  1. Believe me when I say this, I have full respect for nurses. It is hard work. I dont call myself a nurse and neither does my school. The training is different and doesnt come close to a nurse. I just dont think that nurses should start a thread like this and make it seem like we are useless. Correct me if Im wrong, but that is the impression I am getting. I can see having a problem with CMAs calling themselves nurses, thats wrong and your only lying to yourself. I think everyone should appreciate each other even if the other person is higher or lower than you. We are here to do one thing and thats to give proper medical care to our patients, not say "your just a medical assistant and Im a nurse, Im better than you." No one is better than anyone.

  3. Im a Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist. I would just like to say that I dont think I am a Nurse nor will I introduce myself as one. I am very proud of being an RMA. The nurses in my department that I work for now are very grateful that I am helping them any way I can. I am NOT looking to take there job or there title. The nurses I work for now are very secure and confident with themselves and dont complain about anything. If there is something that they would like to teach me, then I am more than willing to learn. We learn from each other. There were times that I knew something and they didnt. I would inform them of new things and they appreciated it. Some nurses shouldnt think that they are all high and mighty because they have a higher title. I have worked with some really incompetent nurses in the past. You got good ones and you got bad ones. Hey, if my doctor wants to call me his nurse, then flatter me. Everyones knows what their titles are. also as long as I maintain a professional behavior and do the right thing, Im NOT giving REAL nurses a bad name. I consider myself educated. I worked for what I got. Whenever a patient asks me what my title is, I tell them that I am a medical assistant. Its not like I just walked off the street and started to work there. I worked for my certification and I get the respect for it. Even the doctors I work for dont look down at me. I am there to help everyone. :)

  5. I was at the meeting last wednesday and I wasnt please with what Mr. (cant mention his name)...he said that there is no waiting list BUT!, if your GPA for your pre-req is low, then you will have to keep reaplying for the program every semester until you get accepted. Isnt that still waiting? There was a woman there that claimed that she has 3.5GPA and has been reapplying for the nursing program since 2001!!!!! Its still waiting. I have decided that I am just going to go for my bachelors in science and stay as a Medical Assistant. I can still make a good paycheck and have a great life.
  6. Im a preclinical student at BMCC as well and to tell you the truth, I am so nervous about this GPA thing. I have a 3.15 and expect to see it go up a little after this semester is over. Still, I feel that I cant concentrate on my work because my mind is more on my GPA and I wonder if I will ever be accepted into the nursing program at all. I heard there is a wait list for everyone to get in and most girls wait and wait and wait till they are accepted in, especially if you have a low GPA. I could be wrong. There will be a meeting with Jose Serria and the preclinical students coming up on wednesday 2-4. Here is the link : http://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/ Its on your bottom right. Lets all attend and get everything straightened out. Maybe he will put our nerves at ease.
  7. http://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/ Its on the right side. It just says who is going to speak, what time and what room. See you there!
  8. From what I know, if you maintain a 2.5 gpa on the pre-requisites, you could still be considered for the nursing program. I dont like all this anxiety at all. Its frustrating and its making me all upset. There will be a meeting with Jose Serria on this wednesday I believe. He wants all pre/and clinical nurses to attend if you have the time. I will be there. I want to know if Im wasting my time or not.
  9. Hey Im a nursing student as well at BMCC. But unlike most of you girls I think I might change my major. All Im hearing is that you MUST have a 3.77 GPA and I dont have that. So far I have a 3.15. I have professor Lang and he is driving me crazy. He just gave us an exam and I fail. Most of his questions where all in different terms and practically the whole class screwed up. I would like to hear what you girls have to say. Did you ever have any doubts like me? Maybe Im just going through a phase, I dont know. All I know is that I am getting nervous and ppl tell me that there is a "waiting list". Whats up with that? I pay my tuition just to be put on a list? Thanks for ur advice in advance.
  10. Hello, I am new here. I am currently going to BMCC. This is my 3rd semester in the preclinical nursing. I am starting to get really discouraged. I am being told by several people and instructors that in order to get into the clinical program, I have to maintain a 3.77 GPA. I only have a 3.15 I am really nervous and feel that I wont make it. In all honesty, I cant see myself doing anything else other than nursing. Can you please tell me how your experience was as a nursing student? How or what did you do to get through the course? I guess what I need is a little encouragement. Thanks everyone. Danielle
