I always notify of head bumps, temp over 99.5 vomiting diarrhea, nosebleed(first one), prn's given, anything bleeding, more than a tiny amt. all 2nd visits for SA HA. The head bump thing is a hassle because you could be on the phone all day instead of taking care of kids. I could have 10 minor bumps in one day and some parents even get upset you called.(surely they must be really hurt or why are you calling me you idiot!) I preface it by saying It's the district rule that I call you because of any head bump etc..then write a note home too. I don't remember ever getting called on my kids in elementary, maybe 2 x's surely they visited the nurse more than 2x in a 14 yrs worth of school! ha ha
  2. Tell your principal! I also tell the teacher this cannot keep happening! Parent involvement should help if they talk to the principal. That will get them moving. In the end document your attempts.

At the beginning of the year, I mail out a flyer stating my background and the set up of the clinic. I let them know all of our school systems rules upfront. New young teachers don't always realize what you can and cannot do. I discourage visits for mild complaints during lunch hour because of multiple diabetic visits. Of course they can come for anything obvious. I've had to talk with the lunch room ladies because the kids would say I have a headache and they would go ahead and send them automaticaly without discussing with teacher. I would end up with 8 kids at once. If the same kids keep coming to see you, they either need to be diagnosed with a problem or you need to talk with teacher and mom. Sometimes the TLC you give them makes them want to return but it's like crying wolf. They need to come when they really feel ill. I know we're there for boo boos and for being a mommy sometimes, but I can get hairy when there too many kids at once and your dealing with asthma, diabetes etc... Teachers need to help you out in this regard, you just have to educate them. If Jonny c/o a headache or stomach ache did they try bathroom did he eat, etc..Is he distractable? I'm rambling! sorry hope this helps
  4. Try to ask a day person if they would come in an hour early in exchange for another hour somewhere for them. It worked for me two different years. Both had older children so they could do it. They'd have to pick up your same assignment etc.. but most people, if you are flexible with them would do it. I say "where there's a will there's a way" good luck, those x-mas day mornings are prescious and you can't get them back
  5. Hi, I saw the word Scranton and it peaked my attention. I'm from Scranton. What is your question?
  6. SSSOOOOOOO TRUUUUUUUUUEEEE!!!!!
  7. To me that is exactly what is not nursing. I admire you for actually surviving that assignment but next time you should band together against administration and refuse assignments. You've heard that expression "give them an inch and they'll take a mile"
  8. yikes! please check before giving anyone 10mg's of ativan. I've given tons and 2mg's was always the max at one time, granted you can give it q 2hr but 10 at once is alot.
  9. Oh my gosh, 17.35 hr for a new grad? That just floors me! I guess I've been a nurse for too long. At a hosp in Atlanta, I left making 33.00 hr. Granted, that's with experience but nurses work too hard for that pay!!! Am I just out of touch? Also, don't believe the x-ray tech. People brag when they feel inferior. Kind of feel sorry for her.
