  1. congrats! That's amazing....I am almost 40 and I have continually surprised myself with my post-baccalaureate work. School as an adult is great - you can handle whatever is going to be thrown at you. What program did you get into?
  2. Wow...pretty cold in here! Moving on....
  3. Thanks, Emer....Anyone else feeling generous? lol
  4. Hey accepteds! Congratulations! I had posted a few pages back asking if any of you would share their personal statement so that I could see what a successful student's looked like. Is anyone willing? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
  5. There is a thread called Stony Brook Accelerated Class of 2013....a few of the regular posters just got their acceptances. Go check it out! Good luck....
  6. Congrats to all who got in! I wasn't so fortunate this time. I was wondering if any of you would be willing to share your personal statement so that I may see what a successful applicant's looked like? If not I understand and wish you all the best!
  7. Paco - did they inform you of your waitlist status along with your decline letter when you were waitlisted?
  8. I thought they were comparable in terms of the time needed to study and the effort necessary in lab. The information given in both classes is extensive, so studying every night for an hour or so is key. AP2 is much more physiology based, as the others have said, so the type of learning you need to do is sifferent. Less memorization and more application using the information base acquired from AP1. The areas we spent the most time on were the endocrine system, respiratory system and cardiovascular system. Review gas exchange, laws of mass action from chemistry, muscles and the molecules that they function with as well as how they use them, types of transport (active, passive, facilitated), diffusion. All these processes will help you to piece together the new info from AP2. If you got an A in 1, you can do it again. You know what it takes. Best of luck!
  9. Way to go...congratulations on an amazing accomplishment!
  10. Def take it! It will help you with A&P and most BSN programs require at least one, if not two Chem classes. It would be a pain to get through with your pre-reqs only to find that you should have taken Chem. Best of Luck!
  11. Hey momtojosh... I am on long island! Where is canton? How did you do on histology in bio and AP? If you did well, you'll be fine in micro. Yes, it's always a game for the first test, at least, when you're trying to figure them out. You've gotten this far - you can do it. Be confident! I've found that the way I think influences my results...so now I believe I can do anything. LOL.
  12. So I had left a message with SB before the holidays asking about when the decisions on admissions could be expected and I know we got the email about it being pushed back to end of Feb.....but I got a call today from an admission rep saying that it will most likely be early to mid Feb, despite what the email said! Don't want to make anyone more crazy than they already feel, but I wanted to put that out there. To wait another 5 weeks would seriously be torturous and cruel. Anyway - hope this info is good.
  13. Just finished this in December...topics that were heavily discussed were all processes regarding the respiratory system (diffusion, Boyle's Law, effects of CO2 and O2 on respiration, types of transport), endocrine system (chemical messengers, hormones). Know your histology regarding all tissue types. If you like audio/visual learning, a great website that was companion to our text and was the reason my lowest test score was a 99, is called aprevealed.com. It costs $30 to gain access. It has dissections, histology, animations and quizzes for each major body system. Check it out - I know I will still use this to brush up and review this vital info. Best of luck!
  14. I plan on being a CRNA as well. Good for you - you're in the game MAKING your life happen. So many people are WAITING for life to happen to them and your ambition just intimidates them. It makes them feel like they aren't doing enough in their own careers. But, that is their problem....not yours! Best of luck!
  15. Hey! I'm taking it as well, but I don't begin until January 24th here in NY. Looking forward to touching base over the semester. Best of luck!
