  1. How do you feel about being required to have the Hep B series? If you are exposed through blood and body fluids then you are definitely exposed through air and contact for the flu virus. Institutions lose money when you are out sick with the flu. It's part of the scheme of things. If private owned hospitals and offices can mandate that you don't smoke (through serum drug testing for nicotine) then they sure can mandate you have a flu vaccine or penalize/firs you for not. It is what it is and in this economy can you afford to lose a job, not get a job, or be penalized for not following their mandates?
  2. 23 years of OB/GYN experience both in and out of the hospital setting, a recent MSN ( with $40,000 debt and NOTHING! There is not a shortage of nurses just a shortage of facilities willing to work with those who have the qualifications. They all want "recent" experience. Eventually all those are going to die off and then what? I'm frustrated - Have been applying and interviewing since August. If it's money I haven't heard a single person discuss me being flexible and willing to take a cut to get my foot in the door. Im not sure whats next........
  3. Sounds like TCH...... reapply, delete the oldest application and reapply. keep on, be persistent, keep gutting put on the top of the pile.
  4. Have 32 applications at TCH. Haven't heard a thing.
  5. Shadowing is part of some interviews. Letting you see the unit and letting the employer see how you interact with the staff. Not a guarantee for the job. i shadowed and was passed over. My guess is for someone that had less experience = less pay. I don't know the real reason because they wouldn't tell me. Difficult to get feedback so you know if you need to do anything to improve your chances next time.
  6. I have been applying since July. i have about 500 applications out there. I have gotten actual feedback from a warm body on ONE application. A handful of other responses were sent by email. Seems like the recruiters and the unit mangers who interview you don't know how to communicate very well. I send a thank you for the interview and make follow-up calls. nothing. I try to be sure to get email addresses when I do interview. It's very frustrating. Just knowing if you did or didn't or weren't consider for a position helps you to decide what to do next rather than hanging in Limbo.
  7. Same problem here. I have been in OB/GYN for 23 years - combo hospital and clinic - no one will talk to me with a "years recent experience". How do you get a recent year of experience when no one will let you prove to them your knowledge, experience, and capabilities? This is the first time in 31 years that I have not been employed and I am not sure what to do next. I have well over 500 applications over the past two months sent into the major institutions for a 50 mile radius. Nothing. It's disheartening knowing there are openings out there, I have the desire to work but the politics prevent it. In all.... is there really a nursing shortage or just a roadblock from the healthcare settings preventing nurses from working? Everyone says to take a nurse refresher course. Nice idea, except those are 18 months long and a few thousand dollars. If I had the time and the money I'd be there in a heartbeat. This makes you suicidal!!!!
  8. send him a text an hour before you come in if you re following him. Maybe that'll help. At least you'll be showing an initiative to try a solution without causing disruption in the ranks. People need to be accountable for their duties.
  9. Grrrrr.....why is it that nurses eat other nurses? Thats one of the problems in our profession....no one supports others. Rather than asking you if you are okay and assessing the situation its always about one upping and being the golden child of the group. Man up fellow nurses. Support each other. We are all human and it will happen to everyone of us that we are accused of being unprofessional. Our mouths sometimes get the best of us and believe me, we are sorry that it happened. We love our careers, our patients, and need our fellow peers to help us through those moments. As long as patients weren't involved, apologize and move on. It'll make for a tense working environment knowing that someone in your group has done that and that is not good for everyone. The tension is contagious and depressing.
  10. Hi I applied to Frontier over the summer for the post-grad certification for WHNP. Class 99 was the next available. Does anyone know when the notifications are sent as to whether or not you were accepted? I never received a phone interview. Thanks, Tila
