  1. I am currently applying for this type of position however I have a question regarding the rules of "where you work". In example, my home is in Atlanta but I travel back and forth between Atlanta and Dayton, OH (personal reasons). Would I be able to work when I have to be in Dayton or am can I only work out of Atlanta?
  2. I don't know how they select their students but lets hope the process is a little more difficult than just showing up to interview. :) There are a lot of schools out there like that and I just don't trust them. But that's just me. I took some summer courses at Clayton while I was in undergrad and they were not a walk in the park. So I was hoping the their graduate program would be structured the same way. I submitted my application packet in December so I was hoping to have heard something by now. What part of town do you live in? (You can PM if you want.) I'm near City of Decatur. .
  3. Hey! Thanks for replying! I haven't heard anything either. I was getting a little anxious but I feel better now :) Clayton was the only school I applied to. What about you?
  4. Hello! I have applied for the FNP program to begin this fall at Clayton. Looking for others who have applied or thinking of applying. I plan to go to school full time and work part-time. Good luck to everyone!
  5. Hey guys! I too am interested in applying to this program. Currently, I am preparing to take the GRE in Nov or Dec. Anyone else preparing for the GRE?
  6. Thanks for the feedback. Are there designated shifts in Infusion nursing? If so, what are some of the common ones? Thanks!
  7. Hey all! I have a few questions about Home Infusion- Per Diem: -Is the per diem status based on how many days you work in a certain time period or is it based on how many patients you see in a certain time period? -Does the flexibility of the job come from being able to choose the days YOU choose to work or are you able to schedule the actual infusions at times throughout the day that YOU choose? -Are you able to pick a certain pt population to work with? (I.e Pt's needing IVIG vs pt's needing Remicaid vs pt's needing antibiotics) If anyone can answer these that'd be great! Thanks!
  8. @All4Nursing, I know! And exactly how do they expect you to get that experience? @GleeGlum, all ER's aren't created equal. At least that's what Ive been told...
  9. Aww thanks! MT....as in Montana?
  10. I haven't applied to any ICU positions. Usually they say "previous ICU exp required". And just a thought..Why phone in to the ER Manager?
  11. I am currently planning a move from Atlanta, GA to Chicago,IL and subsequently looking for a new job. By the time I get to Chi, I will have approx 3 yrs ER experience. I'm getting frustrated because (it seems) most jobs prefer ICU, Tele, Med-surg experience if you don't have actual experience in that particular specialty. Ideally, I'd like to be in Cath Lab or Cardiac Step Down but I've been rejected from the Cath Lab positions. Still waiting to hear about the Cardiac Stepdown. Has anyone else encountered this problem when moving from ER? :poop:
  12. Hey! We ended up getting matched in Chicago; not Taos. Good luck on your job search!
  13. What about nurses with 2+ years experience? I will be moving this summer and wondering what the job market is like. (Im an Emergency RN)
  14. I am currently preparing to take the GRE. Im not sure what semester I am applying because the future hubby and I will be moving within the next year for his job and probably will have to move again the following year. But thanks for input!
  15. Thanks for the info. I agree, exploring is probably the best way but with so many neighborhoods available, I'd like to have a few narrowed down :-D Thanks!
  16. The "vibe" of each neighborhood. We are in our mid and late twenties and are looking for a safe yet fun and trendy neighborhood. A little diversity would be awesome too. Also, I love public transit so I'd like to be able to utilize that too!
  17. Anyone have any info on Wrigleyville or Lincoln Park? Relocating from ATL in another year and those were the areas we were told to look into.
  18. Thank you Ann. I will keep The Nurse Agency in mind when I begin looking for work. I am now in the procress of applying for licensure in IL.
  19. Hey all. I am looking to relocate to Chicago next summer (July 2013). At that time, I will have just under 3 years exp in a Level I ER. Can anyone list reputable agencys to work with? Also, how is the job market looking in Chicago for experienced RN's?
  20. The best way is to apply online. Also look out for any Nurse Recruitment Job Fairs. When I was a new grad I went to one and I had an interview on the spot. I would advise you not to move from your current location until you have a start date.....and that's with any hospital you choose to work at. Also, its best to have already passed NCLEX and GA License # in hand. Hope this helps!
  21. Greeting everyone! I've been working in a Level I ER for the past 1.5 years. I am interested in applying to an ACNP program in another year. Looking at Vanderbilt's website, I have not found specifics about the type of experience and/or certs needed to be accepted into the program. Does anyone know if ER is acceptable for an ACNP program? Thanks!
  22. Hey Everyone! I am currently an ER RN living in Atlanta,Ga. Theres a chance I will be relocating to Taos, NM next year. The only hospital I could find located in Taos is Holy Cross. Can anyone give me any information on this hospital? And I would also like info on the town. Ive heard it has that "small town" feel and great ski country, which is fine with me. But would I need to drive into larger cities for groceries, shopping, etc? Is it a retirement town or are there young faces as well? Any info or experiences you guys would like to share, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!
  23. I graduated 1 year ago and began working in the ER. The job market was really bad and I was having trouble finding a job. My initial want was to work in the CVICU or CCU but since I was offered an ER Residency position, I took it without hesitation. I say take the specialty you want because now I find its difficult to move into the CVICU or CCU w/o actual CVICU or CCU experience. I feel I will be in the ER for another year or 2 just because hospitals aren't willing to train experienced nurses in a new specialty. So go to the unit where you'll feel comfortable spending some time . Just my 2 cents.
  24. Hello all. Just wanting advice or anyone's two cents. While I was in school, I precepted on a Cardiac Stepdown Unit and loved it! Pt's consisted of sheath pulls, post-MI, POD #1 CABG, etc. The manager did not have a new grad position available when I graduated so I took a Nurse Resident/RN position at a Level I Trauma center in the ER. I have finished my residency and have been working about 8 months in total (since being out of school). I recently emailed the manager from the Cardiac Stepdown Unit looking for PRN work. She only has FT available which she offered to me contingent upon interview. So now I am trying to decide whether I want to leave my current FT for this FT position. My ultimate goal is to work in the CVICU so in my mind, a cardiac stepdown unit would be perfect in getting there after solid experience. Or I could hold out and wait for an actual CVICU position to open up and apply w/ ER experience only. (I don't know of any at this time). Anyone switch jobs before their first year was complete?
  25. My ; I oriented on 7a-7p for four months during my residency then had to switch over to 7p-7a. The first 1-2 mths were kinda rough. I didn't have a problem staying awake @ work but my on off days ALL I wanted to do was sleep!!!. It was very aggravating because I felt I couldn't get anything done outside of working. Nonetheless, I stuck w/ it (about 3-4 mths in total after starting) and things are much better. I work my days 3-on/ 4-off and that really helps too. My advice is to try to work your days 3 in a row from the very start. You may be tired @ first but you'll get the hang of it. Your body will have a more consistent schedule to get used to.
