Is there fall risk for people with panic disorder? If they are admitted to the hospital should certain precautions be taking? Like keeping bed at lowest position? Thanks!

Need help and advice in applying for my license w/ criminal history!
Most documents regarding arrest dates, disposition, etc will come from the clerk of court in your state. When you do obtain these types of document always have them certified and stamped

New graduate wanting some more success stories and helpful advice
I'm still so confused myself. You said you plan to volunteer at a hospital and I am wondering if you would have to disclose your record. My theft misdemeanor has been expunged, but i am worried when I become a nurse If I have to disclose my record to hospitals or nursing home employers. I have been told yes by some and no by others. Someone also told me that if you are going to be fingerprinted(fbi) then to disclose your record because it will come up for sure. I think they even fingerprint when you volunteer at a hospital as well. This is sad for me because I have to work in a hospital to become a CRNA and this has been my life and career goal. Please keep us updated on your progress! I wish you well and good luck with everything

Does an obese nurse set a bad example?

Does an obese nurse set a bad example?
What weight/size is considered obese? People automatically assume thin people are generally healthy. Well, I'm 5'5,110 pounds, look like I have worked out my whole life and I even have a 6 pack to prove that lie. Get this, I can barely make it up a full flight of stairs with out losing my breath. I consume too much sugar and salt in one day. I eat like a MAN but it's usually junk food and I don't work out at all. My bff who is the same height but 147 pounds can speed walk on a treadmill for a straight hr. I lose my breath after 5 mins! I'm going to see a nutritionist next week and hope to get on a healthy track. You don't have to be obese to be unhealthy or have bad eating habits. One thing I know about myself is that my small size and figure has given me the illusion that I was healthy for years. I have been in what i call "skinny denial" for way too long.

To take Micro or not??...
If you plan to take the class get Microbiology Super Review by Lauren Gross.. I purchased this book for my sister, who failed her first micro class and re-took it and got a B. She said it was because of this book! Good Luck

DWI and taking the NCLEX..
I understand everything you stated. I had a friend that was killed by a drunk driver but some of things you said was just plain unnecessary.

So I guess it is true...
To the op, you didn't do anything wrong and in my opinion you have every right to feel the way you do. I find it odd how most of the nurses here are trying to take your head off but Im sure if it was them they would feel the same way. I guess because she is a"nurse instructor" she should get a pass. I swear it seem like people don't even read anymore. You repeated yourself several times in this post and they still don't get it. Its not about the letter of recommendation its the principal! She should have given proper feedback and been honest about it. It was mature of you to request a meeting with her. I find what she did to be very cowardly and I would question her judgment or lack thereof. She is an instructor and it is HER JOB to give honest and proper feedback especially if she felt that your skills were not up to par. She is there to evaluate and instruct and she failed to PROPERLY do that. Your education is priceless and you want to feel confident and not like you passed with skin on your teeth! Some of the comments here are repulsive....

My take on the TEAS test...
I took the TEAS randomly today and did good! I scored a 74. The school that I want to attend only requires a composite of 66% and a science score of 60. My background: I never completed high school and went on to get my G.E.D. I have yet to take any prerequisites for any of the subjects that was on the test. I took this test just to see what it would be like and to challenge myself. I purchased ATI book, practice test and Mcgraw-hills Nurse Entrance Exam(these books were ok). I would suggest 5 TEAS Practice Tests by Mcgraw Hill. This book has the same exact layout and form of the actual test! The science is on point in this book. The practice questions in the book are very similar to the TEAS, even the science portion. I have very little (and I do mean very little) science background. I brushed up using self teaching guides from Amazon. If you are bad at math just grab any GED book and study basic arithmetic and algebra 1. To study for the English portion I used Susan Thurman's book-The Only Grammar Book You'll Ever Need. Its a very concise book and straight to the point. I am not great with grammar or punctuation but this book helped me enough to pass. The reading was a bit challenging. I am an avid reader and its my favorite subject. The questions aren't tricky but the passages can be dense. I found myself losing focus and interest. there were several times when i had to go back to the passage for better comprehension and clarity. If you can comprehend what you read and know the different types of writings(narrative, descriptive, expository, persuasive, etc.) the questions will be pretty simple. All in all, this test was basic. In my opinion, the science was the most challenging and it was the lowest score that I received. When taking this test you have to keep time and pace yourself. You should warm up by doing a few practice questions before the test but not too many. When you take the test you are going to be thinking-"awww man, this is what I was stressing over" lol...good luck! GET THE 5 TEAS BOOK FOR PRACTICE!! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT

Just took TEAS V on Friday----Need advice!!
If you don't mind, can you share your individual scores for each subject. I am taking it tmrw randomly and I am just curious. I have a great feeling that i will do poorly on the science as I have no science background. What is your take on the science? Thanks!

Help!!! A&P has started!!!!!!
There is a self teaching manual called E-Z A&P on amazon.com by Barron. You should look into getting it. It break down a lot of the things you learn in those dense text books. I go back to school this summer and I have always purchased a self teaching guide for my classes as a supplement. I try to go with the ones on amazon with 4 or 5 stars.

TEAS V ..My results for MDC
Your scores aren't bad. If the school you are attending is very competitive, i would suggest taking it one more time. You have a feel for what the test is going to be like and maybe you can study more in those areas where you scored the lowest

2 misdemeanors...nervous about getting into school AND getting hired
@FLmomof5 do you have a criminal background? if so, has it been hard for you to gain employment? also, does it show up when you apply for jobs at ltc or hospitals? I have a misdemeanor theft but I had it expunged. I know it will show up with BON but not sure if I have to disclose it with hospital employers, etc. Thanks

Kicked out of nursing school!
honestly if i were you I would just look into applying at another school. Try to stay out of trouble and keep a clean record especially if you really want to be a nurse. It maybe all fun now but you will cry later. I have a criminal record and trying to be a nurse with ANY criminal background is very HARD..take it from me, you don't want to go down that road.

Some hope for job searchers...

Maryland... MBON
@studentjoy- see that's the tricky thing about it. When i got fingerprinted for the LPN school I actually called down to BCI&I(FBI) to be certain that the record was expunged and what would be disclosed to the school. The catch is that if you work with older adults or children that they CAN disclose your expunged/sealed record to the school in which you apply and the BON. The reason they can disclose it to the school is because in clinical you may have to work around children and older people. I will tell you this, I know of a few nurses with felonies and misdemeanors and they are gainfully employed and making a great life for themselves. I have not even started my pre-req courses yet but I want to do as much I as can to help myself. I will be doing a lot of networking in the mean time because you never know who might be able to lend you a helping hand or put in a good word for you.

Maryland... MBON
@arlenejross Did you have to jump through any hoops to get into MC because of your record? I really want to go to this school for nursing and I hear its a great school. When I got my CNA license in Ohio it was fairly easy and I didn't have to do anything with BON at all, and I even worked for a home health aide agency right after I got my registry license. The thing that got me discouraged is that when I applied for LPN class at a private school I was turned down, and it was against their policy to tell me why:confused:. I did really good on the math and teas reading and I had great references (so i thought)but I still don't know why i was rejected and I can't help but to think it was due to my record. I have since moved to Maryland and the CNA class start next month.

Have my license but trouble finding a job
I had a theft on my record and I pled guilty as well but I am from ohio and i was able to get it expunged. Did you talk to only one lawyer about it and are you certain that you can't have it expunged/sealed or pardon? Trust me, I know how you feel. You said that you are unable to work with children. Have you tried applying at assistant living facilities or nursing homes? it seem that it is harder to get jobs in hospitals vs ltc when you have criminal history. I'm sure you will find something! It may take a lot of patience but just try to be positive and not let it get to you. When you do find employment try to stick with that place as long as possible and build a good rep! You may not get exactly what you want but at least it will give you a start and more employers will be willing to open their doors to you.. good luck with everything and keep me updated on your progress.
