  1. I just got my acceptance email! Hope everyone else's is on the way too!
  2. Thanks for calling!
  3. Hi! I applied to the psych-mental health MSN. Which specialty did you apply to? And congratulations, ShyButNotReallyRN, BSN, RN!
  4. Inquiring minds are dying to know, to what program did you apply? I haven't received anything yet. Fingers crossed for us all.
  5. I just checked the mail. Waitlisted. Came in a medium-sized letter. Still no email or change to my app.applyourself.com account, however. I'm trying to stay positive that a spot will open up for me. Good luck, everyone!
  6. Glad to know I'm not the only one! Hope you hear something good soon.
  7. I'm very sorry, Csniffor. I hope there is a silver lining somewhere in this for you.
  8. Psych NP applicant here. I haven't heard anything. Congratulations healtheworld!
  9. Congratulations! Were you accepted into the MSN or the DNP program? Do you remember what email address sent the notification? (I keep checking my spam folder daily for fear the notification will be routed there incorrectly.)
  10. Has anyone received word on admission to UNC-Chapel Hill's MSN programs for Fall 2015? I understand notifications may not be made until May, but I would love to hear from anyone who has heard anything at all. This wait seems like it will never end. Thanks!
  11. Thank you, CCuser!
  12. Hi CCuser, did they have more than 400 applicants for all the MSN specialties combined, or more than 400 applicants for psych MSN? I applied to the MSN PMHNP program and still have my fingers crossed. Good luck with USA. I'm sorry UNC didn't work out this year.
  13. Like the others, I applied to UNC-CH, just not that particular program. I'm hoping to gain admission to the PMHNP program. Did you guys notice that the school's website now indicates that admission decisions will be delayed due to the "large volume" of MSN applications received? Sigh. That message didn't exactly lift my spirits. Good luck to us all!
  14. At Forsyth in Winston-Salem, new grads (regardless of ADN or BSN) get $21.50 plus $4 nights. Weekend pay is an extra $1.25 or $1.50 (can't remember).
  15. Thanks! If you go to a state school, you can buy student health insurance. It's about $700 a semester for one person -- I'm not sure what it costs for and adult and child. Your employer-based insurance is probably cheaper, however. Good luck in whatever path you choose!
  16. Hi Dani2389, I finish WSSU's ABSN program tomorrow. I also spent one semester in Forsyth Tech's ADN program while I waited to hear if I was accepted into WSSU. The ABSN was definitely right for me -- I can't imagine spending any more time in nursing school right now. I definitely feel prepared for the NCLEX. I don't know about funding sources at other schools. WSSU has a funding agreement with Baptist Hospital in which some students' tuition, fees, and books are covered. The Robert Wood Johnson program offers some students about $10K for school. (I'm not sure about those numbers, however.) Outside of that, WSSU doesn't offer much in the way of help. Dealing with the financial aid office can be a pain. I recommend the state's forgivable loans for service program (CFNC - Paying For College), which offers $7K a year to ABSN students. I moved in with family to complete my program. Others took out additional loans. Several of my classmates managed to keep their jobs, although the program recommends against it. I still do some freelance work in my previous field and am PRN at a local hospital. It is doable if not ideal. I definitely recommend an ABSN program if you can make school your primary focus for the duration, with some caveats. At least at WSSU, the administrators and many instructors do not plan ahead. You will have last minute schedule notifications and changes, sometimes with as little as 20 minutes notice. Authority figures generally do not consider childcare needs, family emergencies, etc. Having been an adult for a decade or two now, it was initially mind-boggling to be treated with such a lack of consideration.
  17. We have to wear white shoes for clinicals. Many of us wear the typical nursing brands (Danskos and such), but some of us wore white sneakers. They need to be impervious (no Crocs with holes). Hope this helps some!
  18. Thanks for your advice, llg and Nurse2bKimberly. I really appreciate your responses. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed about this job but keep looking. I really, really want this position, but I don't want to find myself heartbroken and unemployed if it falls through.
  19. Hi everyone ... I just received a much-wanted job offer but have nothing in writing. The nurse manager and I shook on it, and she advised me that HR would be in touch next week. When next week came, I didn't hear anything so I contacted the nurse manager again. She responded that she must have misspoke and that the job would just be an agreement between us. Human resources will not get involved until after I graduate in a few months and pass the NCLEX. Should I be worried? I trust her but not the economy. Am I reasonably safe in stopping my job search? I was so thrilled to be offered this job, but I don't want to put my eggs in one basket.
  20. For the first few months, you're in class four days a week. Once you're finished with the intro courses, you typically have two days in the classroom and two days in clinical. Schedules can vary (in a recent peds class some students had only one day a week off), but you're definitely not expected to be in class or clinical for seven days a week.
  21. I'm a current ABSN student. I know at least one student who doesn't have a car. I think it would probably be workable -- clinicals are generally at Baptist or Forsyth, which are both in town. However, the sites used in community nursing can be all over (and out of) town. That might be harder, but your classmates would likely be pretty helpful.
  22. I'm still PRN as a CNA at a local hospital, but I haven't pulled any shifts since starting school. I'm not sure how it will change as the program progresses, but we're told we generally won't have more than two days of clinical each week. Right now I'm in class from 8 to 4 or 5:30 Tuesday through Friday (with at least an hour, often two for lunch). We're off on Thursday afternoon and all day Monday. Some students are working some, but I don't know how much. Hope this helps. I'm happy to answer questions.
