I want to be an ICU nurse, but cant..
For me that's a pretty lousy excuse for not placing you as an ICU nurse. I'd rather accept it if the reason why they won't put me in the ICU would be my lack of experience. If your Chief Nurse is worried about Nepotism and stuffs wouldn't the HR personnel be the one to handle those issues? or a committee formed by the hospital? On the other hand, It really depends on the hospital policy. I don't really know how your hospital works neither do i know your policies. So I can't really say anything obsolete about that issue because hospitals do differ from one another. As for your question I am thinking of 2 answers and it all ends up to a yes. 1. Yes, it depends on the hospital that your entering, some hospitals look at the length of experience, credentials and assess you during the interview (some even ask what area you would prefer to work in). If they deem that you are ready they MIGHT give you a position as an ICU nurse. 2.No, especially if they require a 1 to 2-year experience in an ICU set up. You may be hired as a Med-Surge nurse but eventually CAN be transferred to the ICU when there is an opening (for such to happen you must excel in the med surg area) My Advice would be: - Do good in the Med-Surge area since you were already assigned there, gain as much experience and confidence as you can. And remember that all ICU nurses, as far as I'm concerned, were previously medical surgical nurses, when they were in their entry level. The good news is you know what kind of nurse you would like to be so you wouldn't have trouble in raising your credentials, attend extra seminars and training that would lead you to becoming an ICU nurse. I hope this can help you :) Goodluck and Godbless!

nursing career
Hi there random nurse I'm very sorry to hear that. But truth to be told being a nurse is a gruesome experience here in the philippines. I have been a volunteer and trainee for 3 years. Yes I have waited that long to be in my current status. I graduated 2009 and had my license the same year. I even graduated from one of the top nursing schools in the philippines. Every time I go to duty during those days i'd always be optimistic and think that money spent on training/volunteer will be my investment because I really wanted to become a nurse. Money wise - i did part time jobs like being an encoder, tutoring mathematics and grab other opportunities that I can to have an income. Now I have recently resigned as a senior staff nurse from my previous hospital to start in another hospital :) Be optimistic, rather than being miserable take everything in and enjoy. The most important part is learning in the process :) Also Try other branches of nursing s/a Clinic nurse Research nurse Clinical trial nurse Nurse phlebotomist Search for others hospital isnt the only set up for nurses :)) I hope my story would inspire you. And please dont fake your documents

nursing career
Hey there! Its a very wrong move to fake your documents. The middle east are becoming alert these days. Just a month a go someone called our chief nurse from riyadh to verify the nursing experience and it turned out the 5 of the certifications were fake. We never knew what happened to those nurses. So please refrain from faking your documents. It's never too late to start a career in a hospital setting. All it takes are patience and prayers. Goodluck!

IV TRAINING locations (when/where) metro manila
Dr. Fe del Mundo Medical Center in Banawe, Quezon City always conducts IVT every quarter of the year. Most slots are available since the hospital WAS popular. Anyways just call them up. The organizers and the Trainors are really friendly plus the Chief Nurse is really great she personally monitors the progress of the trainees herself and gives encouragement to new nurses.

Community nursing for abroad
Hi there alyalkholifi! As far as I know the experience can be considered but with very little chances of hiring. According to my mom (she used to be a community nurse in Manila) when she was applying for a job in UK she realized that it was really tough for her to get a job considering she got more than 10 years experience. But my mom found a way when someone told her that she should write communicable disease nurse instead of community nurse on all her resume and applications... I hope this bit of story helps By the way my mom has been working in Ireland as a rehab nurse for an Irish Gov't Hospital for more than years now and she's about to retire. She also became an Irish citizen. Altough the economy is not doing good in Ireland now a days :'(
