It seems to me as thought the Aides don't want to be bothered with going in and checking the pt on their 2 hour rotation (at least that is the rotation I have always known) I personally would have to set them straight if they began to get hostile or mouthy simply because you would not get an order for a foley and let them know just who it is that went to school and who knows when a foley cath is appropriate . :-)

JLC AS far as it being a law I dont think so (but I have been known to be wrong hehe) I fell as though it is only helpful to the nurse because you can better relate to your aides and also know when they are blowing smoke up your behind! some aides can be pretty sneaky to get out of doing things hehe

renerian Spring sounds good to me! things are so crazy around here (of course the holidays always are!) btw I took a big step and sent in my application to the technical college for the RN program I am so excited and nervous all at the same time! My dream finally I am taking steps to work towards it!

WOW there are people from this area!! I am so glad iam not the only one hehehe. Well I have been so indecisive about wich route I want to take. At first I thought that I wanted to go to the technical college for the lpn program but I found out that their waiting list for it is 3YEARS! I amost fell out of my chair! Then I comsidered going to a vocational school for the lpn program. and finally I have thought about the technical college for the RN program. Do you thik that it is normal for the waiting lists to be this long???

Well thank you so much!!! somedays I fell like "just a nurse aide" But as a very wise nurse once told me "you are the foundation of this feild" always said that if it were not for us these people would be in a world of trouble and as far as the people that do the job I used to think that people were just in it for a paycheck but that cant be so as little as the nurse aide end of it pays its sad but true

JUst taking a shot in the dark any nurses or student nurses in the mansfield area? Will be starting PN at tri-rivers in marion ohio in august was wondering if there was anyone else in my area

the way it seems is a lot of the ltc facilities have stopped doing the classes only because of the astronomical rate of people that take the classes and quit on them threfore really losing out on the money in the end the best advice I can think of is try to contact you local adult education schools and see if they might offer the class I know they do here in mansfield so I am sure they would in a bigger city

I am a pre-nursing student excited and nervous all at the same time. My passion has always been nursing so if there are people out there that have a problem with males in the nursing field I guess there really isn't much they can do about it. I ask would you rather have a female that hates her choice of being a nurse or a male that has a true passion for the feild (wich goes the same with any field) I would rather have someone with the passion and desire to be there and to help other rather than someone that would rather not be there at all.

WOW what responses and I have to agree with a reply I hate to admit it but too many of these places are too concerned with the almighty dollar rather than the patients well being its very sad

Well I have to hand it to you Good topic!!! Made me think about the job that I just left was a horrible horrible place! (curently a Nurse aide working towards the PN) We had serveral DON's come and go but the one Came from working in correction now she was a very good nurse but had told me once that she did get scared every now and then. So on that note I feel that its normal for about everyone, then again how could you not feel just a little bit scared.

WOW what a topic could get a heated one! I have one tattoo on my calf so that it is easy enough to conceal for work and as far as peircings I have two nipples rings and one navel ring no one can see them but I know they are they but you would be amazed how quicky a resident out of their right mind and not real sure of what is going on around them can grab ahold of those and send you to the floor so as far as it goes I wouldnt wear more visable ones at least not at work

Working in home care as ( here in ohio we call it) STNA making 8.25 not the money I am interested in more so the desire to help other thats why I chose this proffesion.
