  1. Congratulations and welcome to nursing! It is harder to find a job if you didn't have it lined up but SNF/Rehab is great. If you can find a hospital position, the experience is great. Keep trying and I think you'll find a good fit. Good Luck!
  2. I have worked private.duty for an agency that hired independent contractors. Some agencies take less liability that way. Although I dont know about CA.
  3. I'm hoping for some good feedback. I recently moved and took a pediatric case over after 6 years being away from pediatrics. To sum it up I have a kiddo on a Trilogy. My agency continues to give me the runaround when I request their trach and vent education. They have stayed that the kiddo is on bipap settings so it isn't neccessary and that is why they dont pay the vent rate. In addition, pulmonology is in conversation with parent re:trach placement soon. When I again requested to take the vent/trach class, they again give me the runaround. When it was brought up that there was a different trach and vent pay rate they tried to make me sign a new, backdated pay contract without the vent rate.
  4. I'm sorry you feel so stressed. There are a few things that really stand out for me. You stated that you were a good nurse which implies you have some knowledge that you no longer are. The stream of conciousness in your posts is leading to confuse myself and a couple of other people here. As a nurse, clear communication is a must. In addition, we all know that alcohol in nearly any amount affects cognition, reflexes and reaction time. That said, it sounds like a terrible mess and I hope you come out of it better than before! Good luck.
  5. I have worked with all sorts of people in several environments. It is stressful to watch someone degrade people when you genuinely care. I try to remind myself that we don't get to see people at their best. So many factors deeply impact us as humans (mental illness, divorce, job loss etc.). The people who come to us are usually scared and hurting and look to us for some level of comfort. I have worked with less than compassionate people and we all have our bad days. Some people were simply not cut out for nursing.
  6. I agree VegGal. It's also possible he was hoping for intimate details. His motivation doesn't matter. I am direct and I have felt most comfortable telling someone that it isn't appropriate to discuss that type of personal matter. Forgive yourself. Respect yourself. Behave professionally and I think that is the image people will see. Good luck!
