how to write research papers, in addition to the leadership learning. I did plenty of projects and presentations in my ADN courswork, but never did a formal research paper using APA style.

Now I need to get my posting numbers up so I can PM people!!! lol. I had started just this last August at the OU RN-BSN career mobility track, but I withdrew within the first 2 weeks so was able to withdraw completely. It threw a few glitches into my FAFSA, because I had to repay 100% of my loans (which I had already done) but my fafsa showed that i had already received disbursement of funds and was ineligible for more. It was pretty easily straightened out though, the bursars office at OU wrote a letter to the school and gave me a copy too, stating that all of my funds had been returned. Did you apply anywhere else DD? I was looking at Excelsior and Kaplan, but after researching them both I saw way too many red flags at Kaplan, and noticed that some of the Excelsior credits weren't recognized (somewhere, by someone, I don't recall who or what organization lol, I have been to countless sights including the BBB digging up info). Chamberlain was not pushy, Josh spent about an hour on the phone with me explaining everything, answered all of my questions and was really nice. I can't wait to get started, I was in pure school mode in August, and it felt like the rug was pulled out from under me when OU didn't work out.

Hi DD, Yes, Hopefully I'll be starting Oct. 26th too!!! My financial aid is ready, we are just waiting for my WSU transcripts to arrive, allegedly they mailed them on the 25th of Sept. Josh was going to reorder them if they weren't here by monday. My ADN transcripts have arrived though, so he said even without the WSU I can probably get started and they would adjust my program once they received it. Hopefully it will be soon, I did 4 years at WSU and that's a lot of the non-nursing credits... I think I will be somewhat like you Lunah, will probably not need more than about 30 and will end up picking up an elective or so to get my 32 credits. It's exciting to hear someone else is going to be in the program with me!!!

this is my first post, so bear with me. I am planning to start Chamberlain RN-BSN online in a few weeks, I keep reading about lots of papers to write. I'm ok with writing the papers, but can anyone tell me more about the classes? Are there any lectures online to supplement the reading assignments? I'm pretty excited, I've looked at a lot of online and local schools, and this looked like the best format to me, with the split session semesters... I think that's such a neat idea! I always wished that I could take one class at a time when I was a full time student in the past. I am transferring in a lot of credits, did anyone have any issues with this process? Any other information you can give me about the program, I would love to hear it Oh, and I see a lot of people asking others to private message them for more info, how do you private message someone??? Thanks!!
