Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
Yes, at NG you get your ASN first then go back for their BSN program. The ASN takes two years to complete and the BSN portion can be completed with one additional year and it can even be done mostly online if you want.

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
I also didn't hear anything about needing to have the service learning shirt for the 16th. I will not have mine by then, and I don't see how it can be required. The uniform order form clearly states the August deadline. Also, how could all of the newly accepted students have time to order and receive their shirts by the 16th. It sounds like whoever you spoke with was mistaken or they haven't informed any of us and can't hold us responsible for something we couldn't have been aware of. Just my opinion on that matter. I am planning on ordering my uniforms this week.

How do you make it through the sciences?
Nursing is a lot of science, and not just during school. I was intimidated by all of the science classes at first but also knew that I loved science and would enjoy learning more. If you really hate science that much maybe you should really think about if nursing is for you. There is a reason I did not choose a major in history or english.

Anyone applying to Brenau nursing program, or attended their program?
I applied to Brenau nursing and was accepted for Fall 2012. I decided not to attend because of the poor NCLEX scores and the fact that they are currently on some sort of probation for the scores. I also spoke to several 2012 graduates of the program and they confirmed that it wasn't a good program. I decided to go to NGCSU for my ASN and take the extra year to get my BSN. I didn't see the point of paying that much money for an education ($10K+/semester) when it wasn't a quality education. If you are interested in a private school and don't mind paying tuition check into the nursing program at Piedmont College in Demorest. They have excellent reviews and the NCLEX pass rate has been 100% for the last few years. I wanted to attend Piedmont but when it came time to decide the financial impact of a private education was just too much.

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
Congratulations to everyone getting their letters!! I have spent close to $400 already, but my insurance is also horrible and I had to pay out of pocket for most of my shots and bloodwork. I did not have to pay the $200 confirmation deposit, I am guessing because I was a student at NGCSU several years ago. I made a list of costs (with my cost for shots, doctor, and bloodwork) and I will be paying around $850 for everything except books before the semester starts. Just to clarify that depending on what you need the costs might be pretty crazy!

Neighbors, friends, and family coming by for nursing advice
I haven't even started my program yet and already get this. My boyfriend's mom tells people I am "in nursing" all the time so they are always asking me about meds and other health questions. I am always fast to say that I am not even in nursing school yet and besides my own common sense have no training. Go ask your doctor! It sounds like I will be dealing with this for a long, long time. Geez.

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
Thanks for the info kmp5! Are they fairly stain resistant? I am such a mess sometimes, I know I will spill on myself all the time. I am hoping that I don't have to order new ones all the time because of stains. I finally started all of my immunization stuff today and how not fun was that! A word of advice - if you haven't gone in for them yet do it soon. Depending on what all you need it could take a few visits. I went ahead and got the flu vaccine, but I was told I would need another updated one this fall.

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
The accepted students had to send in a confirmation in Feb. The next deadline for us is toward the end of April. I am guessing that those taken off the wait list will be getting something in May just going from our deadlines. Hope this helps! I know how bad it stinks to get waitlisted then sit and wonder. How did the meeting go?

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
I would also like to try on the uniforms before I order them. They are so expensive, I really don't want to get the wrong size! Maybe the company has a good return policy? I will be at the info session on the 9th! Is anyone doing the "mentor" thing that was offered in the packets we got?

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
My CPR class was offered for credit through GSC, so I used it to fill up my hours this semester. I have to be on top of things, if I don't do it now while I am thinking about it I WILL forget in a few weeks!

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
Thanks for the tips! Looks like I need to get myself over to the health dept. pretty quickly unless I want them all at once.

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
I am not a fan of them either. That is a really good idea, I wish I had been doing that over the last few months. I feel like after I get all these shots I will also get deathly ill from them. I think nursing is the only reason I will let anyone shoot me up with vaccinations, ever!

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
I will probably just get all my shots out of the way now, including flu. I don't usually get one, and I am not excited about it! But I would rather just know that it is done and over with than have to go back later.

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
I got my CPR certification at Gainesville College. I think Lanier Tech offers courses on a regular basis and my instructor was from there.

I got mine today too! Things just got serious! Who all will be at the Gainesville campus?

Hmm, if that is the case I should have gotten mine by today and it didn't come. Nothing like waiting for tomorrow!

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
Has anyone heard or gotten anything from them? I was told more info would go out last week but I haven't seen anything yet! I am so nervous that somehow something got messed up!! I know that is unlikely, but I would love to hear something to reassure me!

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
I am sure the ranking is not alphabetical, that would just be completely unfair and wouldn't always give them the best candidates. I am thinking the "list" is just those people who met the basic requirements. The better your stats the better your chances of getting off the waitlist. In reality, NG is not forthcoming with info so everyone is pretty much guessing at the number of people on the list as well as their methods of selecting people off the list or organizing the list. Good luck to everyone on the waitlist! I know from experience how tough it is to wait!

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
I believe there are 160 total spots, so it makes sense for the list to be 160 people long. And, I am sure it is a list in their computer system, easily searchable, rather than a paper list. I did not ask what group I was in and since it was last year they might not have had groups. I also didn't find out my position until it was almost summer so the list may have been shorter by then? It sounds like qute a few people get off the wait list. Good luck with getting in!

Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?
She is mailing out more info next week! I am guessing what you can find already on the website (uniform info, immunizations, checkups, CPR, background check, etc.). I haven't noticed any changes on my Banner Web but I also have only looked at it once in 6 months.

Piedmont College Summer 2012
I actually cancelled my interview with them. I was having horrible anxiety about the cost, and what if situations, so I just took it off the table! Good luck with getting in! Piedmont has a fantastic nursing program!

Community colleges
I agree, GSC is fantastic. And it is about to merge with NGCSU, which has a great nursing dept. :) My opinion is swayed a little though, as I am currently at GSC and will continue to stay on this campus when I start NGCSU nursing in the fall!

High school junior considering nursing - best Georgia undergrad programs?
I don't know since I will be starting nursing classes in the Fall. So far, the so called hard prereqs haven't been that difficult to me so I am hoping nursing school won't be the hell I hear about. I really think it depends on your learning style and specific strengths. From what I have heard there is a lot of material to remember, and it is pretty high stress because you have to remember it through the whole program to be able to pass the exam at the end and become a RN. And I imagine part of the stress comes from the fact that you will be responsible for the lives of others at the end of all of it. To me that is going to be the hardest part, I don't settle for decent grades now and I know that I will be even more hardcore about school and being perfect when more than grades are at stake. It sounds like you have done a great deal of research at the schools. My advice would be to apply to several, go visit the campuses and decide which one works best for you. Personally, I am older and I like not being on a rowdy college campus. That isn't important to me. But, I did want to stay local so that determined my choices with nursing schools. Good luck with whatever you choose!

High school junior considering nursing - best Georgia undergrad programs?
North Georgia is, as far as I know, one of the only schools you can even apply to without prereqs. You can get a start there and get your ASN in two years. Then with another year get a BSN. The other schools are going to require 2 years of prereqs then usually 2 more years of nursing classes. I *think* Georgia State takes 3 years but I am not sure. You can find all the info you need about prereqs and program lengths on each of the colleges websites. As a reminder there is usually a year lag time between application deadlines and actually starting nursing school so you need to get those apps in early and stay on top of deadlines! Also, even with an awesome GPA nursing school is very competetive. If I could give you any advice, it would be to get some training (think CNA) and start working as an aid in a hospital as soon as possible. Even if it is very part time. I wish someone had told me this before. I would love to have experience going into my program and when looking for jobs or internships that could make a huge difference. I am starting North Georgia this Fall but also trying to figure out a way to get a healthcare job with no certification or experience. If money is a huge issue, think about taking prereqs at a community college. I can't speak to the quality of the education at any school, they are all difficult as this is just a hard program anywhere. But you can look up pass rates for the NCLEX-RN exam for each school. Most are about the same, but a few are exceptionally high or low. This can give you an idea of the quality of education you will receive.
