  1. I am wondering what other facilities policies are on psych pt's getting up in the middle of the night and wanting coffee, snacks etc. Do you adhere to a strict snack schedule? Or do you allow for individual flexibility. I feel two of our younger Psych pt's are always waking up at the same time and actually training their mind to stay awake by always rewarding themselves with a snack....what do you think? Would love to hear feedback.
  2. Texas has a lot of Psych positions open. Florida just opened a brand new psych facility in Fort Meyers. Good luck
  3. I MISS addictions nursing! Worked in the field for 10 yrs. before State Budget cuts shut one of our units down and we were all given wage freezes! I hope to get back into it again! Right now working on an Inpatient Psych unit...get alot of addictions related problems here! Best of luck to all who are still in the trenches!
  4. If you ask you supervisor, she may be able to let you go to Day Surgery and get experience there. That is what my supervisor did. I spent ALL day just inserting I.V.'s under the supervision of a very experienced nurse....It really, really helped! Can't hurt to try and ask! Good luck!
  5. I find it boring to chart the same thing over and over for 18 pt.s when I work 3 nights in a row! I work on an 18 bed, usually always full, pych unit. We work 12 hr. shifts, and are only required to chart once a shift. The RN has to chart all the pt's. We have 1 RN, 1LPN and one Psych Tech on each shift. I am looking for creative ways to say the same thing about the pt's sleeping! It seems so redundant to write: "Pt. is resting quietly with eyes closed, Resps even & unlabored. Another RN told me it is ok to write: "Normal Sleep Pattern observed for this pt. at time of this note..... Any ideas? Thanks! Kathleen RN
