Tired of floor nursing.
I would definitely try to make it more than 6 months with 1 year being ideal. I would use this time to search and consider what might be a good fit-maybe even job shadow. Work on your exit plan- it may make your current job more tolerable just knowing you have an end date. I certainly understand how you feel, I've been working med/surg for a long time and I am burned on call lights and family members. I keep thinking PACU or OR might be a nice change.

Family Issues with Night Shift
I am in the habit of sleeping with a loud fan. When I was single, but living in an apartment, the people next door played music super loud. Then when I rented a house the neighbor mowed his lawn with his super loud riding-mower like every day! Seriously, smoking a cigar and drinking a beer- it was his thing. And then I had babies...... so when working 3rds, I have dark curtains and a super loud fan up close.

Just...ugh
It's normal to feel this way! Sucky, but normal.

Doing the "Right" thing...
I'm sorry this happened to you. I love being a nurse but situations like this make me question how long I can continue. I have heard countless stories (and have some of my own) similar to yours, unfortunately. I know your situation sucks right now but you absolutely did the right thing! We are patient advocates not Dr's servants.Patients shouldn't be punished for their behavior. I hope you continue practicing in the same manner as you are now.

Saying No!
I started working in the hospital as a CNA when I turned 18. At first I came in whenever they called and felt guilty/anxious if I said no. I got over that pretty quick when I realized the floor would ALWAYS be short. I also don't make excuses or elaborate. "No, I cannot work today. Thank you." And that's about it.
