  2. Fundamentals is the main book for the first few months, then focus is on Med-Surg, oh and the Clinical Nursing Skills book. I would not start studying anything right now. I would just worry about getting your paperwork, CPR, vaccines, supplies, books, and most of all...ENJOY your summer break!!!
  3. Some of the books you buy first semester will be used the whole time, such as the Med-Surg book. Second semester you are going to have to buy the Pediatric and OB books. Third semester you will need the Psych book. I surely didn't use all the books I bought, but I wanted them just in case. I wouldn't buy the Taber's medical dictionary...NEVER used it.
  4. I have a friend that did the academic fresh start and we went through the program together. She had a 4.0 almost the whole ride through the nursing program. It is possible, so I would talk to someone at the school who would know something about it. You will have to take all the courses over again and make sure to get A's.
  5. I just graduated from the program, so if anyone has any questions please feel free to email me: [email protected]. :) Good luck!!!
  6. It's very tough..about to finish my second semester! So ready for a break!
  7. Got in last year with 3.7 GPA and 93 on the HESI..about to finish second semester :)
  8. My advice is to take it slow. Only take a couple classes at a time so you can try your best at making A's. Don't let an advisor push you into take 12 hours to be full time, I would take 6-9 hours every semester. If you make a C in something, re-take it, you need to make A's. Nursing is very competetive!! Study your butt off!! Do any and all extra credit any instructor offers, especially in your A&P classes. I start my nursing program in 20 days. I didn't get in my first try but I went back, re-took classes and took extra enrichment classes to raise my GPA to a 3.7. If you take the HESI, make sure to study for it. You can do this, you just have to start out the right way!! Good luck.
  9. It is extremely competitive at my school and a student does pretty much have to have all A's or at least an A average and make a pretty decent score on the HESI. I try to encourage other students to try hard to make A's and focus only on the classes required to be successful. They take the GPA after fall semester and then your HESI score, so I will try and get them to take the classes they know they can make A's in during the fall semester in order to keep their GPA high or even bring it up. I didn't get in my first year and I did everything I could to raise my GPA like re-taking a course and taking other easy courses to bring it up and I got in the next year. Just keep trying, you can do it! :)
  10. Yea, they sent the LPNs out since they have to start pretty soon. I hope they decide to mail ours out too, I am anxious to get it!
  11. I e-mail the nursing secretary and she said that they aren't sure whether they are going to mail the packets or wait to hand them out at orientation.
  12. I just wonder when they are going to send them. Our mail lady has been mixing up houses LOL :) Even a very important letter for my husband never got to him last month!! If you don't mind, let me know when you get yours please.
  13. Do you know if the nursing packets have been sent out yet??
