UHG/Optum NP Housecalls
I am hoping someone might respond to my post that works for United Healthcare. I just wanted to give an update that I applied and interviewed for a full-time position doing Housecalls. They mentioned a salary, bonus potential, and mileage per diem. I am not sure of the bottom line of what I would make. It sounds like it can vary. If someone is currently working for them and could give me any insight into working for them I would really appreciate it.

UHG/Optum NP Housecalls
I have been working as an NP for 4 years in Texas. I have seen a lot of positions open recently for the United Healthcare/Optum NP Housecalls. If there are any nurse practitioners currently doing this anywhere in the US, I would love to get your insight. Some of the few posts on this subject are several years old. I read the reviews on some job sites and some are saying you work 60-hours for a 40-hour paying position. Thanks

Considering Urgent Care
That was very helpful! Thanks!

Considering Urgent Care
I am considering working in urgent care in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but responses from all over the US are welcomed. I would like to hear from anyone about their experience in urgent care. Do you wish you were working family practice or internal medicine instead? Are you happy with your decision to work in urgent care? Do you have to work Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas day? Are there any companies you would never work for? Also, I wondered if there are any opportunities to pick up extra shifts when you work for one of these companies. Thanks for the responses!

Pay scale by region and specialty
I found one of the best ways is going to the BLS.gov website. You can hover over the cities on the graphic "Employment of Nurse Practitioners, by area, May 2015" and it will show you the annual mean wages for nurse practitioner for that area. I have found the information very useful for myself. Here is the link: Nurse Practitioners I hope that helps!

How long until the AANP updates their website post official transcript receipt and exam?
I graduated in May. It took the AANP about 3 business days for mine to show up. I was like you and kept checking multiple times a day! The printable wallet card suddenly showed up under my documents checking one of those times. Congrats on passing!

Any FNP's work at Parkland?
Thanks for the information. I think I will start applying to some of the urgent care places too. The problem with so many jobs is they want experience. It's just like being a new grad RN!

Any FNP's work at Parkland?
Hi Tarshapitt, I had no idea you worked at Parkland! I know we talked a while back. I applied to the ER a Parkland today. I was just hoping someone who already works there could give some insight on how good a job is there. I noticed that ER position has been posted since December.

Any FNP's work at Parkland?
I just wondered if anyone is an FNP and works at Parkland? If so, do you like the work environment and pay? I was considering applying there as they have several job openings on their website. Thanks for responding!

OSCE
I am going to have several OSCEs (Observed Standardized Clinical Examination) during my FNP Clinicals and I am wondering how hard they are to pass. My college says that most everyone passes. It is a pass/fail type test. I have tried to find information on allnurses but all the posts are mainly for the Canada OSCE. Also, there isn't too many books on the subject for nurse practitioner students. I am assuming that the lack of threads on this forum is a good thing or more people would be asking about it. I just don't know how to prepare for it and they're not giving us much information. For example, for an ear complaint I would assume doing a complete physical exam from the chest up. Or do they want you to just do a focused ear exam? We have 20 minutes for the subjective/objective and 10 min to write our soap. Thanks for your responses!

pharmacology and pathophysiology for FNP program
While I am sure it is helpful to take pharmacology and pathophysiology, I don't feel it is necessary in all instances. I say this from experience as I graduated from an ADN program in 2011 and started attending a RN to BSN/MSN program in the fall of 2012. I never took the BSN pharm and patho because my program counts the master's level patho as a dual credit. There was no requirement for a pharm course at the BSN level. I am currently taking the master's pharm and I am making an A average at this time. I was scared at first because I thought it might put me at a disadvantage and I did fine. These courses are not easy. Ten students out of fifty dropped out of my master's patho course when I took it in the fall of 2012 and most of them already had a BSN. The patho course built upon my A&P courses that I took prior to nursing school. If I didn't understand something in my master's patho course I would re-read my book until I did. Everyone has an opinion and the admissions counselor certainly is allowed hers. If you did well in your A&P classes and your ADN pharm, then you will do well in a master's pharm and patho. However, if you were weak in these classes, then you might consider what she says.

Tips Pass TWU Adv Assessment
Hi Everyone, I am taking the summer session of Adv Assessment 5644 at TWU. I am one to start as early as possible on my coursework each semester. Without going into to much detail, there was a mistake and my course wasn't opened until the first day. They emphasized multiple times it is a very hard course even in the fall. I feel very overwhelmed at this point but I am determined to pass! I would appreciate any helpful tips to study for anyone who has taken this course, either at TWU or anywhere else. I was thinking of flashcards for the powerpoints provided but not sure if that will help me best. From reading what posts there is on the subject, I know repetitive practice for my clinical portion is best. Thanks.

Thank you Allnurses! I am an RN!
I am not one to post much on any forum but I just have to say a huge THANK YOU to Allnurses.com for all their help. I was completely lost when I first began my journey to become a nurse 3 1/2 years ago. Allnurses provided me with information on my HESI entrance exam to nursing school, how to study for my exams while in school, how to study for the Exit HESI exam, how to do well for my new grad interviews, how to study for the NCLEX, and how to quickly know if I passed the NCLEX :) I have spent countless hours on Allnurses without posting but reading through tons of threads. This site has made a huge difference for me all this time. Even though I don't post much, I say THANK YOU ALLNURSES for helping me through such a stressful journey. I don't know what I would have done without this site!

NCLEX Timeline till I found out I passed
I used the Hurst review which was really helpful for me. When I was taking the test and faced with questions that I didn't know, Marlene's tips were very helpful. I highly suggest Hurst review.
