There are scholarships and grants available if you qualify. The one thing that many people are afraid to consider but makes getting a degree very possible, is financial aid. The Federal Stafford Loan is a loan through the government. You do not start paying them back until 6 months after you graduate or drop out. There is the subsidized one in which the gov't pays the interest while you're in school. In other words, interest does not accumulate while you're in school.There is the unsubsidized one and that one the interest starts accumulating as soon as you get the loan. You can take out both loans if you need it. If you're a freshman and took out both loans, the max you could get annually is $6,625, sophomore is $7,500, and Junior and seior gets $10,500. I took both loans as the full amount and I now have my BS degree. You'll have to most likely attend college full-time in order to get the loan. Just contact the financial aid office at the school you want to attend and they'll get you started :wink2: It's within reach and well worth it! Most PA programs require you to have some sort of health care experience and thus having a nursing background would be great. The thing to keep in mind is that most PA programs are now masters programs and most of them, if not all of them, require you to have a bachelors degree. Also, most programs have prereqs that include two semesters of general chem with a lab, two semesters of general biology with lab and some require upper level bio and chem classes. You'll have to do some research on the PA schools you want to attend and plan your undergrad around that. I believe many nursing schools require intro to chem but if I were you, I would take general chem in place of that, but again it depends on what the PA schools require. I've never been through a nursing program so I really don't know just how difficult they are. My sister is an ICU nurse and I know it was very tough for her and she had a 4.0 when she entered the nursing program. I think if it's something you really want to do and you have a lot of drive, you'll be successful. Good Luck!

For many years now I've come to believe that no hell exists. In order for me to believe that a God of pure love exists, I can't also see him as a God who would create such a place. I'm probably going to hear it from everyone now! I really hope I'm right because when I hear about beings in black robes and those on their deathbeds horrified about something evil taking them, it starts putting doubt in my mind. But then I start questioning whether God is a God of love and that resolves the problem for me. I think those that fight their death in the end may just be fighting the fear of the unknown and/or fighting because they just don't want to leave yet.

TsunamiKim I don't know anything about arbitrations but how can it be legally binding if one of the parties is unaware that it's binding? Shouldn't you have been asked to sign a document stating that you knowingly give up your right to ever present your case in court? I truly am sorry for what happened to you. I really hope there's a way to fix all of this!

Oh, one other thing...if there is more than one chem instructor at your school, ask around and see who everyone recommends. You may even check to see if student evaluations are available for you to read. An instructor that has high marks from previous students, will go a long way in your success in chemistry. I'm not saying it'll be easier, but some instructors are just more talented in explaining difficult concepts than others.

Study groups can be an excellent way to work on hard concepts, if you just can't seem to understand it on your own. For me though, study groups slowed me down. What I ended up doing was working problems over and over. For each exam preparation, I would write all the formulas I was going to be tested on, on one sheet. It kept everything in one location. I also seemed to notice patterns with some of the formulas just by having them altogether. If you have a full-time schedule, you may want to go part-time while taking chemistry. I know I'm probably not being very helpful. Chemistry is just a pain in the @ss and the only way to succeed in it is to spend a lot of time on it. If you can understand the concepts, it'll get you a lot further than just memorizing. Where there is a will, there is a way!Good luck!

Bipley, You make me proud! This girl probaby felt so alone before you came along. If she felt she was doomed to suffer this for the rest of her life, she may have even contemplated suicide. There is a study guide for the ACS exam and I highly recommend it. I'm very surprised that your instructor did not offer to order them for you guys! What better way to prepare for a national exam than by using their study guide! The exam is very tough and our instructor told us that he would not be able to cover everything that was going to be tested on that exam. I'm not sure you'd have time to use it even if you ordered it now. Maybe your library has one or if you have a science learning center, they may have one. i'm sorry to hear about your situation. i'm not sure if this will help but it might in the future. uccs has a nursing program (beth-el college of nursing and health sciences) and it also has a family developement center on the campus, which takes children starting at 1 years old. i'm not sure how this would work for you, but it would be a place where you could put your child while you're in class or at your clinicals. if the gi bill doesn't cover all of this, you could probably even get a job on the campus. they have a health center there that might be able to use your skills from your current program. i graduated in may from that school with a bs in health sciences. i loved it and colorado springs is a great city to live in. i'm an af brat and now an af spouse, so i've lived all over the place and colorado springs is by far the best place i've ever lived. here are some links to the university. http://www.uccs.edu/ http://web.uccs.edu/bethel/[/url] http://web.uccs.edu/fdc/ http://web.uccs.edu/healthcenter/

I'm not sure if this will help, but I was taught in chemistry that the unit I want to end up with as my answer should ALWAYS be on top. So, you have 15mg of drug per 5 mL of some liquid. Well, I need to set up the problem so that I have 5 mL on top. I also need to get rid of the unit "mg" and can do that by setting up the problem where I can cross that unit out. So, my problem looks like: 5mL x 40 mg = 13.3 mL 15mg

What's with all the generalizations? Let's get something straight here. As much as MDs are nothing without nurses, nurses are nothing without MDs. When we speak in generalizations it's hard for me to see how that can be a role model of professionalism for MDs to follow. It's ok to generalize that all MDs will become jerks and unprofessional because of the power society gives them, yet it's not ok for MDs to generalize that all nurses are just "nurses." Not allMDs have power trips or see nurses as a waste of space. On the other hand, some nurses have huge egos and make the environment a living hell for some of their peers. The good and the bad exist in every group.

Just a little clarification...everyone who has attended or is attending med school do not all have parents who drive BMWs and Jaguars, nor were they all born with a silver spoon in their mouths. ANYONE who has the drive required to get in and remain in med school can achieve that goal. Though there are some doctors who think less of CRNAs, not all of them do. Let's not generalize about the entire profession. Like someone said in another post, the bad and the ugly exist in all professions.

if it has to be in apa format, then i believe it's double space with one space between sentences. if a particular format is not required, then i'd do what you think looks best.

it's called integrity. you said you've seen many nurses with experience not use sterile technique. that's a shame, but it doesn't mean you have to go tell on every single one of them. maybe bringing the topic up with the nurse educator without mentioning names will result in some in service training for all of the nurses. while not every single incident requires "ratting" on, there are situations where it does. would you look the other way, if someone treating your mother took her much needed meds in order to sell it on the street? what if a nurse got tired of hearing the alarms going off on his/her vented patient and decided to turn the volume off? you have to use discretion. if you can't, then you should seriously rethink why you're going into a profession that requires you to advocate for ill people.

fyi: the tv show, "er," has a new character on it that may actually portray nurses in a better light. she is the new nurse manager with a phd. she's very very knowledgeable and feisty. she has no qualms about correcting the residents! she's a bit overbearing but i think you all will like her.

We're not talking about a simple minor matter here. Small mistakes are one thing and may not require any real intervention, but cheating is a whole different issue. The thing is, you shouldn't have to worry about watching your back if you know you're a stand up kind of person. A team player won't bring the whole profession down by behaving unethically and then turn around and expect to be protected by the other members at all cost. A team works together for the betterment of the profession as a whole. It's not meant to be a selfish group. You've apparently been told on a time or two in your past and it seems to have angered you. Don't let that cloud your judgment as to when it's appropriate to take a stand.

you're right; it will catch up with them. it can catch up with them when others take a stand. cheaters are everyone's business. you have to pick and choose your battles and this isn't one of them to turn your head from. why even give them the opportunity to take the nclex. most schools will expel students for cheating, thus taking away their opportunity to pursue any academic endeavors at their school. sure they can go to another school, but those who take a stand will make that road very very difficult and just may turn cheaters into future honest nurses.

what a shame to consider those who want to make a stand against cheating as scumbags. what are cheaters then? allowing those to cheat only diminishes the grades that others legitimately earn. but more importantly, if you can't take a stand against someone cheating, will you be able to be patient advocates and stand up for them when you see a nurse or any health care professional do something that can cause them harm? a person who can cheat in an important class like a&p is not advocating for their future patients. that person does not care enough for their future patients to consider it important enough to understand the basics of anatomy. it's better to take care of that person now than wait until they are in a position to put their hands on patients! :stone
