  1. Thank you so much for posting this question. I was wondering the same thing myself. I have three daughters, 13, 10, and 7...my hubby is an elementary teacher and minister. Life is hectic as it is - without me going to school. These tips were wonderful. I LOVE this site.
  2. Hi! I have anxiety as well...I take Zoloft (the minimum that I can get by with) and it truly helps. I've often wondered how nursing might affect this...but I believe I can manage it.
  3. Yep, try to have whichever college you choose assign you an advisor as soon as possible. Good luck! :)
  4. "...while mine has to not only memorize this stuff, but worry about bills, the house, the girls blah blah the list goes on." Oh, how I can relate to that! Shanna
  5. Hi Mudnuri, I'm going to have my oldest daughter help me with memorization, too! It helps to have helpers. Yes, it can be very overwhelming. I had A&P I in '94 and I'm taking it over again in the fall...I hope I can recall some of my stuff...but I'm seriously doubting it.
  6. Thank you...I will! I think curtailing the worrying will be a real problem for me...but I'm going to make an honest effort not to.
  7. Thanks for the pointers! And Timothy, I really enjoyed reading your stories on the ghost story thread! Grannynurse...I guess I live too far away. Shucks. :stone
  8. Mind if I borrow him? :chuckle
  9. I hope so! I'll check out the Dummie book for it...those are usually pretty good. Thanks for all the input! Shanna
  10. Thanks! You most definitely have my admiration! I'm going to commit to doing 1 chapter week before I have to actually take it. That way I won't be completely lost.
  11. I'm really dreading statistics. I'm not mathmatically-minded and I just bought a book on beginning statistics to try to get a leg-up with it. We really don't have any pre-requisite for it, either. Whoa boy. :uhoh21:
  12. I'm so glad you asked this question. I'm hard of hearing also and wondered how this was going to affect clinicals, etc.
  13. I've heard Curves is great! If you can't get to Curves there are several really good home videos out there. The yoga helps to relax me...it really stretches out those bunchy muscles. I used to do some pretty intense weight work until this happened. Once upon a time I was in good shape. Now I'm the human equivalent to the schmoo (Anyone remember that cartoon? I just showed my age ) I take the minimum dose of Zoloft...it certainly does help me considerably and the low carb thing is the way to go. I've been eating a lot of veggies from garden (mainly squash and tomatoes) so that helps. I'm glad to hear that your hubby is doing well. My little sis had advanced thyroid cancer but has recovered nicely. I love a happy story. :)
  14. Thank you for your prayers...I need them! I manage...I never let it get me down and I refuse to let it dictate my life. I'm currently taking Zoloft and I'm going to go the way of low carb. I walk and do yoga. I appreciate the advice you all have given very much. Coopergirl...I'm very sorry to hear about your husband.
  15. Thank you for your reply! I appreciate the input...and you have a very, very good point. I'm glad you decided to post! Welcome! :) Shanna
  16. Working toward a BSN at KCU, Kentucky. :)
  17. I, too, am going back to college in pursuit of a BSN this fall (former teaching student). I have always been a better student of the arts and humanities...but found the "Math Smart" guides to be extremely helpful. I studied the first "Math Smart" book last summer before taking a Pre-Algebra class and I did really well. The are very helpful because they explained things in a way that I could understand them. For the first time ever; I actually "got" math and it became more like a game or a puzzle for me. (Helps that I had an outstanding professor!) Good luck! (...Now if I can just find a way to tackle my fear of Statistics. :uhoh21: )
  18. Thank you all so much. I appreciate your input. The pain doesn't bother me nearly as much as I worry about the fog, but I managed to get good grades before I was diagnosed, so I don't know that it will make much difference now. I do agree that sitting around makes it much worse! I prefer to be up and moving and doing something as opposed to doing nothing. :)
  19. Thank you, Karen. I hope there are others who can give me a little insight as well. It's true that it varies from person to person.
  20. Hi, I was DX with Fibromyalgia about a month ago. (Before y'all worry about it...I don't take narcotics and I deal with the pain by way of diet and exercise :). I know FM can be controversial. ) Anyway, I am continuing school this fall and now I'm wondering if nursing will be possible with the pain, exhaustion and cognitive "fog" that goes along with this. There are some nights when I have to prop my arms on pillows to keep them from hurting from the pressure of the bed. At times, it is difficult to raise an aerosol spray can. Right now, I'm working in housekeeping at the college I'm attending and the job is intensely physically demanding. I suppose my fear is that I'll get through nursing and find that I can't do it. Does anyone else out there have Fibromyalgia? Are there any working nurses out there with it. I'm really not that interested in anything else as a career. This decision is excruciating. Thanks! Shanna
  21. Hey Chad...I'm from KY, too. Are you in the KCTCS system? Yep...crazy weather. I would have preferred for it to remain in the 70s. :)
